Although most of you do not agree with my opinions most of the time i am asking each of you to remove the patch from one eye, take your melbourne hat off at look at reality.
Nobody else on this board loves this club more than i do, with 20 consecutive years membership i have seen alot of Melbourne footy and many great players playing for this club, suffered many heartbreaks and many great moments to remember. But these are the concerns i have with this list.
Apart from the fact that we are 152 years old and still have no main training venue & home base worries the **** out of me.
My main concerns are that the players who have been on our list 4+ years have not improved at all, players like Jones, Jamar, Bell, bartram, Dunn, PJ, Miller, and to a certain extent Meesen & Newton, THEY HAVE NOT IMPROVED! Are we the only club going around that cannot get the best out of players? Did we make a mistake appointing Bailey? Do our assistant coaches have enough knowledge and experience to take this list further and get the best out of players? Why we havent been able to lure a 'big fish' to our club since Peter Moore?
Then there is the Jack Watts/Natinui issue, if you guy's are telling me that you haven't once thought that we made a blunder with Watt's your only kidding yourselves, This kid(natinui) is a superstar, and we arn't exactly overflowing with quality ruckman are we? And then CC comes out and says that Watts is basically in cotton wool for 4 years!! HOW EMBARASSING!! No wonder why other supporters are laughing at us!! Maybe this kid is just not up to it at all. (i pray that i'm wrong).
What i'm saying is to honest and upfront with yourselves, it's all good to live in hope, but i've been there before and i tell you what people, untill we get a state of the art training venue, untill we get decent coache's untill we get 40,000+ members and untill we get decent footballers down at that club, we will never be any good, simple as that. Prepare for another bottom 2 finish in 2010.

It's not about being negative Fairfax, it's about looking at the reality of the situation at the moment. We need to expand this club unbelievably if we want to compete against the big boys. Oh, and you better get that torrets checked out.

I can understand your frustration. But I really think we now have assembled a group of core young players that are capable of delivering a premiership in a few years. Look at the 'class of 2000' - that was a team of honest triers and rookie elevations - they made a Grand Final. Our list in 2012 is going to shit all over that team.

Re: Watts/Natainui - I think we all know deep down we would love to have NicNat in the red and blue - he is a bloody exciting prospect. But it does not take my eye away from the prize - Watts is going to be a forward capable of kicking more goals than NicNat, thats what we drafted him for. If we had a decent ruck prospect I would not be concerned about this whole saga in the slightest. As long as Watts can contribute when it matters...3-4 years from now. If not, then come back and say 'I told you so'.

Bailey - this year will be telling - nothing to write home about yet. Have to say I'm happy with the clean-out that has happened in his time. Wouldve been easy to hang on the Johnstone, succumb to the demands of CJ and McLean, and Robertson - clearly he seems more interested in the future - rather than garnering a few meaningless wins through the acquisition of average 'past their used by date players' - aka Denis Pagan at Carlton 2004 - and subsequently setting the club back another 5 years. We have a very young group, who will all improve together.

Financially and Board wise this is probably one of the most stable periods the club has had. Its clear we have a future in the AFL, which is more than could have been said over the past 15 years.

Again, we wont set the world alight this year - although we should expect a much improved performance on last year.

On the Naitanui issue, I have to say I agree. The kid is a freak and I wanted him from day 1. I'm so far from convinced by Watts and he is my biggest worry. If Watts doesn't turn out to be a player that we all expect him to. Then my gentleman we are ****ed. Our whole future rides the shoulders of that kid, all we can do is prey that we made the right decision.

This year will be another long one, 15th or 16th is my prediction. And until Watts turns into that huge key forward, we will be in the bottom four.

Besides Jones and Jamar, who have improved, the rest of those players are borderline duds and wouldn't be improving at ANY club.

You can't make gold out of shit, idiot. You'd probably be angry if we drafted the EDFL division 2 B+F and he didn't "improve" into a great AFL player.

Also, are you people who are jumping on the Naitanui bandwagon forgetting that Watts (who is still 18) was rated number 1 in the draft by most footy experts including draft expert Emma Quayle? By God how impatient can you be? I'll be sure to rub it in when he is dominating.

Got to here and stopped reading. I have been a MFC supporter for 37 years, I'm 37 years old, been a member for 20 years. I have NOT for 1 second thought that we have made a blunder with this pick. Jack Watts is going to be a future leader of our club. Get off his back. Natinui is not a superstar, he is NOT a superstar! What do you base his status of being a superstar on? A Nab cup game?

I agree with you about the training venue though. I would love a 35,000 seat boutique stadium in the heart of the docklands that is our home ground and no one elses. No sharing. It's our ground, a bit like geelong. They get 20,000 to a game and make a profit of 600,000, we get 20,000 to the G and break even.

No hang on guys, I have not slagged him off, I still think he will be a very good footballer, but it frustrates the shit out of me that the club is keeping this kid in cotton wool and IMO is creating much more pressure on the kid. And u feel for him, coz it's not his fault. Going back to natinui, could you imagine the excitment this kid would have created at our club, with the jurrahcane!! I believe he would have brought more members on his own!! I firmly believe the reason we didn't select natinui was for the going home factor, and if that was the case, it was the wrong decision. Let's just hope wattsy turns out to become a star, or else the club will have egg on there faces.

I'd say Dunn made considerable improvements last year

Jamar has made more improvements than most

As for Jones, he'll be better off with more players around him in the middle. Jones cops most of the attention in the middle.

Watts will be a good goal kicker. The only mistake is writting him off before he has played any real games.

I think it is more about depth. A team must improve together and we will. These last two years have really seen a high turnover in players.
