Unofficial Preview Round 5 Changes vs. Sydney Swans

Simpson was training with the WAFL boys and Crozier was with the main group on Tuesday so unless there is an injury Simpson won't play in Sydney .
I hope I'm wrong because he gave great effort in the Bombers game .
Mayne was running according to Salam but he would have to be cherry ripe for the match committee to name him is the team .
Taberner should keep his place in the team as he takes a defender away from Pav .

Coulda, perhaps the main group were only having a light run on Tuesday with the aim of having a full solid session on Thursday.
Simpson training with the WAFL I would suggest is more a catch up for him seeing he only played half a game on Sunday. Highly likely Josh will part of the main big drill on Thursday.
Honestly, It would seem bizarre of Ross to drop Joshy for this Sydney game.

Big Footy Sydney is very negative about their chances of wining against us even if Tippett plays.
A number of them are thinking they should go with youth and drop some senior players for non performance .
O'keefe and Pike amongst others to me if that happened we would slaughter them because Tippett would have to ruck for almost the whole game and he is coming back from injury . Longmure would never be that dumb.

If Joshy can show composure like at the weekend, he will play and play well due to Sydney's like of close combat (also due to smaller ground size)

Maybe won't play, short turn around to the anzac game, Ross will ensure he's ready for that. Can't risk another key forward to go down for a lengthened period.

Tabs to play the second tall, and pav will give him every chance to get his own. At least to being the ball to the ground and ballas will play closer to goal now that Walters is out.

Fyfe straight in.

Neale / fyfe / mundy / crowls to the middle

Decent weather forecasted, heavy 2 way running and we should get the win. As long as our defence holds up

Also - a blessing to have fyfe rested, he has the slight twinge in the pre season so to rest that will only be beneficial.

Watch out afl, you've poked the bear, fyfe is wanting blood

In all the times we have watched training very rarely does a player who is training with the WAFL boys get a League game .
Injury to a player or failure to fully recover after a game close to travel time IE Elvis \Tanner will there be a reprieve .

Was the Tuesday session our main one for the week or more a loosener , run the soreness out session ?

Yeh but

no but

oh forget about it.

If Mayne stays out... Crozier out for Fyfe.

If Mayne is in... Crozier out for Mayne, Suban out for Fyfe.

Suban was very good on Sunday.

Who's more important, Mayne or Suban?

Crozier is the easy out. Simpson deserves to stay in as the sub, and needs to stay in. Suban improved from previous weeks but wasn't a standout. If Mayne comes back in, he plays higher and lets Tabs take the marking responsibility... as we can't continue with Mayne as our 2nd key forward in the longer term, and Mayne plays the De Boer pressure forward role.

Where does De Boer go with Fyfe back in and Mundy presumably fit?

Nah.

Mayne has enough tricks to do the defensive stuff and provide a leading, marking target.

De Boer will do the key defensive forward stuff that he does so well and so few people on here truly understand.

How about this...

Option 1: Forward line with Mayne as the CHF (having him FF just doesn't work), Pav and Zac exchanging roaming and deep roles... and De Boer in the pressure forward spot, or

Option 2: Forward line with Tabs, Zac and Pav all able to provide a genuine deep marking threat, and/or in a roaming role. and Mayne in the pressure forward spot.

What do we get with option 1? De Boer's ability and nous around midfield clearances, and better handballing. An extra mid sized forward able to provide great pressure.

What do we get with option 2? A genuine key forward that can provide a foil for Pav, and the opportunity for (hopefully) one of our future key forwards to learn how it's done from Pav. Mayne provides all of the defensive capability that De Boer has, and is a comfortably better field kick... and kick for goal. Would need to learn a bit more about clearance work if he's to take on more of the high forward role that De Boer can.

If you're talking about key defensive forward stuff being the argument for De Boer as the pressure forward instead of Mayne... then which bit can Mayne not do, with a bit of tuition? Because there's no doubt that Mayne is comfortably more dangerous on the attacking side.

The GF provided ample evidence that Pav and Mayne aren't enough to get it done as the key forwards. Zac may have a good game occasionally playing deep in the forward line. But he could probably do a much better job if he weren't one of the two key focal points, being matched up against their second best tall defender?

Robbing Peter to pay Paul by expecting Mayne to do De Boers job as a speciality. His positioning as a pure defensive forward would negate his attacking ability.

Pretty happy to have a Pav, Tabs, Mayne, Balla, De Boer, Simpson plus resting ruckman set-up.

Yes, that's 7, but the days of the 6 day forward set up for the whole game are long gone. Pav, Balla, De Boer and Simpson all get time rotating in the midfield so it's an evolving beast depending upon the game.

Simpson trained with the WAFL boys on Tues because he only played 40% of Sundays game .The main session is when the players are separated
Tuesday was not a main session.

Chris Mayne has been off the pace this season. He appears to be carrying an ankle from the start of the season.
He has had one week off and we are heading into a tough contest with Sydney .
We have a stated aim of scoring 100 points + each game and have achieved it 3 times, the most recent being against Essendon in arguably one of our better games this year, with Mayne not playing.

We played two youngsters in the last game who had a positive impact on our forward line.
That is a strong argument to give Chopper another week to recover and also have a mid to long term benefit for the team .
