So far everyone i have spoken to regarding Scott have said how impressive his attitude is. Takes no crap from anyone, has very high motivation to succeed and is also very good at developing players individually through one on one sessions etc. Very happy with how he speaks and his desire to improve the list and each individual throught the coming years!

Very excited to have Brad as our coach and cant wait to see the changes he will make for this football club. Uncompromised as a player and hopefully makes the tough calls as a coach aswell!

Re: Brad Scotts Attitude

Well i hope he tells the boys that there will be no easy way out and to get them all fired up for 2010.Not sure what is going to stay or leave but there will be a few changes.

Re: Brad Scotts Attitude

Just took the time to watch the Pies press conference and today's announcement. I'm impressed, seems like a guy that could be compassionate and inspire in one address and fully tear shreds off you the next. The best part though is I just have a good feeling from the bloke, like he's really going to achieve something or die trying.

On a side note geez Hardwick must be wondering what he has to do to get a gig. Surely his number will come up at Richmond.

Re: Brad Scotts Attitude

I liked Laidley's attitude. But in the end it wasn't enough.

Laidley really wasn't that far off being a really good coach, but not sure if he could let go of the things which just held him back.

Just hope that Scott doesn't have similar deficiencies.

Re: Brad Scotts Attitude

He was a player who had to fight for every inch he gained across the journey of his playing career, and he understands that players can improve. I love that he sees a potentially better player in most of our current crop of individuals. This is a guy who walked the talk!

He'll be aiming to get each player to their optimum and then, if they're still not up to it, even the player would probably thank him for the improvements gained, as well as the opportunities.

I like it :thumbsu:

The bloke communicates very well also, and we've been crying out for a decent communicator and face of the club. Has presence also!

I wish him well!

Not quite understanding this whole 'Scott lets you know where you stand, takes no bullshit - yay!' attitude being shown by some posters on this board.

Only a matter of months ago, people were lamenting Laidley's 'from another era' communicative style, complaining that he wasn't properly dealing with Generation Yers who need (it was alleged) more TLC and less blunt feedback.

More to the point fairdinkum, you now need to do some serious work on your avatar. :D

A subtle yet significant difference between the two on face value is their respective abilities to communicate the message, be it stern or a butter-up or whatever, and Scott to me stands head and shoulders above Laids on that front.

He's also only 33 himself! I don't think he's gonna waltz in eyeballing everyone on the list, saying "You don't like it? That's 'cos you're shithouse. Now eff off you loser!!!!!"

I think he'll give everyone who's retained on the list beyond the cull cut off date, a real opportunity. He's made it clear that he'll back the players, and that he has empathy with those feeling forgotten in the VFL lacking opportunities.

The guy can talk, and can do so with authority. Good get!

I knew somebody would say something along these lines, to the point where I considered adding a preemptive rebuttal to my original post.

Unless one has been in the room at a time when Scott has given one of his players feedback, ditto Laidley, I'm not sure how one can compare the two in this regard.

We all know that Laidley struggled to eloquently articulate himself when in front of the camera, but this does not necessarily mean that he struggled to make his point clear and succinct when behind closed doors with one of his charges.

Crap. Good point.

Sure fairdinkum, we're left to surmise based on supposition and the evidence put before us in public, on tv and via other media forms.

I've been in a halftime talk of JYD's during a preseason match at Vic Park a few years ago and his speech was no different to what we saw alot towards the end of his tenure in public, albeit without nerves.

I was never impressed with that aspect of him. I am however impressed with Scott's abilities in this area, from what I've seen from him more recently as an assistant and as a player in the past.

I agree.

The club who picks up JYD as their assistant will benefit greatly. Great strategist. Just too misunderstood. Message got stale/lost. I think JYD can be credited of proving that regardless of resources, doubts from the outside, an underated list, that back to back finals campaigns of 07 & 08 are his crowning glory... outcoaching the Clarkson in the 07 semi-final would be right up there. Players failed JYD moreso than he failed the club.

In saying that, I anticipate a outsider like Brad Scott can straighten players out and make them play for him and the loyal membership who deserve better than the ring-a-ring a rosey footy (North are currently playing) I can't be bothered watching.

I guess my point is that it is frustrating listening to people make the same, repetitive comments about Laidley when the truth of the matter is that at least 99% of us one this board have NFI what Laidley was like as a 1-on-1 communicator with his players -- and it is that 1-on-1 communication which really matters in a player's development.

Places like this forum are to group-think what the warm swamp is to the mosquito. Enough people repeat the 'Laidley was a poor communicator' line and before you know it, it becomes established fact. Laidley would have to be the best tactician on the planet to get an 'average list' to a prelim finals if his communication skills are as bad as what many seem to believe. In fact, I often ponder how exactly Laidley got his tactics through to the players if he is such a poor communicator...

This is nothing against you personally, as I respect you as much as the next poster on this board. But when I hear people then go on to say how much better they reckon Scott is in terms of things like 'communication', it compounds the frustration I occasionally have with this board.

I get where you're coming from.

I've said here many times, based on conversations with players over the years, that almost to a man they absolutely loved Laidley the coach.

I wouldn't underestimate the playing group's drive and willingness to work hard, with some ability behind the G & D, in getting us to finals campaigns and the prelim either.

Anyway, we shall all see eh? I for one am looking forward to the ride!

All aboard the BS express! (I look forward to the new avatar fairdinkum!)

Brad Scott is gonna be the best coach in the AFL, he's the greatest.

I think, and hope, you guys have made a great appointment.

Any Brisbane follower who has heard the Scott boys speak at B&F nights etc will tell you that they are extremely passionate and articulate guys, and you will all know how hard Brad was as a player (given he played his last few years unable to raise one arm to shoulder level).

As much as I dislike Malthouse, you have to be good to impress him and Brad obviously has.

Best of luck with Brad, boys, but I am sure he will deliver for you.

But Twinkletoes is the next poster...

I hope so too. FWIW I think Brad really suits our club, it's certainly exciting and a breath of fresh air having someone new in the place. Love or hate Laidley there is no doubt he worked his arse off here, 7 years is a long time though without substantial success and the message can get tired.

Yes, unlike the team he coached, Dean did some of his best work going one-on-one in the corridor. :thumbsu:
