3 votes.....Mick Malthouse.

A first time ever.

Fair assessment from Crawf too on the basis that Mick said in his press conference that were were in this game and justifying Leigh Brown's status in our team.

we were in the game up until the 5 minutes according to mick..

sorry mick, it really is time for you to move on... i cant see us winng 10 of our next 14 - the sad thing is your list should be more of capable of this... maybe we have the cattle just not the right prod...

Can I get a summary of what he said? Especially regardling Leigh Brown.

something along the lines of;
he can be used forward and back - he is versitile..
and that he is a terrific (i think he used theses words) competitor...
basically justifying his place in the club.. also worth mentioning that he was questioned about bryan and said that bryan hasnt been consistent enough to warrant a game..

That's what Mick said in terms of Brown.

In regards to Bryan, Mick should be well advised that in the last 3 weeks, Leigh Brown has been given 3,3 and 2 for the worst on ground votes by MMM.

Mick can't question his consistency though..:D

Is he for real?

I think before those comments he still had a few supporter's behind him..

Now i'm pretty sure everyone is on the bucks brigade and just thinks MM is delusional..

Crawf is definately correct.

right now we're the worst team in the comp. and there's obvious personnel reasons, but there's some blindingly obvious patterns in our performances even when we had a healthier list -

1. 1st quarters
Always giving starts until we find a rebalancing of the set-up in the 2nd quarter

2. Conversion
Constantly awful, blame the position we score from or whatever. But we have too many set shots (lowest way to score) and not enough running goals moving through the forward 50m (highest % of scoring)

3. Can't beat zones
All teams will zone against us and we have no way through. All teams drop off into a zone, be it in the midfield or usually from 30m - 70m out, and we do not penetrate it with handball and short kicks

4. Field kicking
Desperately we need Lockyer through the midfield for his kicking, as a forward he is wasted. In such good form, we need him in the midfield.

5. Backline ball handling
It is terrible, not enough one touch clean ball down there, partly to do with Shaw not being able to get consistent game time, partly Marty Clarke not having a good start this year, and mostly not having another player good enough to play small defender with clean hands - I really think this should be Dale Thomas.

Do you mean he said we were still in it up until the last 5 minutes of the game? Or what?

Crawf, as stupid as he is, has football nous and is a good footy brain. Fair assessment I'd say.

Yes, the last 5 minutes..

Thats just a joke.

Agree with the highlighted, particularly about the zones.

We have never been able to combat the zone and Crawf has said it on numerous occassions that Collingwood are the most vulnerable side against the zone.

The backline ball handling is an issue too IMO. We aren't clean enough. Only Shaw and Clarke seem capable of it but both are horribly out of form and lack confidence. Also Harry O is pretty clean and composed too. We can't expect our key position defenders to do it so we need to address this area. However, I would not play Thomas as a small backline player. We would be wasting him down there. We need to get him into the midfield more often because as you say he is clean and in that area he can be very damaging.

Yeah just on Clarke does any player in the comp get caught more with the footy?
Its becoming a real issue IMO.

For the good of Collingwood I hope Malthouse knows he should step aside immediately.

Yes, the last 5 minutes..

Oh gawd, I thought you guys were joking...

That seriously upsets me. He is acting like what was dished up today was passable and that we were competitive/in the game till the final 5 minutes.

In reality that was the worst performance I have seen from a Collingwood team in a few years. Even last week against the Saints I thought early on we showed some endeavour and I still thought we were competitive for awhile, even if the scoreboard didn't show it.

That first quarter today was so disheartening, apart from one purple patch in the 3rd, I didn't think we showed anything for the whole match. We were probably flattered by Carlton not blowing us out of the water.

Nothing about us looked dangerous, our entries into the 50 were laughable, absolutely no conviction or structure.

Yeah like I said, it disappoints me he is so deluded and tries to feign off reality by acting like we were still in that match.

I'm sick of Mick ****ing up our team by continuosly selecting that absolute hack Brown just so he can try and justify recruiting him in the first place. He is the worst player in the AFL who gets a regular game and I'm 100% serious.

Mick has lost it!! Leigh Brown would struggle in a suburban league like the SFL and im also 100% serious!

Leigh Brown is very versatile.

He is no good forward, back or in the ruck - but he can be equally bad at each of them.

Geez he looks like a good bloke though, and obviously tries his guts out, but we need to be ruthless!

Crawford was looking for a security guard to escort him out after reading out Malthouse's name.

Was funny stuff.

What I just can't believe in regards to Malthouse is that he learned absolutely nothing from the way that Carlton beat us twice last year. I honestly believe we would have lost today even with our best 22, because the gameplan was never going to allow us to get over the line.

Once again the Blues had miles of space in their forward line, we constantly failed to get numbers back to help our defenders and this has been an issue in so many matches. It didn't even matter that Fev was held well by Presti because there was so much space there for any Carlton player who happened to be in or around the forward 50.

Once again, we went slowly down the wings while the Carlton players quickly got numbers back, giving us absolutely no space to work with going forward. So many bloody half chances and shots from long distance or tough angles, so few scoring shots of any substance or conviction. Not even our best forwards would have been able to make anything of the indirect crap that was fed to them.

To top it all off, the fact that we had so many players on the wings meant that upon the turnover Carlton exploited our turgid game style by moving inboard where we had no numbers and the ball could be moved quickly through. Ratten, perhaps more than any other coach has capitalised on our predictability and lack of adaptability.

On the issue of why Leigh Brown is playing, well this is just something I just can't explain. He offers absolutely nothing - jack of all trades, master of none. To be blunt and to the point, he is absolute shit.

Sure is versatile he can play Shit in the Backline Shit in the Forward line and Shit in the Ruck. MM has to go bring on Burnsy or Bucks

Get use to him being in the team though, I expect him to play for at least the next few weeks the way mick was speaking about him. Though from what North supporters say he plays one good game then half a dozen bad games, his first week was alright then he has been terrible but next week he should have a blinder!

I reckon Mick was only covering for him, you can't just hang him out to dry.

I would be very, very surprised to see him play again next week.
