What does everybody think of Shaun Grigg? He's been one of Carlton's best in the pre-season, and has scored pretty well. Though admittedly, a lot of Carlton's better midfield haven't been playing, he's still pretty cheap at $265,300.

he is a lock in my team. He is great value and will play every week and will rotate thru the midfield. I expect him to average 70 + which is great value for his price.

Any port fans know if P Burgoyne signed up just till the end of 09 ?

Its all about the radical new dt gameplan ( aka "Senior Burger Factor")

Simply pick any extablished players who are still young and good enough but in the last yr of a contract with a young list. When u see them languishing mid season with 10 games to get a contract ..pick em up.

I wouldnt be too sold on grigg. He hasnt really shown much potential to score big points. IIRC he has never scored over 90.

What do people think of Daniel Jackson, is priced at $318,300 average of 71. Has had 5 seasons in the system and has shown potential to score big numbers if he gets a regular game. He averaged 87 in the last 6 games of 08.

Can someone tell me if he has only played games sporadically for the last 5 years due to injuries or is it just that he couldnt crack into Richmonds best team.

If its because he couldnt crack the best 22 do you think he can establish himself this year and hold his spot. He has had two good scores in preseason (91,102) and from memory i read something about Wallace saying he will play an important role this year.

Thoughts?

grigg is priced at 260 k if he averages 70 i will be very happy.

Cameron Bruce anyone?

I'm looking to pick a more unique mid for the top end, and think he could be my man. He's had one of his best pre-seasons without any injury interuptions. Melbourne have a good defence being built, so he wont be required to do any jobs down there like he was in patches last year. He'll play midfield and rest forward. He picks up a stack of loose marks+kicks on the wings.

What does everyone think he will produce this year?

How certain is his role? I've been looking at having him as my second mid but I've just got question marks over whether or not he can continue to score so well.

at richmond this year who will get the tag

in previous years foley has got the tag but now richmonds midfield has gotten stronger will opposition teams take another path

im just wondering if nathan foley could be an option this year as my 6th back...or should i go kerr, masten or lewis?

Deledio will get the tag IMO, but I also believe that it will differ depending on form/who they play etc.

Already mentioned him in the rucks thread, but I think he is worth discussion.

What do people think of Tom Bellchambers? Could not possibly be a long term option, but has the potential to generate some serious cash. Unfortunately he's around 175ish I think, so too expensie for a bench cash cow IMO, but could possibly be used to generate cash for the first few rounds and let you upgrade another cheapie elsewhere.

Laycock will apparantely miss 6-8 weeks. If Hille is out with suspension, Bellchambers could rise significantly quite early, but you would think he will play for as long as Laycock is out at very least although I'm not so sure he will score that when/if Hille returns.

Anyway, love to hear others thoughts.

It would have to take a remarkable break out season for a Bench rookie to be considered a cash cow. Kruz last year had one of the better rookie ruck seasons (DT wise) and it was not worth the trade to solidify that gain at any point in the season (unless you were desperate for cash)

Your better off looking at Angus Graham.Pattison is Richmond 2nd ruck option who is likely to miss the 1st 6-7 weeks of the season and Graham is next in line so he is likely to play some early games so he might be worth considering

Haha, fair enough, he's really not cheap enough for anything useful. Already have Graham.

Another one then. What about Travis Johnstone from Brisbane?

Priced at 370k in the mids, there are many around his price (Gibbs, Judd, Knights, Boak etc.) that people are talking about. He averaged 83.4 last year, and a 42 and a 35 were the week before he missed a game or two (possibly injured? Not sure) and another 47 was from a Sydney game.

Two years ago he averaged 92.1 so he has the potential. Also, with Brisbane being the lowest scoring side last year and new coach Voss, their scores should go up across the board right? He scored a 96 in round 1 NAB cup.

Anyway, I admit I'm certainly no expert so would love to hear thoughts from people who know more.

I'm looking at Cam Bruce for my second mid spot too.

His role is fairly certain this year I'd say. In the past he's been used as a Mr Fix it for us because we didnt have players to do certain jobs down back or tagging. Now we have a good young backline that we want to get as many games into as possible. He wont be playing there doing tight checking jobs. We now have Dunn and Bartram back from injury and set to take up the tagging jobs, so he wont be required to do them anymore either. His role will be as a roaming midfielder. I'd expect 30 touches a week and a bevy of loose marks. He'll likely rest forward too, as that's our weakness now and he can take a grab and kick a bag if required (he was a forward in his earlier years, and kicked big bags of 8 sometimes). I think after getting players back from injury and having more young talent playing now, his role is set.
Am I right though? Or am I delusional because I go for Melbourne :p

Well I am now seriously considering starting off with both A/B, simply because it's going to save 1-2 trades later. Yes I could save 30-50k if I wait, but how long do you wait? What if my mid range players haven't performed as expected. Lets face it, these 2 are the cream of the crop, together with 1 as captain, theres 320-350 points per week after week after week. Ok yes it will weaken another 1 or 2 positions, but at least I can consentrate on that instead wondering where the hell am I going to get the $ from for Jimmy.

Probably not sensible or logical, but blah, lets go for it early.

shyte never thought of Presti, thanks :D

I keep swaying from Fisher>Goddard>Fisher>Goddard, so I dont know. Fisher/Chadwick/Shaw/250ishspeckie/250ishspeckie/Raines/Grimes....nope no Presti or whatsisname.

My forwards are um well er Delido/Didak/Cloke?/followed by um well...

In light of the fact that Medhurst has barely had a pre-season who do you think is the best pick of the following to replace him...

R. Murphy $395,100
B. Johnson $386,000
R. O'Keefe $381,400
Q. Lynch $375,300
D. Petrie $374,300
J. Brennan $373,700
C. Sylvia $367,000

Rich's price means he needs 28 to hold his value initially. So even a 50 average will see upto 100k put on, if he can get to a 65k average we are laughing.

This may sound like a stupid question but how exactly are people making value/score predictions? Im not exactly sure how its worked out that someone like Rich's value equates to a score of 28?

Think Murphy will def be the best consitant scorer from that group

Murphy hasn't had a pre-season either, don't touch him at the moment. I would probaly go either Sylvia or Brennan (not sure about his injury though). Johnson has also had a big pre season but his age is a factor.

O'Keefe is probably the safest option

I am not sure if this has been asked yet, I didnt really want to search through 14 pages, but what are our opionions of Patrick Dangerfield? He has big wraps and is said to be a star of the future, will he get game time this year do you think? enough game time to put on your bench as a cash cow?
