You only watch a handful of teams yet can make an informed opinion on the best in the league???

You are a twit champ, there are probably 5 better players at city alone. Quinn, Bruno, Ward, Poyas... their full back (best defender in the league)

Ash Roberts, Rafferty, Mercoulia, Mark Shalders, Hobley, Wineberg, Barnes, all have Taisyan's measure. The guy walks round like he's god's gift to City, he's a joker.

Time to get real Koach.

:thumbsd:

Well i was asked my opinion and i gave it whats the problem???
Thats your opinion and i respect that:thumbsu:

Tasiyan wouldn't be in the top 10 at Dingley reserves.

Koach, you are not far off:

This is his 5th year with us , has won the last 2 B&f,s and is on his way to a 3rd as a 6'2 centreman, won our goalkicking in 2005/06, wouldnt be a better ball distributor by hand or foot in the comp.

Whos best is very much an opinion, but Mark is highly regarded at City

Very much a team man

OK I've got one for you Koach, as the doyan of local footy, and the Thinking Man's follower, how about giving us your Mike Sheahan's SFL Top 50. Should keep you busy for a while and might stimulate some footy talk?

Seeing as though the Koach backed down from the challenge, I will step up and have a crack at it.

FWIW, this is 1000x harder than doing one for the AFL as you only get to see each team a few times a year.

Feel free to nominate players that should be in, or should be higher/lower.

NOTE: Some players like Heath Barnes and Shaun Cotter are lower down due to their year being interrupted by injury.

Hopefully this gets some more footy talk going....

Good list Superfreak, I think it is definetly there about... Hard when you only get to see players a couple of times a year.

Nice work Superfreak, now you need to do a Div 1 reserves......and while your at it, Div 2 seniors.

My Division 1 reserves would be as follows:

1.Jonathan Sherren---------> Daylight---------> 301.Nicholas Salvatore

I would absolutely ream number 45.

And he knows it!

;)

Good list all the same, can't begin to imagine how long it took you.

Some interesting placements I must say, but obviously my view is skewed as you only see blokes playing twice a year.

FWIW Beasey was good first time we played em, terrible the second time. Same with Vlahov.

Barry Hope make it in? He has Williamson's measure.

Hope it does generate some footy talk!

I may have a crack in the days to come.

Ha! Poor old Nico

If I was to do a Div. 1 Reserves, Andrew Butterfield (Cheltenham) would be No. 1 and No. 2 would be a long, long way behind. If he doesn't win the League B&F by the length of the Flemington straight the voting needs to be seriously looked at. He would have around 11 BOG's already.

Waata Wells at 14 would be the biggest error in your list. The bloke never has an opponent even though they get beat most weeks. Would have thought the other 36 are well and truly ahead of him, and then some.

Does Butters elect to play in the ressies?

Not sure on that one. As a past coach of the club, I couldn't speak higher of the man himself.

Waata would walk into any side in the comp and be a gun. Top 5 foot skills, top 2 decision maker. At his best he was the best player in the comp at Clayton. Played a year at Chelt in Under 18's and won the B&F. Wish we could have kept him.

So you're judging him on his past?

So you're judging him on his past?

Nope judging on what I have seen of him this year. If he hadn't missed the start of the year with injury he would be higher. You take him and Vassallo out of their side and I doubt Springy would have won a game. No offence to the other blokes, but the impact they have on the side and how opposing teams play against them is huge.

To say there is Daylight between him and anyone else is a bit stiff on the rest of the players in Div 1 Reserves.

Any player that is that much better than the rest of the comp should surely be playing seniors?

There is daylight Cousin....just stating the facts. Name another player that gets tagged every week in the two's yet still has nearly 40 touches and two goals???

Its not a poor reflection on the rest of the players in the comp, its just that he is better and has a bigger impact than them. No doubt there are players that float through from week to week (that have been dropped etc..) that may be better but for someone that is there every week, he is miles ahead of the rest.

You could say there is daylight between him and the rest with regards to his consistency, but personally i believe that when it comes to being the best in the comp, there are others that are much closer e.g. Matty Harris (St Kilda City) etc.

All depends on what your criteria is for the best, as surely skill and impact is weighted heavily, then consistency factored in.

I think the reason he gets 40 touches a week, is because the whole team looks for him every single time, and every time you win the ball, you go backwards to him before you go laterally/forward.

Not to mention the numerous times they chip kick it short to him instead of going long.

Both times he played against us, from playing against him, I wouldn't say there is daylight.

Is the standard of the SFL this bad??

How many games of AFL footy have you played superstar?

My guess it rhymes with 'hero' :)

Wardy to me looks like he is going at about 60%, if he was to lift that, he would be near the top of the list. You don't play 1 AFL game let alone over 100 if you aren't any good.

Disagree. He gets the ball because he gets to the right positions and calls for it louder than anyone else.

IIRC, the man has played SANFL footy as well as a lot of EFL Div 1, so he has Matty Harris covered.

He 'played' AFL. Doesn't anymore. That doesn't automatically make him a superstar 'NOW'.

Being from a neighbouring team to St Pauls in a different comp, i've noticed constant 100+ point victories and Travis Ridgeway kicking bags of 10 weekly. As good as he is he shouldn't be getting 10 shots at goal a week.

Surely this makes for a pretty boring season unless St Pauls and St Kilda play eachother. Now that teams such as Balwyn and Noble Park have moved on to bigger and better things, is there even a point of playing a full season when everybody knows who the grand finalists will be every year?

Its surprising that St Kilda City feel the need to splash so much money around considering that lack of competition most weeks.

Haha get out of it BZ.

Ridgy has improved out of sight with his marking both overhead and on the lead, adds more to just the roving dimension of his game.

Superfreak, i will agree to disagree on the ressies div 1 best players, he may be the best, but i still argue not by daylight!

Judging on current, not past, as you said in your other list, so the fact he has played SANFL, EFL div 1 etc means nothing, it's all on this year.

I look forward to playing against him in the finals, and absolutely shutting him down, if the job presents itself.
