Link to the proposed Referendum, from the Referendum Working Group:
(Edited 6 April 2023)

These are the words that will be put to the Australian people in the upcoming referendum as agreed by the Referendum Working Group (made up of representatives of First Nations communities from around Australia):

"A Proposed Law: to alter the Constitution to recognise the First Peoples of Australia by establishing an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice. Do you approve this proposed alteration?"

As well as that, it will be put to Australians that the constitution be amended to include a new chapter titled "Recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples".

The details would be:

The Prime Minister has committed to the government introducing legislation with this wording to parliament on 30 March 2023 and to establishing a joint parliamentary committee to consider it and receive submissions on the wording, providing ALL members of Parliament with the opportunity to consider and debate the full details of the proposal.

Parliament will then vote on the wording in June in the lead up to a National Referendum.

The ANU has issued a paper responding to common public concerns expressed in relation to the proposed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice here:

Summary details of the key points from this paper may be found in Chief post here:
The Uluru Statement from the Heart:
Not specifically No. In any case it does not form part of the Referendum proposal.

Seeing as things have gotten a bit toxic in here, let's try to return things to a more civil tone.

The following will result in warnings to begin with, and if said behaviour continues will be escalated:
  • referring to another poster as racist without direct provocation.
  • dismissing or deriding another poster's lived experience.
  • personal attacks or one line posts designed solely to insult or deride.

You might notice that the final rule is from the board rules. Thought we should probably remember that this is against the rules in case it's been forgotten.

Let's play nicely from here, people.

"very unlikely" is massively, massively under selling it.

"Nigh on impossible and not supported by the government in any way" is more accurate.
In a metropolitan area, you are quite correct. In the outback, it's a slight possibility, but anyone affected would be compensated. E.g. some people had to leave their homes when the Cultana training area was expanded to the west. Defence related so a different kettle of fish, but a similar principle.

All over bar the shouting is what every credible poll says, so this referendum goes into the NO waste basket like almost every one before it.

But this is still worth a read, even if you’ve already voted or decided…..

Not a similar principle at all with due respect, unless youre going down to base "someone had their land acquired for reasons".

By this logic the castle is the same principle as indigenous land rights.

Additionally, even if that were to occur, it wont be related to the referendum.

In classic coalition fashion Price will be shuffled to the back of the room once the referendum is over and then at the next election she will be internally voted off her senate ticket and replaced by a rich white man.

U wot mate?

She will continue to be the shadow Indigenous Affairs Minister - and then the Minister soon thereafter.

And what an epic upgrade she will be on the current incoherent dud.

So what has she done since then? Joined the IPA, got her Qantas Chairmans Lounge pass and started praising Murdoch.

She is by definition, one of the elites that she says she is against. An absolute hypocrite.
Stepped up when the NO vote was 70% +.

Its slipped a bit. Track her involvement v say Minister Burney.

OR you can run with 'Murdoch', the excuse that you have when you need to deny/deflect ...... reality.

She praised Murdoch during her IPA speech. It’s part of her identity.

Stepped up with nonsense and misinformation, so I’m not surprised that she is a role model for you.

What was the last election decided by hope?

It wasn't the GST cake election, or the recession we had to have election, or the children overboard election, or the weapons of mass destruction election, or the carbon tax election, or the Bill you can't afford to pay election......

Australians love political apathy and they consume negative campaigns like candy.

Once Dutton decided he would not support this it was over. As is the case with all referendums.
The last election was won by hope that Albo/the ALP could do a better job.

Theres a massive gap between the popularity of Dutton and Albanese.

It’s the only gap Dutton is concerned with, and he is still losing ground.

He will be gone soon.
We are at the 500m mark in a 1500m race that is Albo's to lose. Duttons in the race.

We should never forget that Australia is the one and only English-speaking country that enforces compulsory voting. I support it. But I think compulsory voting means that the large portion of people who don't follow politics are prone to parroting political talking points. The binary yes/no question has highlighted that very well.

It seems to be why three-word slogans work. People repeat them in conversation and become free, sometimes unwitting volunteers for the campaign. When you throw the seeds of catchy slogans into the soil of a compulsory voter base, they grow into votes and spread.
