I think he would have already played AFL games this year if he wasn't on the rookie list, he's proven himself in the VFL, why not reward him for it?
Yes i get were you are coming from. But i think he still should be rookied and elevated when we can next season abit like Sam Dunell.

Ledger is only 20 and Watters has emphasized his importance in the club's future. If there are any mids we have on the list that are the same age as him and better then please let me know. If told he was gonna be rookied Ledger would definitely want to be traded, he deserves to be playing footy.

The fact that he didn't get much of go in the seniors tells me that he's no closer to making it than last season. From what I've seen of him, his disposal is poor as is his decision making. What pick did he go at? Pick 60 odd. They don't all make it, hopefully he does.

I will be interested to see who if any of the rookie listed players get promoted. Dunnel would have to be favourite and Ferguson offers a bit of height in defence. From what I saw of Curren he looked alright and was consistently in Sandy's best.

For list management reasons.
I dont mind the idea of trading contracted players. Ideally we'd go for a draft pick upgrade rather than a stupid late pick.
For example Jones + pick 50 in exchange for pick 42 or something ( realising I have no idea what picks we will end up with just off the cuff ).

His kicking is fine. He didn't get many games this year because he has poor endurance, not lack of ability. Another pre season along with all the player development focus should see him play 15 games next year.

I think Andreoli has had 2 years on the rookie list as well...will either need to be elevated, delisted or re-drafted.

Peake Polo Crocker = 3 Senior Spots. Archer = one Rookie spot that has to be reduced by 2.
Upgrade 2 Rookies. Now we have 1 Senior spot and 1 Rookie spot.
Delist Blake, Jones and Clarke. Thats 4 Senior Spots.
Goddard = 5 Senior spots.

Delist Shenton, re-draft Andreoli....2 Rookie spots

Trade in 2 new players...Draft 3 players...rookie draft 2 players.

38 on the main list...6 rookies.

Sounds good to me

Except Jones is contracted. Don't worry about BJ, if he leaves we get an extra pick, that we use, so it balances itself out whether he stays or goes.

I really doubt CJ has a future with any club. We aren't the only team that's going to focus on good kicking skills, Hawthorn have changed the game and now everybody is going to be focusing on it. CJ's disposal by foot is up there with the worst in the comp which is unfortunate because there wouldn't be many who put in as much as him.

On Cam Shenton, im taking this from my upcoming review but its worthy to be posted in here...

In opening 10 games (and NAB Cup) he was played as a forward and even I admit he was on knifes edge half way through season but he turned his form around and has earnt another year.

When he was played up forward he only averaged 9.2 disposals, 2.6 marks and 2.3 tackles. In last 7 games of season he increased his averages to 14.42 disposals, 2.71 disposals and 1.28 tackles. He was named in best in 3 of the 7 games.

People are rating him too harshly and judging him on early season form and have him marked man from long time ago, but you really need to watch VFL to know he was one our best performed in last 7 weeks of season.

We recruited him to be a forward though, we don't need any more half backs

But he's 22 and 14 disposals off the backline is not a lot. Put him in AFL and he'll be on 10 or less.
Some years we have space for this sort of player but not this year.

He also played as shutdown player on small forwards, which affected his out put, forgot to say that in other post.

If the club has the money to cover a freshly drafted kid's wage once all other list management is done, maybe it would be beneficial to cut our losses with Winmar and cop his salary on the chin. It's better than taking up a spot on the list which, by the looks of it, are going to be hard to conjure.

Could we avoid the payout by rookie'ing him?

I feel sorry for him.

And a bit of OT, but that game followed a script I've already seen way too many times.

And hope same people watching Zac Clarke.

Don't want make this into Ross Lyon thread but you seriously have to question his coaching in critical moments in big games. Failed to make move of Dawson to Walker when every man & his dog saw he was going win game for them before half time. Not first time RL has failed make a move. Seems he doesn't have Plan B.

lol Walker is exactly the type of forward that would destroy Dawson, he would've been rag dolled
