I'm against this rule, purely because players are more likely to post if their team is doing well.

And in some instances, not alot of players may be able to post a certain week (HSC, TEE, uni exams etc)

If a team can't get 4 posting players there's something seriously wrong.
I don't necessarily agree with the proposal but would love to see the sim give a slight advantage to players who post over those who don't when it comes to a 50/50 contest. But it would require quite a few modifications to the sim or even a new one to be developed.

As for players gravitating from less active teams to more active teams I'm not so sure it would happen. Less active teams would present an opportunity for players to play in better positions so should attract players for that reason alone rather than playing in back pocket for a team with depth.

Just paraphrasing this bit ... this is exactly what I would be devastated to ever see happen. You're talking about real players to have an effect on the game based on real actions. There are countless MMOGs out there which satisfy this interest. There is also the Dreamteam footy option. Qooty isn't supposed to be used this way. Its meant to be a level playing field, random numbers deciding the results. Posting advantage removes the randomness, defeats the whole purpose.

By all means develop something stand-alone to do this. But I think if I ever saw Qooty being used this way I'd throw in the towel on it. I guess the same thing happened when the atom was first split. Never suspected they'd use it for that.

FWIW, I have also been approached by some folks on the side about wishing they could be involved in the Fitzroy FFL, just so they can back to the basics of the original intention of the game and no running the gauntlet of, and I quote, "14yo pc nerds" that pretty much take the entire experience out of context.

Fitzroy FFL is currently only for Fitzroy bot teams, run by Fitzroy fans. But who knows what could happen next year. Maybe a mature-age version of the Sweet FA?

My mistake, thought you were using that exaggeration technique I agree with the above, I would hate to change anything in the actual sim (although have you heard ideas for the RFFL sim changes, works pretty well in that comp). My main concern for this is the Mod Squad and the Roys. I have a great respect for yourself and Fred but worry whether the teams are actually worth having if they eventuate into a similar story to the Mod Squad this season and the Roys in their final year. I really hope that this does not happen and want the teams to have the chance to prove themselves but at the same time I have to consider the potential that it goes pear shaped.

Which is only natural given its the off season. Have to say though I'd rather someone who is rubbish in the sim but a great team member/poster at the Bombers than someone who is a gun in the sim but never around. Think you'd struggle to find another captain around who'd rather a sim gun than a league posting gun in their team.

This is what i was trying to point out in my not so well received article!

Fred, this game has become about posting. Yes people post crap, half of the time it's me, but the activity that is created is what builds interest. No offence, but if it wasn't for the activity levels I wouldn't be hanging around for long to see how a random sim treats me. The banter, the activity, the posting, it makes the competition.

And yes, people post crap, spam, post for the sake of posting, take it too seriously, whatever...You need a variety of posters, some unique posters, and some who just keep bloody activity up. You need some to get in arguments, it creates more activity. And that is what the game has become. No offence, but sometimes in the match threads against the Mod Squad is is a whole team bantering against Fred or noone. Yes, you had a good finals series, but without activity,the interest dies down.

Is this rule the answer? I don't know. But I understand the logic behind it.

This comp was running successfully when you were still in Primary school, along with most of the so-called good posters.
I'll guarantee that in a few years time when they have much more responsibility and more demands on their time they'll post a lot less and a fresh lot of teens will be complaining about your lot's posting.
Posting isn't the be-all and end-all of the comp - the game is.

then inevitably the competition will limp along like country football where diminishing populations lead to merging towns to keep competitions alive. The fantasy forums are a stark contrast to the other forums on BF where you can just leave them be. Me, I'm quite content to be a 'simtard' if I turn out to be that way, but I'm in a minority. If the posters here are anything like those that were on TFFSL, and they seem to be, then posters that are 'simtards' will leave. The comp will keep going though, coz there's those around who love the game and can live with being 'okay' in the sim.

I understand your feelings on it and being the developer of the game I think your opinion holds far more weight than anyone elses.

The randomness of the game is great. Everyone has as much chance as others to get a kick in similar positions.

But I do like the idea of real players having an effect on the game based on real actions. Not necessarily for a player who posts 20 times in a match thread being better than a player who posts once or twice though. It's more about giving an active player a slight advantage over an inactive player.

All active players are even. All inactive players are even. But in my opinion active >>>> inactive.
Even if the advantage is just 55:45 or even 52:48 rather than 50:50.

This is only my opinions though. As I said, I understand and respect your desire to remain true to your purpose for the game

P.S. What is "Dreamteam footy"? And MMOGs?

Yep I dont mind the idea of selectors taking activity into account when selecting teams, that's a fair idea, its kindah like turning up for training.

Umm dreamteam to me is the concept of picking actual players for a team, watching actual matches, and seeing whether you picked players that performed better than the players chosen by someone else. EG the official AFL Dreamteam competition and similar.

MMOGs : Massively Multiplayer Online Games , eg World Of Warcraft, Counterstrike, and my favourite, Subspace Continuum (2-dimensional spaceship wars ftw!!!)
