Is he past it? Yesterday he contributed directly to at least three opposition goals through poor decision making (a 1m handball to a stationary, tagged teammate?!?!) conceded a couple more due to lagging behind an opponent on the lead and kicked OOBOTF. His decision making is terrible, he is slow and he no longer seems able to "play tall". How many credits does he have left? I wouldn't be sad to see him in the reserves any week now.

Considering that he played a couple of blinders within the past month I think it's a tad premature to suggest he's past it. Obviously he's going to slow down a bit at this age but he'd want to put in quite a few more poor performances before I write him off.

BTW- Unless dementia is starting to onset already I don't think decision making ability is really something that starts to decline when a player hits 30.

Give him the rest of the year he deserves that, then retirement

He doesn't have the time to make decisions that he used to have because he's older and slower. It's pretty simple. Plus his eyesight is failing.

Rubbish. He stays until someone younger puts up their hand and demonstrates they can consistently play KP back better.

Leo does need to understand that he has become VERY predicable to opposition they know he is going to try to run all the time... especially bad for someone so left sided!!!

Just get rid of it quickly occasionally!!! leo:mad:

He's going to have his ups and downs, but this is the first horrible game he's had in a couple of games, so he gets a reprieve.

Wait till his poor option taking really hurts us in a game that is really close, and we lose because of it, then you will see that he is past it.

Yesterday it didn't matter, but it will later in the season, and it will really hurt.

Can't believe some of the options he takes.

Spot on, who takes his position ?

Until we have a feasible alternative he keeps his spot, he has been poor over the last few weeks though

he's been touched up by most of the forwards going around, hates being beaten tries hard but keeps on holding and giving away free kicks, roosey must realize that now leo has to be the third or fourth choice in the backline, problem is when your capitan its very hard to see him get beat time and time again. he needs to become the third man up defender who takes the weakest opponent

i cant see leo ever playing in the ressies

though i could imagine him playing in the forward line
just think about it...
what attributes does Leo have that would dissallow him to play in the forward line??

he's a great mark but can't kick for goals and dosen't know the forward set up and spacing I think he is o'kay if we play him on the right players who he can zone off on but not on the kosi's or q lynch or any other power forwards leave that to ted and lrt

He's a great kick for goal, actually. Started out as a forward from what I can remember.

LEO BARRY SHOULD PLAY IN THE FORWARD LINE!:)

the guy is costing us goals! he doesn't seem to have the same run as he used to, same time he has made a number of blunders.

put leo in the forward line, and take playfair out

i reckon he'll do well presenting for goal instead of chasing his man (as hall and mickey'o will take the top two defenders)

Please don't put him in the forward line again. As frustrating as he is in defense sometimes, can't any of you remember how frustrating he was as a forward? I can't remember someone almost taking so many spectacular marks. The guy would fly for about 5 huge marks a game and would be lucky to actually come down with one every 6 months. This was the whole reason he was moved to the backline in the first place.

Anyway.... Give him a few more chances before we write him off.

I would say keep him out of defence

people are doing the exact same thing to leo as they are for nick davis
they both had a great finals campaign in 2005 and it could be argued that without neither player we wouldntve won that grand final
but we just about all have to admit it...
they are both past their prime and can't do those things anymore
...put leo in the forward line till the end of the season (for playfair of course) and if he's no good then put young irishman Brendan Murphy in next year
it would be sad to see him go but its for the best :(

I must admit I'm a little dissapointed to hear so many people on here writing him off. I know he hasn't been able to get back to his 2005 form and at his age he never will, but he's hardly finished. Instead of moving him forward why not play him on the 4th/5th best forward (physical matchups permitting) instead of having him play on the 2nd/3rd best forward? If, as many of you are suggesting, there is another player ready to step up and take his place then surely this is a reasonable option? I still think Leo gives us a lot of value as a rebounding defender (The game against Geelong this year he was the only player that was able to give us some drive from the backline in Kennellys absence). Maybe I'm just in denial but I reckon he is still a very good defender on his day and until we have an adequate replacement OR it becomes quite obvious that he's completely out of his depth back there we should stick with him.
