Only following the scores , St.Pauls conceded 15 goals in a row with that list they had on the park ? Bentleigh must be pheonominal if that is the case but surprising
Anyone see this game. How did Bentleigh recruits go and what about VFL guys from St Paul’s ?

Shit weather at cranny in 2 games that could’ve gone either way. Hard to tell with how much wind/rain there was.

Young umpire in the 2s was as horrific as I’ve seen in 40 years of footy.

Maybe you should have a crack!! When there are no umpires you will still be complaining!! Pull your head in!!

Went to watch the replay on Sportscast and turned it off after the first 5mins after nearly getting motion sickness.

Any danger of the old man behind the camera just concentrating on keeping the camera steady and in focus rather on commenting on the play?

Forgot to record the whole 3rd quarter

Caught the 2nd half of Chelt V Port and got the full St Pauls V Bentleigh game.

I was impressed by Port. Credit where credit is due, they looked like a very young side and must have had a bunch of U19s playing, they stuck it out and nearly pinched it late. Looks like they're beginning to have a cultural change too, hopefully for them it's 1 step back, 2 step forwards by backing in the kids. Chelt is not playing great footy at the moment but they'll justkeep ticking away the wins. ANZAC day looms to be massive V Bentleigh.

Bentleigh made St Pauls look silly last night. St Pauls had some massive additions with Milne, Purcell in from VFL and Kreymborg back, but they did not even look like scoring. Bentleigh had the wind in the 1st and took advantage, but it was the 2nd quarter where kicking against a strong breeze Bentleigh piled on 6 goals and put the game to bed. Their new recruits slot straight in. For St Pauls to kick their first goal halfway through the 3rd quarter was extraordinary. Early alarm bells for them but they should still take care of Cranbourne next week.

What was crowd like at Bentleigh v St.Pauls? Lighting up to scratch?

Might clarify “young” being the younger of the 2 umpires, being 30 old

Pretty good crowd. The shocking weather all day in the lead up would have deterred a few away but the game itself saw the best weather of the day. Many people did not stay for the entire game (including me, left half way through 4th) as the game was over at half time. Lighting was fine, scoreboard is a little bright though. I hope they keep it as a night game in the future, creates a great atmosphere at the ground (barring the weather). 1 night game a year won't hurt anybody.

Who would wanna be an umpire to have players and spectators yelling, abusing and threatening you all for 140 to 150 dollars for the day?
Better than what I used to get paid. Good coin for 2 hours work! Having a basic knowledge of the rules and being open to human communication reduces all of the above.

For 2 hours of work. Some, if not all, of the SFNL field umpires are officiating 2 to 3 games back-to-back on Saturday, which indicates the low number of umpires and the reason behind this arrangement. You have to be able to cope with abuse and profanity being directed at you no matter what I guess it's called having a thick skin 🙃

Tips for Round 2

Dingley to beat Cheltenham by 28pts
Cranbourne to beat St Pauls by 7pts
Bentleigh to beat Hampton Park by 31pts
Narre Warren to beat Port Melb Colts by 60+
Springvale to beat Murrumbeena by 40pts

Still pretty early but it looks likely Murrumbeena, Port Melb Colts and Hampton Park are the weaker sides.

Colts score doesn't say that
How did all the ressies go ?

I am suspicious of the Colts but I will back my tip.

I love the ressies as well but I wont be tipping them, it is really hard to gauge them even in finals. Funny results happen there.

Disappointed in hp as a few players i know there convinced me theyd be ultra competitive against narre and im taking mayo off that, anyways always tough to gauge round 1.
was quite a weird round, bentleigh look the goods

Went and had a look at St Pauls and Cranny. Christ there are some fortunate defenders in D2. Reckon Marotta and Holty would have kicked 200 between them easily as Cranbourne ran away with an easy flag.
Cranbourne would've been a joke in D2! The only team that would be close would be Highett and they would still have their pants around their ankles by 1/2 time!

fair whiff on the Beena score and they had multiple outs

Bit of a reality check for the Colts after a surprisingly good R1.

Today's Colts side seemed to be mainly made up of recent ex-U19s. There's some talent there - Nos.9 and 20 were quick with the ball and had good footy sense - but not much height and no weight. Narre had some big bodied forwards (8, 14) whom none of the Colts backmen could contest against body on body. They just took strong marks, went back and converted. Against this, the Colts battled hard and had some good passages of play, even if they were a bit indirect.

The Colts also had a few issues (in the first half, anyway - I had to go soon after half time) mainly to do with inexperience. They were too indirect, going down the line every time - I don't think they went through the centre once in the first qtr. They fumbled a lot and didn't man up well a lot of the time. As always, discipline was an issue.

Depth is going to be a real problem for the Colts, too. Their 2s got done 202-0.

I can't really say how I think Narre will go until I see a few other Div 1 matches. They handled the Colts easily enough but looked a bit complacent at times.

SFNL should defo try to attract more OEFNL / MPFNL sides across, imo. Good crowd numbers, good atmosphere makes for a good day at the footy.

Narre vs Dingley Anzac Day. We will get a good indication. Cranny the surprise so far. Port Colts can match for periods of time but as pointed out, depth will hurt them. No. 5 for Colts is very good, if he had kicked straight it would have put more pressure on Narre.
