I don't want him to be dead, but the show creators say he is dead. They could have easily said

"You'll have to watch to find out....who knows the mysteries....oooooh"

But no, they said straight up, he dead.

He is dead in the show at the point where that series finishes.

If he's revived in the next series then he is technically dead at the end of this series and the start of the next. So nobody is lying if asked if he's dead.
