I was watching footy classified and although I don't really like Garry Lyon at all, he pointed something out which jogged my memory and was something that I was thinking when I was watching the game. Warnock was being grabbed by the jumper (early last quarter I think), by Brown and all he did was give him a few slaps on the arm in the hope that Brown would let go. Garry pointed out how that just showed the weak attitude the club has. The look on Brown's face was a look saying you guys are nothing, you're weak and we've shit all over you all day!

Now, I know Warnock was one of the only players who played well last Saturday but FFS stand up for yourself man! Seriously I agree 100% with Garry that he should've wrestled him to the ground, give away a free kick but don't show him that your just gonna cop it like a wimp. Stand up for yourself and stand up for the club and show them that we're not a bunch of pussies!

That was an indication of the lack of hunger/mongrel in our team and I have a strong feeling that we have players who only care about their pay check and not the jumper.

It seems like Judd, Kreuzer and Simmo are the only one's in our best 22 that are hard at it and don't take shit. I've even noticed with Murphy over the last few weeks, getting pushed around off the ball and just walking off and taking it, not standing up for himself.

I don't ever want to see this weak as piss attitude in my team again. The Hawks noticed it and killed us and we've been getting killed by it ever since.

This week we have our enemy the Bombers, time to stand up and show the football world what you stand for not only as a playing unit, but a club as well and earn back some damn respect.

I can smell a 'line in the sand' game on the horizon although, you guys are still in with a chance of playing in September so probably can't afford to have 3-4 blokes out for 6-10 weeks. Still, would be good to see another club take their frustrations out on the Bummers.

What?

I'd prefer our players to focus on playing the game than getting into petty little fights.

If Brown was pulling Warnock's jumper I would have expected Warnock to try and break that and get to the ball.

Not enter a pissing contest with Brown to see who is the tougher man.

I like a bit of biff in the game but not at the expense of winning.

Win the game on the scoreboard first. Then you can engage in as many little niggles as you like.

Do you realise how far behind we were at 3 quarter time? There was no chance of winning the game from that point on but then to show that you're just gonna let them shit on you as well is very poor.

It's not about being the tougher man, you've missed my point, it's about showing that you're gonna stand up for yourself and for the jumper and not tolerate gestures from opposition players saying you're weak as dogshit.

We aren't hard at the contest and opposition sides know that and that's why they rough us up and all we keep doing is go into our shell.

just give me a well drilled team and i'm happy. Although the 206 incident was pretty comical the biggest let down for me was that although the players knew we had to run and carry, THEY HAD NO IDEA WHERE TO RUN AND WHO WAS SUPPORTING THEM! (how many times did JR and Bower eff it up?)

we rarely hunt in packs, grinds my gears! :)

It's that sort of thing that shows we really do need something I've been harping on a little - to recruit a couple of homicidal maniac axe-murderer types.

When you're out on the field and one of your teammates gets physically smashed and no-one does anything, timidity can spread through the whole side quickly and you're out of the contest.

Seriously, if there was a good old-fashioned all-in brawl how many blokes in our current side would be any good?

Out of all of our recent picks, only Steve Browne (doesn't play enough) and Mitch Robinson (yet to fill out) come to mind as having a bit of a violent streak, although I'm hoping Marcus Davies does.

Our need for an added element of this nature would only be made more apparent if we make finals this year (where the rough stuff goes up a notch). When it gets hard-core physical we ain't got what it takes.

We are soft other then Judd, Waite & Simpson the rest of the playing group show no passion, spirit for the Carlton jumper. We NEED a few mongrels in our team. Bunch of high priced pussies is what we are. For the first time in 40 years of following this club I was embarresed how Carlton let the Pies do what they wanted to us.

That's the one good thing about Waitey's silly indiscretions this year.

He's actually shown more mongrel in a few games than some have shown all season.

He actually looks like he's getting angry out on the field at times, shame some others can't get enough fire in their belly to feel the same way.

I understand how far behind we were and I got your point - I just don't agree with it at all.

Engaging in fights with other players doesn't prove how tough you are.

I don't consider Barry Hall 'tough' for his actions on the field.

He has a presence that may make other players think twice about going for the ball in his general area, but I don't consider a player that engages in fights and decks players off the ball as a tough person.

What we need is a presence, a toughness. That toughness can come from starting fights all over the field but I never want to see my football club resort to thuggery to prove anything.

If you are tough at the ball (ignore the man to a degree) and exude a physical presence on the field with the ball in sight - then most opponents will think twice about starting a fight with a player on your team.

I'm all for the players standing up for the club but that should not be by targeting opposition players. Let the opposition have their little niggles if it makes them feel the bigger man.

I want our players to run through brick walls to get to the football and to kick a winning score - not to start petty little fights that mean little in the grand context of a football game.

These fights will become rarer if the opponent knows you are serious about winning football games.

Put this in the context of a schoolyard fight. If a kid starts getting physically bullied in the playground, you don't necessarily advocate the victim fighting back and causing the escalation of a potentially very harmful situation. It would be far more beneficial to walk away and focus on what is more important.

Until we start winning games of football teams will walk all over us in these little niggles - regardless of whether we physically fight back. Focus on winning on the scoreboard and the rest will naturally take care of itself.

Don't want a physical fight or anyone suspended but I've said it before and I'll say it again, the last person I saw dish out some legal punishment or stand up for a team mate in a game was ...... Cam Cloke.

Jarrod 'Mr late' Waite has tried, with no real success but the rest of the team can't even lay a sheppard much less dish out some physical presence.

Better damn well see some 'legal' physical presence on Friday night.

It was a cheap shot by Lyon. What was Robbie to do?

Smacking him in the jaw would've seen Lyon berate him for not being able to handle his emotions and being a sore loser.
Then Lyon went on to suggest he actually smack him and take two week suspension. What a moron - we barely have an in form ruckman and he suggest we just give one up despite the game being lost.

Would love to see how tough Leigh Brown gets against a 30 year old Ottens who would spit in his face for being such an inferior being.

He also sounded like a moron when also having a go at Betts for having a man who is 17 centimetres taller than him and 15 kilos heavier than him break a tackle, even though Eddie had chased from the pocket to catch a man that probably wasn't his.

Spot on Tanks. :thumbsu:

Other clubs who have been having a bad run look at our club and say to themselves...if we come out hard as nails, we'll roll them.

For the benefit of a 22 game season, you need to use one game to show the league we can be hard shits as well. If not, clubs really set themselves for us. It is no surprise we all say, "we just played so and so club back into form". Opposition clubs with their backs against the wall repeatedly smash us on hardness.

Every club needs to send a message at least once every 2-3 seasons to remind everyone to back off. If it costs 3 player suspensions then so be it.

Sacrifice one game per 2 seasons for the greater good!!! No one says the Bombers/Hawks are soft because of it.

Also when you make that type of statement, it is funny how it galvanises you to stand up to that form in an ongoing way. Think Maxwell who two seasons ago was a wimp in AFL footy. One or two hard statements/bumps on field and people think he is a hard man. He is living up to the statement he personally made!

WE NEED A LINE IN THE SAND GAME! Not for this years top 8, but for the next 3 years!

If we don't fire up this week after being called soft from all angles, well, something has clearly gone wrong.

What's the motive behind your comment's Lyon.
Get suspended for a couple of week's, so the Dee's can take our spot yeah.

Brown done that to Robbie because he knew he kicked Jolly's ass, and wanted him to do some stupid thing and get reported. Im happy he controlled himself and continued on. There are time's to show you have a pair, and there are time's to just get on with it.

Good boy :thumbsu: let your footy do the talking.

Interesting take on that.

Warnock had got the better of Brown all day, and Warnock was looking at Brown....not in fear......but like "wow, that's really tough Leigh, try getting ahitout and running with me around the ground".

Warnock repeatedly punched the hand of Brown until he let go.

Had he pulled him to the ground he probably would have got reported by the MRP for wrestling.

The irony of this thread is that Warnock was one of very few actually "fighting" with his footy on the day.........yeah.....he should have done something to get himself suspended......that would have gone down well.

Having said that, I think we will learn a lot about our group this Friday night.

Call it what you want, but Ratten has drawn "the line in the sand" in his post match presser, and no doubt did the same to the players prior to that (apparently he was quite late to the press conference).

How our players respond will be the interesting part.

Exactly, was our best by a mile.

One of very few that showed any heart and has only played a handful of games for the club.

Had the better of Leigh Brown who rode on the coat tales of the rest of his teams performance.

And copped a fine. Big deal. At least he would've made a statement for not only himself but his team! The softness is just being highlighted through that footage, not willing to take part in any physical aspect of the game. That look on his face was a "I can't beleive how soft and weak you guys are, you're a joke" kind of look. Made me sick. I'm not talking punch him square in the face but jeez just fire up and send the message that you're not here to play indoor football.

My point is Warnock did that with his footy.
One of very few who did.
He also put his body on the line at contests.
Much tougher than jumper pulling.
Leigh Brown would do well to note that.

You are angry because we put in a soft, insipid performance. I get it.

I just don't think the one player who showed some pride in the Navy Blue jumper is a reasonable target. There are probably 20 others that should be in line ahead of knockers.

look the problem with Carlton is that they go about playing their football the wrong way . They play heavy football which whilst would have been good during the yesteryears its not the type of brand of football conducive for modern day football which requires alot more flexibility and week in week out sustainability ...traditional style football is not the answer

Does anyone else think that if we show nothing this week its panic stations?

With Ratts giving the players a public bake and questioning their hunger, want, heart and voicing his embarrassment etc, the players should come out fired up and keen to make amends.:thumbsu:

But If the players don't respond, and serve up the same efforts they've been serving up, does it mean the coach isn't getting through to them? and there maybe an even bigger problem within the group?
i mean everyone sez we're young, and we are, but surely the effort MUST be at 100% each week regradless of the result.

*for the record im not trying to turn this into a sack ratts thread (i dont want him sacked) im just asking what others think, as Footy Classifed made a big deal about what Ratts said post game.

I love a bit of biffo but I thought it was spot on by 206.
He was never going to get reported for hitting his arm and with each blow seeming to get a bit harder there was some chance he could crack a bone - Brown = IDIOT
