and to put it striaght I am not blaming anyone or the club for Martin taking pills.... drinking. Yes he is young and no matter what enviroment ... a kid will be a kid. Its the fact the club still needs to "help" him do basic life skills thats the worry.

I ok I am prepared to cop the whacks for bringing this up.... It seems Dusty is his own worst enemy... a kid in a mans body... What were the reason why March took Dusty in ... in the first place?? It seems pretty clear now. The point I am making is surely the club with it's resources could have made Dusty more prepared for the tranisitions he is now making.... remember by taking him in March has taken on some of that responsibilty!! how anyone cant see that surprises me.... these problems aren;'t new and they will continue to be there in every generation. I apluad March for putting his hand up but!!
So for Craig Cameron to turn around and say that Dustin is lacking in simple life skills and now neads to learn these skills worry's me when he has been under the care of our club in the form of living with the president.... Our track record in looking after troubled soles is not exactly great. Is it a clubs responsibilty???? yes ??/ no?? if so how much?? Is Dustin just a spoilt kid that is just a &*^khead??.... With the amount of resources that is pumped into clubs for player welfare are we getting a bang for our buck???
Because the worst thing that could happen is for Dustin to spiral out of control from here.

I feel for Gary March and I can understand the hurt that Dustins action would have brought him...... for the club dealing with him from now until he finally "grows" up will be challenge. Do we look back at the lst 2 years and think it was a wasted exercise when clearly Martin STILL isn't ready for the freedoms of living outside a family enviroment.... or could have we prepared him better???

Mate there are people out there a lot older then Dusty who still haven't learnt many of life's lessons and how to look after themselves, you're turning a non issue into an issue, it's not up to March and his family to hold Dustins hand through every aspect of his life, if Dustin can't take it upon himself to learn basic aspects of life then no body else is responsible for that.

What was the point of having Dustin martin living with the president if he was getting any "life skill" taught???? seems a poor reflection on the president if Martins life skill have gone backwards..... WTF???

Who says they gone backwards nut, you got a measure on what they were before he moved in?

I think it's pretty harsh to link the Pres to Dustin's behaviour. The Pres does read BF. And he's probably hurting as much as Dustin is. Dustin took an non prescribed sleeping pill, drank two bourbons and slept in. They are the known facts. If that's a reflection of bad parenting or life skill teaching for a 20yo by the President then, while I'm no Dr Benjamin Spock, I think that's harsh. The President has opened his house to Dustin for 2 years. He didn't have to do that but he did. Dustin is now learning to live alone and be responsible. He has learned a tough lesson on the way, but it's a tough lesson in the context of the AFL environment in which he exists. If you take AFL out of it, then having two drinks and a sleep in is probably par for the course for a 20 year old.
The Pres should be congratulated for taking Dustin in. Not pilloried.

kiwitiger, your thoughts of Gary March must be influenced by your high standing in the club and must be tempered by us. You clearly know so much more about what goes then all of us ( and most of us are wildly jealous) and kudos to you for putting yourself in this position because i am sure there are a lot of other things you could do with your time and money.

However its not so simple to say ,if you take AFL out of it its par for the course for 20 year old. You cannot take AFL out of AFL players. The down part for these guys is the microscope and expectations. The fact the Dusty probably earns 3 times what i do ( his next contract will be 5 times at least) and i have been in the workforce for decades is the payoff.

I agree that the Pres as nothing to do with what dusty did but sadly as Pres everything that the club does ultimately reflects on him. Including might i add the tough penalty handed out. Good and bad.

This thread raises an interesting point, when those of us that moved out of home stuffed up like similar to how Dustin did, did we go and blame our parents for not giving us the proper life skills? I'm not sure about others but I sure as hell know that I didn't. After all it was my decision to do the things that got me into trouble and I was the one who had to deal with the consequences as a result.

Same applies to Dustin. He made the decisions that got him into trouble and he alone is responsible for the position he now finds himself in. To blame anyone else is foolish.

nut, after reading this thread... I am a tad disappointed in your parents :(

Remember this is the kid who dropped out of school early and ran off to dad to work, realised life was tough out there and ran back to a more nurturing footy environment. He has jumped into footy at RFC and obviously not ready to be fully responsible for himself. Always being into full on training and have some one else to do the "life skills" things meant that he didn't have to develop those skills, may not have even realised how important they were. The March family have put two years into helping the boy mature to the point where he felt it was time to break the shackles, he now has that steep little learning curve of being totally responsible for himself and is now ready to receive the coaching he needs off the field for that part.

Well done the Marches, dig in Dusty and show the world you are a man on and off the field. You have my support.

The whole Dustin Martin issue is a concern.

He has not progressed as we all thought he would. He will ,but we just need to turn done the expectation meter a tad.

I reckon you're marking him pretty hard, i accept he may not have lifted on last years form , but his kpi's are all pretty good, avg 23 possies a game 4 i50s ....slightly down on goals...watch this space....he still has plenty of upside and with some more steel and a little more resolve hopefully he can push into numbers grigg regularly produces

Yes you are blaming March, the point of this whole thread is your notion that his failed education of Dusty is the reason what happened happened.

He is old enough to vote, drink, be a a juror, and kill for his country. If he's old enough to do all this and wn his own house, I'm pretty sure he's old enough to bear FULL responsibility for his actions without deflecting onto others

Too kind Peejay. I'm just like all of us. Love the Tiges.

You're right. AFL players know what to expect and are paid a premium for it. Dustin is learning that.

The Pres is a ripping bloke and he can't defend himself here due to social media policy, so I will.

And I still love you Nut!

Please show me where i have said i blame the club for Martin taking pils?

The concern i have is that craig cameron has come out and basically said that martin lacks simple life skils. Excuse me for thinkng that rhe reason he was put into Marchs care was to help that.

Yep lets just hum and close our eyes and pretend nothing is wrong. worked well fir the eagles and cousins and it worked well with Fev.

Nice revision.

You said Martin lacks life skills, and given he lived with March to help him out, wasn't the onus on March to ensure he had these skills. If this isn't blaming March I don't know what is.

Massive cop out

Agree with this. It was a poor thread, which was incredibly poorly worded from the outset and now it's a complete cop out. Nut, you blamed March in your OP and now you don't. Why don't you just come out and say you were wrong or just stick by your original story? It sounds like you are too proud to admit you launched an unnecessary attack on the club president and want to have it both ways.

Cop out??? my point remains the same

"RICHMOND has expressed concerns about Dustin Martin's life outside of football, revealing the suspended midfielder needs to develop ''simple life skills'' such as cooking and cleaning and may be required to juggle outside work with football to keep himself occupied."

Now surely at some point the March family or the club could have helped him gain what seems like pretty basic "life skills".... Sorry for assuming that this was one of the reason why Martin was put in the care of March in the first place!!!

At no point if the thread have I blamed March or the club for Martin taking drugs.... do I have to spell my point out again???

To say that's not blaming the president might be literally true, but I'm sure most would see the distinction as splitting hairs.

Well is it not a poor reflection on the president that once Martin left his house hold he lacked "simple life skills" ???? Does the March family eat out every night??? get their washing dry cleaned???? Do they have a cleaner????
If this is such a concern NOW then why wasn't it addressed in the previous 2 years???? because they knew about it then.......

No. You did blame the president '"seems a poor reflection on the president".
I was, and am still stunned, that you could write something like that in the first place and then given a chance to retract it, you still maintain your flimsy vigil. To this day it remains one of the worst threads I have ever had the misfortune to read on BigFooty.
Pfft.

Putting aside your semantics about you thinking you are not blaming March (the others have addressed that), I think I see where your premise is falling over.

I know one family where one son has rocked on, the other is a $&@# up. Both raised the same, taught the same, and lived under the same conditions. Difference is one listened and learned, one didn't.

You seem to be assuming because Martin is skill learning "life skills", he hasn't been taught. Ever thought he has, but he simply hasn't applied what he has been told? Left school at 15, casual jobs, and then life in footy - hardly the background of a guy who seeks stability and security.

As I've said several times now, sooner or later Dusty has to take responsibility, and to his credit it sounds like he has.

March deserves praise for taking him into his home, and treating him like family. Most wouldn't have even done that

Do you have teenage sons Nut ? .. Do you know any teenagers ?

I LMAO when i think back to what i was like at that age . If i had to leave home i would have been dead within in fortnight , dosnt mean i had shithouse parents or role models ;) ... i was just a lazy teeage pr1ck who hadnt grown up yet.

Whilst i dont have sons i have daughters who have/ do have boyfriends of that ilk and i'll tell you , its a different world today . We used to drink 12-18 cans on a friday night , they now pump in the vodkas and red bulls , drop E's and other assorted chemicals the same as we used to get plastered .Its the norm . And how many teenage boys are going to do exactly what their parents/custodians tell them to do all the time ??? LMAO ... bugger all thats how many

Looking at Martins case , trying to Blame Gary March is totally ridiculous . Where is his mum just quietly ?

Dusty will learn and he will be the better for it . This is not concerning me all that much to be honest

I had the pleasure of meeting Gary March at the GWS game whilst getting into a lift . He took the time to chat to me for a good couple of minutes even though he was clearly pressed , busy and short on time . I like to think i am a pretty good judge of character and i walked away from that meeting thinking that Gary March was a dead set ripper bloke . The type of bloke that i would like to have my kid living under his roof

I really think you need to just let this one die mate

I blame him for the fact that we now have to spend more time educating Martin..... so yes. The fact that Cameron has raised concerns that one of our players is having trouble with "simple life skills" is also concerning to me... especially one as good as martin.

Are you saying that March had no role to play???

I dont care for the back slapping .... March must carry some of the blame.
