Round 17 v Sydney MCG Thursday July 6th 7.20pm

Round 18 v WCE Optus Stadium Sunday July 16th 4.40pm

Round 19 v Hawthorn MCG Saturday July 22nd 1.45pm

Round 20 v Melbourne MCG Sunday July 30th 3.20pm

Round 21 v Bulldogs Marvel Friday August 4th 7.50pm

Round 22 v Saints Marvel Sunday August 13th 3.20pm

Round 23 v North MCG Saturday August 19th 1.45pm

Round 24 v Port Adelaide Oval TBC

So once again we get drawn for 2 Thursday night games coming out of the bye, with one in Brisbane and the other at the MCG. We get a very short turn around between rounds 18 & 19 playing in Perth on the Sunday twilight game then the early Saturday afternoon game, the flip side being that we get WCE & Hawks in those 2 games. This leads into a big 3 week stretch where we play Melbourne(home) Dogs(away) & Saints(away) with a good break between each game. The final game for the H&A season against Port is yet to be locked in, but it looks like we probably get a Saturday night game if either or both sides are in the 8 or trying to get into the 8.

We're gonna need to be well entrenched in the 8 by Round 20 cos we ain't winning either of those 3 matches against Dees, Dogs and Saints.....
Course we can. We pushed dees when we were missing half a team and in the middle of a losing streak. Dogs won by less than a goal and Saints are flakey and already starting to drop off. I'll be very dissapointed if we don't win one of them at the very least.

Why aren't we

Come on guys, even when we have been in our dominant years, the Marvel/Etihad/Docklands games have been a write-off... Dogs and Saints should have us there barring a miracle.

We haven't been anywhere near the Dees since 2020 at the G. This is the more winnable of the three though.

So our breaks between matches in 2023 are:

Richmond

9 days then 6 8 6 10 6 6 6 8 8 7 6 7 12 7 10 6 8 5 9 6 and unknown

3 x 7 day breaks between games in the whole season.

1 x 5 day break v Bulldogs(Marvel)
8 x 6 v Pies, Swans(Gather), Suns(Marvel), Eagles(MCG) Cats, Freo(Perth) Hawks, North(MCG)
3 x 7
4 x 8
2 x 9
2 x 10
1 x 12

Now let's look at Collingwood and Geelong....

Roneowood:

8 6 6 10 9 5 7 7 7 7 6 9 13 6 6 8 7 6 8 6 7

1 x 5 v Crows
7 x 6 v Tigers, Lions, Eagles, Suns, Dogs, Blues, Cats
6 x 7
3 x 8
2 x 9
1 x 10
1 x 13

Now Cheatlong:

6 10 8 6 6 8 6 6 8 7 7 12 7 8 9 6 7 7 7 6 8

0 x 5 I thought every team was supposed to have one of these?
7 x 6 v Blues, Eagles(KP) Swans(KP) Crows(KP) Tigers Bombers(KP) Pies
6 x 7
5 x 8
1 x 9
1 x 10
1 x 12

Hmmmm.

- We get 3 times only the preferred 7 day break, Cats and Faxwood get 6 each. We get just 2 of our 8 x 6 day breaks with a home ground advantage. Cats get 4.

- Cats get 18 matches off 6, 7 or 8 day breaks.

- Pies get 16 matches off 6, 7 or 8 day breaks.

- Richmond get just 15 matches off 6, 7 or 8 day breaks, and over half of those are off 6 day breaks. Geelong only 1/3rd of their 6-8 day break matches off the minimum 6.

- Cats no 5 day break.

Anyone else get the feeling Cats still telling the AFL who they want to play and when? And also telling the AFL who they want Richmond to play and when? You look at our draw we have 3 matches off the same break as the match before, 2 x 6 and 1 x 8. Pies get 5 x the same break in succession, a 2 x 6 and 3 x 7.

Cheatlong get 5 breaks the same as the week prior. 2 x 6 and 3 x 7.

Very similar things occurred in our draw last year, very little regularity all short and long breaks. So it is starting to look like it is not random.

Perhaps and I’m thinking the improvement in umpiring may well have come about during BG interviews And maybe he mentioned how close we came to legal challenge with decisions that confounded The rules and manipulated the result in the process
eg SCG deliberate violation not awarded , ARC decision

Probably loose both
I would say so.

Bulldogs in other circumstances are beatable, but I don't think a 5 day break then at Marvel bodes well for us.

Melbourne are deserved faves, they're a top 2-3 side, and we are not. Would need our best to get up, and we don't bring that every week.

Man I’m so pissed off that the Sydney game is on a Thursday night. I was going to go with my niece, so was really hoping for a Saturday/Sunday afternoon. I’ll have to look at one of the later games. :(
