Vic The joke that is the Victorian Liberal Party.

Could we see a total divorce happening between the Liberals and the Nationals before the 2026 Victorian state election? And older people might recall the last time the Liberals and the Nationals had a major bust up was in 1987 over the 'Joh for PM' debacle..and it didn't end well.

Would be interesting to see who'll pick up the 'poisoned chalice' that is leadership of the Liberal Party. One thing for sure: Matthew Guy wouldn't want to put his hand up again after leading the Liberals to two big election losses-and both times to Daniel Andrews.

have they knifed him yet?

talk of another defamation lawsuit doing the rounds adding more insult to pesuttos misery

i think that pssutto ,given a chance without extreme right interference, could make the libs competitive. but the party has no place for small ‘l’’ libs. the nutter extreme right that has a firm grip on the outfit won’t allow it.

Expect to see Federal Opposition Leader Peter Dutton step in to save his Victorian counterpart John Pesutto, because a leadership challenge is the last thing Dutton needs in Victoria, with a slim chance a federal election could be called as late this year. And a divided Victorian Liberal branch is not what Dutton nor his colleagues in Canberra needs right now.

Please, faction over party every time. Dutton will tell Pesutto to stand down because he's a distraction and they'll get a bible thumping moron into leadership. Then, and only then, will they see what a disaster that is and be able to move on.

Up till now, the crazies still think that the moderates like Guy and Pesutto are the ones holding the party back. They need their own election thumping.

Sam Groth world's fastest server is the premier Victoria needs and deserves!

Maybe the crazies think that they'll find somebody who looks normal and has a profile (like Groth) who will champion their crazy ideas, but also not look as crazy as them.

Unfortunately at some point, Groth is going to have to choose between following what the crazies in the party want and being able to actually get elected in a majority of seats.

The crazies think they can sneak their crazy policies into Govt if only they'll find a leader who can appease them and also convince the voters that they won't do this crazy stuff if they get elected.

The state deserves a better opposition than this lot. Swapping an experienced Pesutto for an inexperienced Groth is going to make this worse. How is a political novice supposed to manage the near-impossible position of leading the dysfunctional Victorian Libs?

To be fair, I think Groth knows that he has only just begun his political career. He's also factionally unaligned.
So do you think he has the ability to navigate the minefield of leading the Vic Libs? I'm not sure anybody could at this stage.

An un-governable party trying to convince the voting public they could run a state?

At least they're not campaigning on their interstate LNP's colleagues' ideas of "We need less Government because Government is bad".

I unequivocally think John Pesutto should remain leader, and those briefing against him should immediately stop doing so.

It's funny, I don't recall Pesutto mentioning the behaviour of the media when they were interviewing stair-cases or making assertions about car crashes which made no sense. Didn't stop LNP people at the time jumping on them like they were good questions.

Perhaps the LNP jumping on every stupid Herald Sun story they ran as if they were credible wasn't the smartest idea now that the stupid questions are aimed at them.

So John Pesutto keeps the leadership...for now. Expect rumblings about Pesutto's hold on the Liberal Party leadership to re-emerge after the Victorian Budget.
