The strong thought is Gillon McLachlan will be the man to replace Dictatormetriou when he finally goes.. Which may be when hell freezes over..

Trigg had to act immediately. Even Rendell, with the benefit of a couple of hours contemplation, agreed with his decision.

rubbish Trigg would have gained much more respect from everyone bar maybe AD, if he had come out and said "we at the AFC never have nor never will condone racisim. We will conduct an investigation into what happen and will get to the bottom of the issue. And if what's reported is true we will act accordingly".

On a side note was just listening to the Saturday morning sports show, Rucci like normal comes across, even more now in hindsight as an absolute ********. Passing things of as facts before knowing them.

what alot of people dont realise is that Triggy has ambitions for a senior role within the AFL, so he couldnt go against Demetriou even though he may have wanted to back Rendell, it would have been a killer for him career wise.

Also Demetriou and Rendell dont get along, Dem saw the oppty to get rid of Rendell for good and he took it.

I heard Rucci too on his show. All high and mighty, he was condeming Rendell's decision to give his views on FC rather that an "open forum". Presumably he wanted to get the interview for his newspaper column.

Rendell made the right decision to speak on TV and to a credible panel. Rucci needs to remember he is a sports writer and not pretend he is an investigative journalist.

The Bernie Vince e-mail was sent to 5AA too and as I understand Rucci was privvy to the e-mail before the story broke. Not on topic now, but indicitive of how he deals with "breaking stories".

Given Rucci's pro-port leanings he should exclude himself from the discussion.

I agree with you Froggy. once again he looks like an idiot.

But what I said is still correct. A lot of people will view the club and it's administration differently (for the worse) because of the way it has handled this issue.

That much is evident from the posting in this thread. I obviously disagree with a lot of people about Trigg's complicity, but the depth of feeling here is honest, genuine and widespread. I'm under no illusions that my view is in the minority.

That's exactly what this is about.

Trigg talked about "mud sticking". The biggest problem he faced is that almost every single drop of mud was being slung by the biggest gorilla in the AFL - Vlad. Vlad has long disliked MR, who had the balls to stand up to him and call him on the joke which is GWS (and to a lesser extent the GC draft concessions & player compensation). Vlad saw a chance to take MR down and has taken it. It's the act of a small, petty man.

Agreed.. But Vlad has pushed them hard to force Rendell out.. If we didn't act, i'd say Dictatormetriou would have if he could (which he seems to do what he wants).. And claimed it was based on the grounds of bringing a bad image, game into disrepute etc to back up his actions..

As i mentioned earlier, he said the other day that the recruiting officer should start thinking about other employment.. Oops, did i let that slip says Vlad..

Nice little public statement on what he wants to happen..

A few days later on Fox - I never forced or wanted him to be out of the game, sacked etc..

But did talk to Trigg and say "you need to deal with this"..

What route would have been better for the afc to take, who knows..

He is 100% committed to doing what he sees is best for the club. Of this I have no doubt at all.

Whether people like his methods, or agree with his vision of what is best, is entirely another matter - but I have no doubt at all about his dedication to the AFC.

Call me lazy, naive or lacking in passion for this issue but I simply don't see the point in writing an e mail to Steven Trigg when we all know nothing will change.

I don't care with you see thing from the AFC point of view, the AFL point of view or Matthew Rendell point of view, nothing will change. Matthew won't get his job back, he will continue to look for an alternative line of employment and Steven Trigg will remain CEO of the Adelaide Football Club.

If you agree with him or not, nothing at the AFC will change. in the immediate future The SANFL commission will not sack him, the AFL commission cannot sack him, ask him to quit and he won't be handing in his resignation as he doesn't believe he did anything wrong. People power won't change this. So why even bother.

As for Matthew Rendell, yes he was thrown under the bus and made out to be a major scapegoat but haven't we come to expect that with the AFL and important issues. They place their head in the sand whenever important issues are arisen and expect it to go away. They need to follow Matthew Rendell advice on the drafting and development of young Indigenous players but we know they won't. Why? because then they will admit guilt and they are wrong.

IMO, this is all the AFL doing, They have told the Crows in no uncertain way to terminate his employment - sack him or get him to resign. Either way, by 9 am Monday, he was gone.

The AFL or Andy D will react first and then ask questions, it's all about the public image and brand protection for their billion dollar industry. If they just took the time to review things and had a grass roots feel for how things in the community actually worked, they would have a much better understanding.

AFL football is an elite sport now, and it's not just elite in talent, it's elite in social, economical and cultural and as long as kids from low socioeconomic area are getting drafted, they need to have a wide spread understanding of how the community think, feel and act in relation to all area of football.

The BV incident is blown out of proportion..... MR's statements are taken out of context... The media bay for blood.

When a player is being investigated for a bar room brawl there are no calls for resignation. I don't see mentions of fines or punishments by the clubs. There may have been consequences but surely physical violence is just as an important issue as "image" .

A clear case of double standards why isn't AD out asking for a sacking on this issue? Clearly if you are a darling of the game you get to "shrug it off".

If you are with the AFC you get hunted out and much ado made about a situation with a simple and logical explanation. BV and MR!!

I've gone full circle with regards to how I'm (reasonably) hoping this might turn out.

Originally I felt there was no way we could hire Rendell on again. Then I thought, perhaps his interview might clear the stigma on his name and he might be able to come back.

But now I feel that he wouldn't want to come back even if the stigma disappeared entirely. It sounds like he was just tired of working in football, and this incident wouldn't have exactly rekindled his love in football, or the AFC. Anything short of a public apology from Trigg would have to leave him feeling betrayed, or at the very least left out in the cold by the club.

At this stage, I think the only hope of Rendell ever coming back to footy at all is that he might have the desire to leave the game on a positive note.

There have been a couple of really good emails posted on here in the last 24hrs - particularly the ones by Allefgib and jackster83. Both of them steered well clear of emotion and abuse, raising valid concerns and objections to the way in which Trigg has conducted the AFC's business. I think Trigg would treat this kind of email seriously, as distinct from the emotional & abusive emails which are probably being filtered without even hitting his InBox.

Maybe people could broaden their email campaign, targeting the AFC Board members? These are the people to whom Trigg is accountable. Let them know how Trigg's actions are being perceived in the wider community - and maybe that might result in action/changes taking place.

yes, there has been but I still don't see it making any impact.

The only way the AFC members will have a real say, is to change the Constitution in regards to the members voting rights.

He was emotionally drained when he said that Stab. I think Rendell is the only bloke I know who with an apology from Trigg, he would come back....

I don't know. I can't think of too many occasions where the whole of the Adelaide supporter base has been galvanised & polarised in this way.

The Board members aren't going to concern themselves too much with what 1 or 2 people think - and that's probably the number of people who bother contacting them. However, I think they'd probably have a different response if their InBoxes were flooded with thousands of emails, each of them condemning Trigg's actions.

I think this is one of the few issues which genuinely has the potential for having the Board step in & change the course of the AFC's path. The level of anger & disappointment is so high that this might just be one storm which they can't ride out.

and the answer is the SANFL commission as they're out licence holder. Yes Steven Trigg will become answerable to the AFC board but at the end of every year, Steven Trigg will give a report to the SANFL commission and they will either appoint him or sack him.

Just as they did with Keith Thomas and before him Mark Hayesman at Port Adelaide.
