Uumm WTF???

Some perplexing selections there

Sidebottom is the worst of the lot. He really deserves to stay in especially with Pendles out. I don't see why he needs the rest considering he has only played 4 or 5 games.

Wood I understand but disagree with. L Brown vs Sandilands LOL.

Clarke doesn't deserve to be dropped (or is it that wedding in Ireland??). His form hasn't been as bad as made out IMO. He's a **** load better option than Goldy who hasn't shown anything. Although I really hope he steps up to the occasion. It's been pretty sad watching him lately.

Dawes is interesting but I don't see the need.

Can't argue with the inclusions of N Brown and Beams.

This would make more sense:

INS Beams, Brown OUT Wood/L Brown, Pendles
Nice post, agree 100%.

Dawes has always looked to have a big engine to me , particularly as he plays most of his VFL games as a roaming Centre half forward.

Somebody with a better memory might be able to confirm this but i'm pretty sure he was top 3 in our time trials during the preseason. I think they were 3kms. That suggests he has a pretty good engine, up there with the best of the big guys. Definitely a strenth of his.

If we are going to play a tall team against anybody, it may as well be Freo. They had good talls and shit mids.

I think you will find that the trend is changing [if you bothered watching Freo play this season]. We actually beat Geelong in clearances and overall in the midfield [amongst other teams that includes Sydney as well] and kept Selwwod and Ablett very quiet. Our forwardline is disfunctional however and playing Pav in the middle looks like "robbing Peter to pay Paul" [well, most of us predicted that anyway]. With McPharlin out of sorts, unless Sandilands spends a big chunk of the game up forward, I just can't see where most of our goals will come from [Ballantyne plays his first game so I don't expect him to set the world on fire]

Gotta feeling it will be a very good game.

Why do you use square parentheses?

Anyway, you say Fremantle 'beat Geelong in clearances'; that would stem from Sandiland's ruck work no doubt? It doesn't really matter if you beat them or not; Collingwood were overwhelmed in clearances yet we still beat Sydney. You see where I'm going with this?

Dunno, less "shift" I suppose. Looks better though ;)

No argument there. I didn't say we will win, or that a team with the better midfield automaticaly wins, hell, I didn't even say that our midfield is better than yours [and it isn't]. I just responded to what the other bloke said about our midfield. It has been very shit in the past but it's getting better and better. It is not shit anymore.

surely the final team should look something like this:

B: Harry O’Brien, Simon Prestigiacomo, Shannon Cox
HB: Nick Maxwell, Nathan Brown, Heath Shaw

Foll: Josh Fraser, Dane Swan, Shane O’Bree
C: Tarkyn Lockyer, Alan Didak, Leon Davis

HF: Paul Medhurst, Travis Cloke, Dale Thomas
F: Brad Dick, John Anthony, Chris Dawes

Int: Cameron Wood, Sharrod Wellingham, Alan Toovey, Dayne Beams

Emg: Steele Sidebottom, Leigh Brown, Tyson Goldsack,

In: Nathan Brown, Dayne Beams, Chris Dawes, Paul Medhurst
Out: Scott Pendlebury (knee), Martin Clarke, Steele Sidebottom, Leigh Brown

I really like that side but I honestly think Leigh Brown is in our best 22 atm. As is Marty when he's back. I'd drop Cox for Marty and drop Wood / Dawes for Leighroy, based on current 2009 form. I hope Wood eventually keeps Brown out but atm he isn't doing enough. Only other change would be Penders in for Beams. It just goes to show our depth atm is not that bad!!!!

Is there a chance Dawes will play in the ruck? One of the most dominant ruckman in the game, and we go in with one speciallist ruckman..... Malthouse the strange man, makes another strange decision..... I'll admit Wood was very poor against Sydney, but you would think two speciallist ruckman against Fremantle would be a must.... I hope Leigh Brown doesn't pinch hit in the ruck!

Maybe not, but hes not going to get dropped on form atm. Not with Wood and Bryan not dominating.

Two chances, Buckleys and None.

I am as confused as everyone else, but i have the feeling they are picking a team and not worrying about it 'matching' up against Freo.

Yeah, we might not be getting taps, but i think that they are getting Freo to beat us in teh clearances. i still reckon that he plays better by himself.

Should be a good game.

I think you will find a last minute withdraw with John Anthony out in comes medhurst.
If this doesn't happen then my suspicions on Medhurst being injured last week at that vfl game where it was said that he tweaked his ankle again, means he'll be out for at least three more weeks.
Obviously the pies are hoping he'll be ok that's why he keeps being named as an emergency.

Yep, I reckon Anthony out and Medhurst in.

dawes should play if we wanna get anywhere with him we have to give him ago. freo is nothing great so i think its time we should play dawes for the rest of the season get some afl into him see how he goes. jack will be fine he will play medhurst dosent deserve a spot in the team anyways till he shows his back in form in the vfl if brad dick has another game like last week i think he will be out medhurst will be in and leighhhhh brown should go out in a late change for wood where gunner get smashed in the ruck otherwise

Dawes may be cover for Anthony if he doesn't come up or may release L. Brown to CHB if N. Brown doesn't come up. Thought we lacked one big body in the Fwd line last week.

Good to see Beams back up, steele won't suffer for going back down and freshening up.

Thought Cox was ordinary against Swans and lucky to hold his slot, Surprised Goldy found his way back into the ones. However, MM may feel we need a bit of height to get the right match ups.

Clarke is a surprise but in truth he has been a little ordinary for weeks now. Again, Goldy gives us height so match ups probably an issue too.

Think DT is lucky to be holding Medhurst out of a spot! Medders was in sensational form until injured and DT has been very average for most of the year really.

Surprised with the team and how many talls we have.

But at the same time happy to see Dawesy get a crack.

Wrapt Beamsy is back in the side he is way too good for VFL level.. would have liked to see him and Steele running around together though

Dont understand how Medders can be an emergency?????? If he is fit then IMO is an automatic inclusion he is an All-Australian and a matchwinner so i wouldnt be surprised to see a late change.

We are going to get smashed in the ruck anyways regardless of whether we have one or two ruckman.

Wood looks like he doesnt care at least Leroy has a crack and shows he wants to be out there.
