Might as well have his own thread, after a week of reports suggesting he was ours when he neglected to sign up for the national draft, now Caro reporting he has agreed to a two-year deal and commenced training with us today.

Played 20 games last year for the Lions, more than TJ managed I believe, and will replace the hole left by Wheatley's retirement nicely.

Brisbane-bred it seems, from the same neck of the woods as Brad Miller in Mt. Gravatt, 80 games under his belt and made his debut against us back in 2004. Did his ACL in 2006, but has had a productive couple of years since so no real injury worries that I can see.

I was flicking through radio stations yesterday & caught two guys talking about how Thorp failed Melbourne's medical exam spectacularly & it will a miracle if is drafted by another club. Though I had to leave my car before finding out which radio station it was, this would mean all the Joel MacDaddy rumors would make sense (if it's true).

good solid pick up by the dees for basically nothing...he is at a good age in the mid 20's, can fill the gap left by wheatly and whelan, and can shut down players as well as accumulate possesions himself, disposal is good as well.

His not a superstar but a good solid player in my opinion which will help in such a young side.

Mentioned this in the Ball thread, apologies.

Dare say Thorpe must have really trained the house down with us :)rolleyes:) to be over looked for what many of you class as a "dud" or a bit player.

He will be a very good player for us, just you wait Master Bate

I don't class Macdonald as a dud, I'm probably happy to get him, but I don't think it will make a huge difference. I'll have to see him play for us a few times to make any real judgement. I certainly don't watch other teams players as closely as ours.

Happy with this - we need as many cog players as we do with potential stars.

Yeah, that's a good point. Our emerging stars will need support around them if we are to be a force. As Fremantle has demonstrated, it isn't much good having Pavlich if the rest of the side isn't offering anything substantial.

Further, JMac should give us a bit of experience in the backline, which can only be beneficial given how our defence is predominantly made up of talented young players.

What date is the PSD held ??????

I'll be glad when all this draft stuff is over.....
its at the start of December! why will you be glad? what will we all talk about then?!

J.mac will go straight into my SC team cheap cheap cheap!

ps its BigSexc's birthday today! we should start a thread so people can wish me a happy birthday! playa

Happy birthday BS, do they let you out for the day ???????? It must get lonely in that padded cell.......:thumbsu:;)

My guess would be about 11.

On topic, am happy to get J Mac II for no other reason is it could help release Grimes into the midfield.

This I would not mind, and he also fills a need. Yes we have a few back pocket types but none that have shown they can handle it long term yet. Time will tell.

coz he wanted to go, it was a bit like how ablett is doing it (luke ablett not gary kids) and ball, just lest publicised

Anyone know why the Lions gave him the boot?

My read on it was Voss wanted more carry, speed and dash coming out from defence.

Raines and Xavier are dubious pickups but they do provide dash.

Joel is more likely to try to spot up someone then try to take on the line.

He'll be a good solid 22 role player.

Indeed and not just a cog player but a cog player with experience in an area where we are deficient and only just about to embark on - run from defence.

I think basically MacDonald asked to be traded after playing all games during the season then being dropped for finals. No trade was done so Voss 'drew a line in the sand' and just dropped him.

Anyway he could be either a part player who takes some loads from our younger runners for 3 or 4 years, or if he steps up could definately be a good footballer capable of playing in pretty much any side in the comp.
