That's a clause that players can request be put in their contract, sadly.

'Match highest earner' clause I believe it is, which as crows4flag said, it means if anyone signs for City on more money than he is on, City must increase his wages to match the higher earner.

Seriously, Man City are ****ed when financial fair play rules become active. Their wage bill exceeds their turnover, that's bloody insane. Patrick Viera is on 140,000 pounds a week!!! Now he was a great footballer in his time but that amount of money for who is effectively a squad player defies common sense.

Rooney's greed will see United's wage bill blow out as fellow team mates start saying "well you payed Wayne $180,000 a week, what about me!!!!".
