Kerr arrested for assault ....

Curious little thought here; why is it somehow our moral obligation to look after these guys? They get paid extremely well, and both the club and AFLPA have programmes in place for life after footy. I'm not suggesting we abandon him, but these guys are better resourced than 99% of the community, and some of them have earned enough to set themselves up for life before retirement.

You're not wrong. I can't argue with any of your post, i totally agree. I'm just biased because he was my favourite player and i've already seen what has happened to Cousins since he's retired, and a few of our other former heroes. Poor old Wayne never really got enough kudus during his career IMO, and now he has these off field dramas tarnishing his legacy even more.

Kerry and Cuz were and still are my favourite players to have played.
But I agree with what Kerr's family and friends are doing in not bailing him out and letting him sit and have a long hard think about where he's headed.
As someone who watched a friend slowly sink into addiction and the impact it had on literally everyone in his life, from family to friends, aquaintances and employers, sometimes all you can do is let them bottom out before they will consider seeking help. We don't know what's going on with Kerr but my point remains that, as long as you keep feeling sorry for someone making bad choices and helping them before they bottom out, they just aren't likely to ever see the light.

Wish him all the best and that we can see a happy ending to all this.

Jail is an awful tool for rehabilitation.

Not to make light of a situation, but..

Conjugal visits? Mmmm. Not that I know of. Y'know, minimum-security prison is no picnic. I have a client in there right now. He says the trick is: kick someone's ass the first day, or become someone's bitch. Then everything will be all right. W-Why do you ask, anyway?

My point is this: are you kidding? I think anyone fighting obvious personal problems and looming imprisonment is entitled to struggle with that reality. Get a grip sir.

What a load of crap. Prison isn't what you see on a bad American movie. The whole 'kick someone' arse...' is just total bullshit. For a start when you are arrested you are just thrown into a mass area of prisoners and depending what holding facility you are in Australia, depends on what you experience. But basically it is extremely unpleasant and frightening with people sharing cells with serious criminals etc.

In Australia, for some unknown reason, people are thrown into lock-ups and they aren't categorised straight away. Sure, the extreme cases are kept away in their own cells but we immediately don't classify people arrested into A,B,C and D categories. We wait until the court finds them guilty. Having 100 up to 1000 prisoners of various backgrounds and criminal records in the one area is a recipe for disaster.

Furthermore, recent stats show that up to 75% of prisoners have serious drug problems therefore they get desperate sharing makeshift needles leading to Hepatitis B.

Leaving Daniel Kerr, who I believe has now been granted bail, in prison as an act of 'tough love' is extremely ignorant and only something an uneducated person would do. No one comes out of the western prison system a better person. There is virtually no rehabilitation system and most people come out worse.

Lastly, it can take a while until you are moved after you are sentenced to the right category prison. Therefore, you can still be stuck in a cell with highly dangerous and irrational people.

If Kerr does get sentenced to a prison term then so be it but to leave him in there for five or six nights to 'teach him a lesson' is extremely ignorant and derelict of his supposed loved ones.

I suspect it might be less a case of "tough love", and more a case of "you've ****ed up badly, we warned you repeatedly, you're an adult and we're done with being responsible with you." Plenty of parents give up on their kids (for better or for worse), without knowing more it's impossible to say what's going on here.

I'll leave it to others to speak to this if they want to, other than to say Office Space isn't a bad American movie. It's a hilarious one ;)

(And point well made for those who think he's wrong to be in a bad state about headed to prison.)

I have absolutely no experience with the Australian prison system so am more than happy to accept what you have said as being true. On the basis that it isn't a very nice place to be, would it be fair to say that if by leaving Kerr in prison for a few days, to see what his future could be like for 10 -20 years if he continues down the path he is apparently travelling, and that has the effect of realigning his priorities, then it would have been a good decision on his parents part. If they have left him there to "teach him a lesson", they must believe he is getting to the point of no return. I don't see the problem with what they have done. If a few days stops him from spending half his life in prison, I would take that deal any day.

I know what you're trying to say, but it's not quite true. Hakea is essentially a remand centre and it does have a three-tiered classification system.

Hopefully he's had a bit of a look in the mirror and realised he needs to get his act together and despite how many people tell him he used to be good at kicking a piece of leather around a field, he's not above the law and the general behavioural standards of society. Hopefully, the damage already done is not permanent.

I would agree if Daniel was a young man say 18 -24 yrs old but because he is a 31 yr old father of 2 children .It shouldnt be his fathers responsibility to be teaching him tough love I suspect his parents are stressed with Daniel's out of control behaviour which no doubt has been building for a long time .

Seems his old man was involved in some strange s**t on the weekend too

Meanwhile, Daniel's father, Roger, is involved in a police investigation after he was stabbed in the chest during the weekend.

It has been reported that Roger Kerr was heading home in a taxi from Crown Casino at around 12am Sunday when he was involved in dispute with passengers of another car at traffic lights in Bateman.
