(Hypothetically) If the Swans collapsed financially, or if they were kicked out of the AFL for some reason (cue 19th man and flooding jokes) would/could you pick another team to follow? If so who, and why? Do you think you'd develop the same passion for them as you have for the Swannies?

If I were living in Sydney at the time I suppose I'd follow the Western Sydney venture, if only because I could get to the games. If there was no W.Syd team, or if I wasn't living here, I might consider following St. Kilda or the Dogs. Always had a soft spot of them given how unsuccessful they've been over the years.

Carlton and Collingwood might also be worth considering given how much the traditional fan hate them (although we seem to be copping alot of hate in recent years as well). That'd be cool.

To be honest though I doubt I could ever muster the same kind of enthusiasm I have for the Swans. I've formed such a close attachment to them as a kid, it's hard to imagine that you could forge a similar link in adulthood - especially given the superficiality of 'choosing' a new team.

I feel the same way but if the Swans no longer existed then i would try and support the Western Sydney team. Im not sure i could ever support them as much as i support the Swans but i would try.

I couldn't support or have any enthusiasm of the same level that i have for the Swans, if the worse scenario happened like above i would continue to watch the AFL as a neutral supporter this would apply to the Western Sydney team to.

I always think over this when I see old 'Roy fans. I really couldn't ever hold the same passion that I have for the Swans for a team I picked for no reason.

West Coast or Geelong would be my next (the family would be over the moon), and that's scary

NSW is an area the AFL would never neglect, and considering it took us 25 years to get where we are, they won't be in a hurry to take us down.

It'll never happen. Still an interesting hypothetical though.

Wow... never really thought about it, but it would definitely be the Western Sydney AFL team, but given that a team doesn't exist at the moment, I would definitely barrack for Brisbane Lions.

I would have to stick with one of the interstate teams I think. Not sure who though. Adelaide, Eagles or Lions maybe.

st kilda for me...considering they hav dempster schneider and ross + our development coach or somethin

dont think i could do a western sydney team i kinda dont want another sydney team i like just the one find it more special

but (im gonna get bashed for this)

Would have 2 be The Pies

HATE St Kilda (NEVER U SNIDES THOUGH)

AND YOU SHOULD SOPH.
Couldn't follow another team,it was hard enough when we went north in 82,but thanks to great people like Willesee,Quade and the best Chairman in the AFL,Richard Colless we retained a lot of the past.

It would break my heart but I love the game too much not to stay interested in it. I reckon I would follow the tiges , a great club with lots of history, passionate supporters and a great song and I'd actually be able to watch my team live more than 6-7 times a season. Also the fact they are 30 years overdue for a premiership would mean that when they won one it would (almost) be similar to Sydneys 72 year drought breaker.

It's hard to say if I could ever love another team as much as I do the swans, having followed them through the dark days of the early 90s to the glory years now was a fantastic journey that I don't think any other team could possibly replicate.

I'm pretty much with you Malfan, I couldn't imagine following any other team but I love the game so much, I couldn't keep away.
It would be the Tiggy Tiges for me too so that would mean the frustration and heart attack levels would be just as they are now.....

I don't know if I could follow another side. My uncle is a crazed Geelong supporter, so maybe the Cats, but I also have always liked Carlton, so maybe the Blues. But I doubt I would care about them as much as the Swans :(

This is kind of how I feel about Rugby League now - used to be a mad North Sydney supporter and now they're gone, I can't really get interested in another team, but still follow the code neutrally.....not as fun though!

If the Swans folded, I think I'd go with the Western Bulldogs - probably seems like a weird choice, but I kind of like them for some reason.....or maybe even Carlton.

Well I think the Swans have folded about 3 times since I've been following them and they're still here, so my answer is I'll stick with the Bloods. :D

But as a hypothetical, I'd always follow the local team if one existed. And if one didn't? Well, we'd be talking years of slowly not hating everything about football. But until then, maybe I'd just support whoever was playing Collingwood. :p

Oh man, just had a blast from the past and saw a picture of two Fitzroy fans at their last game .. wouldn't want anyone to ever go through that ..

Well before Benny got drafted I was a Carlton supporter (you probably don't know that) I was only 5 years old, it's early enough to change :p.

I'd either go back to the Blues, or I could go for Hawthorn or Richmond cause I live closer to those two than any other team.

I hope - touch wood - that never happens though.

I think I would hate Western Sydney the most - apart from Collingwood - because it would be awful seeing them play in the AFL and not seeing the Swans :(

Im a fourth generation South supporter, my old man (played for South as did grandad), he flew down from Queensland with Mopsy Rantall the year they 'relocated' to be a head trainer, only to watch his beloved team 'relocate'! He has refused to watch a Swans game ever since, the move ripped his heart out, and also the heart from our once proud suburb, South Melbourne! You guys from Sydney, dont understand the pain, and for your sakes, I hope you never will! Anyway, Go Bloods!

I have three words for you: North Sydney Bears. :(

That said Aussie Rules is the best game in the world, so no regrets.

That's so sad :(

He went fishing grand final day 2005, anyway, the point to my rant, when you support a team with fierce passion, and the club meens so much to you, I think it would be very hard to jump ship! A lot of South supporters were even bitter at Sydney supporters in the beginning, it was like watching another man kiss your missus! This proberley shines through in some of my posts a bit, and I appologise for that (Bollox, RUNVS etc prob a few more) but in the end, us supporters all share one thing in common, the love for the red and the white!..:thumbsu:
