very surprised that Toye was left out of Under 21s, fearless at the ball and would be super in a good team.

Marty King's comments in the record on the weekend were interesting Re: the u/21 players: some played well at this level and some showed they were not up to it, to leave players like Toye and some others in the squad out of the final team (that are hard at it and can play) just shows the selectors have either no idea on ability or they have their club blinkers on when selecting the team.

in regards to the salary cap i am in complete agreeance and they arent helping any of the young kids out by throwing their money around.

Southport are the only QAFL club not to have played an under 18 this year, have used the 23rd player rule to their advantage. Probably will lose a lot of the young players at the end of the year, but will not worry them they will just buy some more players.

I read this forum every week with great interest with out ever having a say. I see now that Aspley have won there first game under new coach Russel Evans but only there third for the year after having sacked yet ANOTHER coach. What’s that three coaches in three years? There was much hype at the start of the year having picked up a number of recruits from down south but aspley still sit second last on the ladder.

The thing that has got me wondering is that why in 3 years has there been 3 coaches sacked and no one from the board has put there hand up to take the blame for appointing them. Surely someone from the board is responsible for appointing these coaches because every time it seems the hornets start to go worse then they already have been (which is pretty hard) they get rid of the coach which is the easy option for the board.

Maybe its time to have a full review down at the hornets as it has such great potential to be such a strong club with the amount of money they have and the amount of young juniors coming through. I think they have to realise that they are playing at the highest level in Queensland football and not in the pineapple cup still. I have no doubt if this football club was run right they could become one of if not the strongest club in the aflq. if you look at the big picture they are the only club on the north side of Brisbane and only 45 minute drive to the sunshine coast. That’s a lot of talented footballers to choose from yet they are not taking full advantage of it

Notwithstanding the '3 coach sacking' statement is open to question the 3rd paragraph here makes a great deal of sense. Note: Sav was sacked, Marto not reappointed and Harding apparently lost support of players (maybe read Board if you like). History suggests that the coaching job at the Hornets is about as secure as the Richmond Tigers role (up to 2010). It is about time the Hornets took stock of how they run their total football operations if they are to get this right. The reputation of the club is declining in too many places when these issues keep re-occuring. The Board have built a financially strong basis to go forward in State League, but the wrong people want to make the football decisions. But then again what would I know?

If Redlands lose this week to Labrador at home then there season is finished you would think. For the list they have now can the question be asked "why"

aspley is not just a football club, but rather a near multi-million dollar business (voted Clubs Queensland best football club 2 years running) unlike any other club in State league, apart from southport. despite limited success on-onfield, you need to remember that it is a business and is continually growing, therefore can't have any peanut on the board.

Hmmm! Touched a nerve methinks! You miss the point, the Current and Recent Boards have failed in the football side of the club and I said they need to step back and let people who understand how to run football - run football.

"therefore can't have any peanut on the board" - so the board is stepping down? :D

only people involved with Aspley know the situation with Sav and Marto and work committments. For people to get on here and say 3 coaches have been sacked, they have no idea. a lot of people on here talk absolute dribble, im not talking about you OB, the bloke you responded to is one whoever he is??. PHC to State league is a massive transition. unless you are a member or player of aspley, you wouldnt have a clue.
To the Aspley bashers on here, talk about your own football clubs and give everyone a spell. i think we have all heard enough about Aspley ;) this is a forum about AFL queensland, anyone would think there is only one Club in AFLQ

Aspley have dominated this forum so much this season, from the start of preseason, maybe a separate Aspley forum should be created???

Obviously some people on here are 'with' the board and some very 'against' the board. Like all good democracies get down to the AGM and vote for the board you want. Maybe the vote count at the AGM could be broadcast on Bigfooty???

'Other' footy news. Southport have their first injury to a 'gun' player in Payne's calf?
Where are Redlands at, why are they failing to win games? Is there any 'pressure on' from within?
Who is going to finish in the top 5?

wouldn't think Payne's injury is very serious, he is a sensible boy who will have excellent rehab advice and no shortage of resources at Southport. In my opinion they are still very short price odds to win the flag and their reserves are probably even shorter price odds

Reports coming out of the club were that they were very unhappy with Harding after only a few rounds. What I am asking is are the people who are going to keep appointing these coaches going to step up and take responsibility for there choices? (Or from what it looks like BAD CHOICES) Because it looks like the board are happy to sit back and recycle coaches until they find someone who is going to win them some games.

Paynie will be back playing cricket next sunday.Sharks only have magpies this week so they will not miss him. They have excellant depth with half of gc17 kids playing reserves.

Maybe karmichael hunt can take paynies spot as he is drafted to southport

Does anyone on here no anything of the proposed 2nd tier comp to afl comprising canberra, brisbane clubs along with nt etc.Heard yest canberra clubs thinks it is confirmed.Spells disaster for some of the local clubs you would think if it happens

In my opinion you would think with the sucsess that the Aspley Footy Club have had at a junior level and licensed level you would only need a smart sheepdog and a few hard working pups to run the club or the buisness as some point out, but the current sheepdog and his helpers are looking after the wrong flock at the moment which is themselves. As jonnyj pointed out 3 coaches in 3 years, maybe the board has found the current Coach (No 3) from within, who will work within their agenda and win a game or two because he has been a part of the we are the best culture that they have been so famously spruking since their inception, winning one or two games does not mean sucsess. It is common Knowledge that Coach (No 1) was just a caretaker (and that is not having a crack at Marto) but he was looking after the job until the current committee stuffed up with their demands of how the job was to be done and they lost a pretty good prospect who was earmarked for this season - ask the question and watch them run for cover, They then tried bringing in someone new, Coach No 2 who tried to change the past culture of the club but after two wins he fell on his sword after he could not stand up as the coach with all of the knives in his back, inflicted because the club again did not want to change to go forward. To say that there is a big difference from Pineapple Cup to State League is very true but get real, Aspley have been linning up for their opportunity to play in the State League since the failed Mark Leddy led joint venture vote with the then established Eagles some 4 -5 years ago where many members some who had not been seen before and since filled the room to help defeat the motion. The only problem was through this desicion the club threw the baby out with the bath water and some very good buisness brains left the football operations and membership of the club and the peanuts were left to make the transition, you reap what grow and until some new seeds are planted the annual harvest at the Aspley Orchard looks like it will keep being barren and fruitless.

Blah blah blah - it sounds like running and smells like running then it must be running, another nerve eh BigE, my footy club is pretty stable and well run, gee I can't remember who our previous coach was but thats what happens when the committee thinks about what is good for the club its supporters and members, the region it represents and the game itself, Pretty boring stuff really.

OB thinks that the BigE is a person of much sense and crediblity and OB will stop talking about Aspley for the rest of 2010 (why am I writing in the 3rd person?) as long as Aspley start getting things right on the field (the sooner the better I say). As OB has always said the QAFL needs a strong State League club on the northside and at the moment there is really only one club that can step up to that role - lets hope they do it sooner than later.

By the way unless things change the BigE will never win the forum tipping comp while ever he (or she) tips along party lines! :D

I've listened to alot of the talk about Aspley, facts are facts. They have a state league sides thats sits near the bottom of the ladder and they have a State Association side that seems to be anchored near the bottom as well. For all their money and resources they are certainly an underperforming side. How many "Senior" premierships have they won and when was the last one of those??
