Port will trade for a Ruckmen

i think Griffen looked really good this year, but food for thought, what does it say about a players character that he requests a trade to a team where he is certain to be the number 2 ruck at best?

Wasn't there family issues, where he wanted to be close to them? Be strange if he moved away after 1 year.

yeah there was his dad was sick, but apparently its better now or something, rumours/reports suggest his wants to go back to adalaide with port the front runners.
in my opinoun i think it would be a very nice fit.

We have a PP and another second round pick. Would be in the 30's I'd say
Port have the following picks right now:
1st round: #6
PP: #28
2nd round: #33
3rd round: #51
....

For my money, if I were Port I'd be willing to trade the 3rd round selection (#51 overall) for Griffin, but the first 3 picks would all be off limits.

** This may change if one or more clubs opt to activate their GWS compensation picks this year - though I can't see any of them being that foolish.
Our 2nd rounder is apparently 34? so yours must be a bit lower.
Don't know where you got that one from..

The first round goes from 1-26 (17 normal picks, 9x GWS specials).
Then there's 3x priority picks (27-29).
Then there's Brisbane's compo pick (30).
Then the 2nd round starts..
31 - GWS
32 - GC
33 - Port
34 - Brisbane
35 - Adelaide
36 - Melbourne
37 - Richmond
38 - Fremantle

No way should Port give up a draft pick under 50 for a ruckman- Lobbe has already shown he can do the job and Redden and Bass could be expected to push for a game next year too.

If we are trading I would go Mark Blake before either Griffin or Maric- just hope we don't overspend

coxy149 there is a board for posters who have little to contribute aside from thinly veiled swipes at opposition teams and poor spelling. go back to bay 13 where you belong.

vader hit it on the head. pick 51 would be the one to get bandied around if port and freo were talking about griffen moving.

to be honest ild rather keep that pick and use it on youth. if we are only after a 2 year or so stop gap i seem to remember any one of half a dozen guys in the sanfl that were not troubled by him in the least, they would cost us a rookie spot. if we are after more well bass/ redden already look ahead of him at their stage of development.

nothing but speculation from a couple of journo's at this stage. we showed last year we have faith in our rucks and they hold redden in very high regard.

Do people remember Mark Blake?

Yes ...

I'd really prefer an end of draft selection used on a viable state league ruckman of AFL size.

I think it is more than speculation, please read below.

I think pick 51 is about right, but i was wondering if you suggest a player or two that may be a suitable trade. Was looking for either lock down small defenders or in and under midfielders.

"Our view has changed from when we lost (premiership ruckman) Dean Brogan to injury by what Matthew has been able to do in the past 10 weeks," he said.
"We will still be in the market place for a ruckman, but the need for a top-liner has disappeared to an extent compared with a few months ago."

1) im not havig a swipe
2) if you actually did any research on the griffin topic you would see that im correct in saying why one of the reasons he left the crows was family issues. You would also kow that port are keen on griffin and are seen to be leading the race for him.
3) as you are a port supporter i would not be to picky, griffin is a stable ruckmen, just look at his numbers when he replaced sandilands and still only 25 he would be a viable player....

"As a Port Supporter I would not be to (sic) picky" Insert swearing and comdemnation of this comment.

In the past 10 years we would have had 5 ruckmen who would walk into your side now and are probably better than any ruckmen you've had over the past 10 years - we are in a rebuilding stage - remember when you were bottom so you could pick up Hodge - the arrogance is pathetic.

Freo only needed pick 61 last year to get Griffin home so you'd think they'd be fairly happy to move him on without asking too much.

confused by this post. griffin has played very strongly in the games he was given this year, why would we be happy to lose him for little?

Ummm.... didn't Hawthorn trade for that #1 pick. Trust me on that one.

OK quite right - I'll correct it

Sorry to do this again but Hodge was drafted in 2001 and Hawks finished 6th that year. They got the priority pick (pick #2 overall) and got Roughead in 2004. Richmond also had a priority pick in 2004 (pick #1 overall) and got Deledio.

Yeah that's right that's why I deleted the reference to Hodge - the point I'm making is that Hawthorn were shite the time when we were winning a flag and now the roles have reversed. It doesn't mean that players won't play for Port becasue as we get quality players back in the club through the draft we will become strong again while the clubs that are strong now will begin to struggle.

I'm responding to the demeaning comment that Port supporters shouldn't be picky about who we get to play for the club and particularly with ruckmen throughout the years we have been VERY UNPICKY.

In short, most teams ebb and flow over the years - it just looks like its Ports time right now. The off-field administration issues doesnt help the cause. The demeaning comments are normally from ill-informed supporters - just ignore them and keep the passion for your club.

It seems Port has some competition for the services of Griffin. According to chanel 10 GWS are alos interested in Griffin and is prepared to offer Freo a 2nd round pick.

I would say if a club is going to offer Freo a 2nd Round choice for Griffen then they will be the club that Griffen plays for.

I wouldn't want to lose Griff without securing Clark, but then I'd much rather we secured O'Meara rather than Clark.

1st preference: O'Meara & Griffin stays
2nd preference: Clark & Griffin goes for something similar to what GWS is reportedly offering.

If Griffin agrees for the deal to happen, which I hope he doesn't as I'd prefer to see Brogan at GWS and Griffin at Freo.

nah thats strategically stupid ...

gws have shown they pick potentially elite youngsters in ward/scully/palmer

griffin doesn't fall into that category

why give up a second rounder for 3rd rank ruck when you can just pick up Longer in the draft
