Tottenham Hotspur's 58,000-capacity stadium plans have taken a major step forward after the government approved a compulsory purchase order allowing building work to begin.

More than 95% of the site has been approved and the order will allow the final two of three phases to go ahead.

Spurs hope to be able to open the new stadium, which will be built next to White Hart Lane, in 2017.

It will be easily paid for, you only need to look at Arsenal and their move from Highbury to Emirates

First of you have the naming rights, it is virtually impossible in England to rename an existing stadium, the fans just wont accept it, but a new stadium there is 10 million + a year right there, then you have the increase in matchday revenue Arsenals doubled per match, you have the redevelopment of the previous land, either for other business or residential there is serious money there, and i also beleive the local council are contributing some money towards it

You are comparing chalk and cheese.

Arsenal had Champions league revue, were winning trophies, a huge international following and also sold apartments built on the old Highbury site.

Tottenham doesn't have any of that.

Arsenal had Champions League revenue, but Premier League revenue to day is more than Premier league plus champions league was back then, plus there is such a golf between Tottenham and the team below them (Newcastle) in terms of revenue that they can spend 30 million less per year for several years and still be in the top 6 clubs in England

A huge international following does not pay for a stadium, a huge local following that will put bums on seat game in game out (even when playing stoke) does and that is what Spurs have

they will be building and selling 275 new homes, which in London is a lot of money, about 1/3 of Arsenals total

There is nothing saying that spurs will not qualify for Champions League, they are not the most likely, but it is not impossible for them

And at the end of the day they have a rich owner, so there is nothing forcing them to take a high interest loan from banks, they can take a low interest loan from ENIC or they can just issue more shares and pay for it that way

Typical un-informed posts claiming we can't afford a new stadium. We are currently 14th on the Deloittes football rich list without CL football. Ahead of sides like Roma, Atletico & Inter. The only club in the top 20 on the list with a stadium under 40K so it's a much needed investment that ENIC has been pushing for 4-5 years. Our matchday revenue streams are set for a massive windfall with the 21,000 extra seats and the corporate facilities nearly tripling, commerical revenue from selling the naming rights will most likely be front-loaded payments to help with the funding of the stadium. The club has already begun work/opened a large Sainsbury's on the site as well as a youth learning centre and like Arsenal will sell flats and shops on the site as well to fund the project.

And lets not forget who owns ENIC Bahama's wealthiest resident Joe Lewis. Worth over $4billion

Never mind the expansion into Asia courtesy of AIA.

Spurs may be a joke on here to the unwashed, but despite an underwhelming season of only finishing above Man United last year, there's plenty of work going behind the scenes.

For all his f*ck ups in a football sense with being too hands on in transfers and sacking managers, Daniel Levy can run a business. Consistently top 15 in those rich lists with just 1 CL season and a sub-40,000 seat stadium
