If the purpose of trade week is to improve your list and we have bought in a solid full back, young mid fielder, the best young ruck going around and an athletic tall defender for loss of one good not great ruckman and a 30year old midfielder then Sam Edmond is a dick. Obviously does not understand football because we smashed trade week.

I give us an A.

It is irrelevant what Sam Edmund or any other trade commentator thinks at this time.

We Saints supporters have a bit more invested in this than an indifferent observer. We were intimately aware of the limitations of our list and we are now absolutely thrilled to see those weaknesses turned to strengths (maybe not immediately but given time and experience).

Yeah, next year still won't be very good but at least we now have proper backmen. admittedly they are young, but still better then what we had this year.

next year at a minimum we will lose, Lenny :(, Fisher, Jones,

To highlight how poor Sam Edmund is, here is an excellent post from the main board. Thanks to Chaisa this shows how a list review should be done:

Rating the clubs:

Adelaide: Useful acquisition in James Podsiadly, who will allow Walker to ease back into AFL following his ACL, and received a good pick for Vince, allowing them to potentially draft a good player. Betts also gives them a non-dire crumbing forward. Not a lot to fault, but how good they go depends on how well they use #23, and they could've picked up an extra midfielder to help with depth. Grade: B

Brisbane: Were on the back foot from the beginning with 5 players requesting trades. Luckily, they completed every trade and managed to get a couple of players out of it. The true nature of how well they did however won't be revealed for some time, as all the players that had a sook were still emerging. Grade: D+

Carlton: Very good. Effectively traded Betts for Thomas and Hampson for Docherty, and picked up Everitt on the cheap. Still have a couple of needs they didn't fill, though. It also remains to be seen how fit Thomas is. Grade: B+

Collingwood: Did well to pick up White cheaply, and picked up some highly promising players in Karnezis and Adams. Got a good price for Shaw and Thomas, and also have two Top 10 in the draft. Made some brave calls to offload aging players or players who didn't fit into the culture, and it remains to be seen how well they do. Collingwood typically do well, and they gunned it again. Grade: A-

Essendon: If fit, Chapman is a big in. Did lose Crameri cheaper than what they would've liked though, and also lost Gumbleton for not a lot. Edwards has his fans but he's still somewhat unproven. Grade: C+

Fremantle: Their intentions are clear. Gained Sylvia and Gumbleton for effectively nothing, although they lost Michie for effectively nothing too. We shall see how well these deals turn out, but it could be the trade period that wins Freo a comp. Grade: B

Geelong: Took some bold punts by delisting veterans in Chapman, Hunt and Podsiadly. Also off-loaded back-up ruck Trent West. Will it work? Time will tell, but it should stop them turning into St Kilda or something like that once their other older players decline/retire. Grade: B-

Gold Coast: Didn't do anything. Grade: N/A

Greater Western Sydney: They came into the trade period looking to bolster their needs, and they passed the test. Not only do Shaw, Hunt and Mumford fill needs, they also give them a lot of experience. Lamb has a lot of potential, and they now have the top two picks in the draft again. Lost some promising kids, but how many of them would have played? Grade: A-

Hawthorn: Given Franklin was always going to leave, they did well. McEvoy is a big in, filling a need immediately, and in general you don't go changing a winning formula willy-nilly. Grade: B

Melbourne: Took some punts, but look like doing well. Effectively traded Sylvia for Vince, which is probably a win for them. Cross gives them experience, and Michie has a lot of fans although he is unproven. Tyson is a risk, but he's highly talented and they still should get a decent mid in the draft. Grade: A-

North Melbourne: Dal Santo is a big in, and it didn't cost them anything. He helps the midfield which lacked some class, and could be the difference between victory and defeat given how close their losses were. Not much else to talk about. Grade: B+

Port Adelaide: Upgraded their midfield slightly, but it came at a cost of a first-rounder. If Polec finds the ability that got him to #5, then it will pay off, though. Grade: B-

Richmond: Meh. Hampson fills a need, but won't fly. Lost McGuane and White for nothing, but they weren't that good anyway. Grade: C+

St Kilda: Received two Top 20 picks and some promising youngsters in Bruce, Longer and Savage for Dal Santo and McEvoy. Looks like they did very well, but it is a bit of a risk. Grade: A-

Sydney: Took a major punt. In signing Franklin he could win them a premiership, but it came at a cost to their fringe players, and they didn't get adequate compensation for them. Grade: B

West Coast: If Ellis can get fit, they would have done well. Otherwise, it was a bit of a meh trading season for them, even if they did pick up Yeo. Grade: B-

Western Bulldogs: Got their man in Crameri and did not need to pay more than what they wanted. Darley has potential, but he's still unproven. Grade: B+

If the Herald Sun had any credibility or respect left, it just went out the window.
Seriously what is the deal with them always against us?
They are not against us per sa, they seed just pro the big clubs as it's good for sales. They are sell outs of the highest order. They dont publish for news, they create for sales. It's not journalism, it's fiction...

Early in the trade period, Terry Wallace was saying, "I rated StKilda's trading badly last year, but now I can see what they were getting at".
Yep Terry , you always were behind the 8Ball, and Pelchan is one step ahead of you.

Only Clubs aiming directly at a flag next year should be trading purely with next year impact in mind.
Saints are clearly aiming to bring it all together slightly further into the future.
Some of the deadheads cant see that.

Its funny to see everyone get excited about players like Karnezis, who, after all is said and done, is limited as a 190cm forward.
