This may or may not be the correct place to ask this but were Judd and Lynch close when Judd was at the Eagles? As far as I know they are the same age. Could they be a factor in convincing Lynch to make the move?
Judd and Kerr are best mates and Kerr and Lynch went to school together and are very close so I imagine Juddy wouldn't be against the big Q joining.

Would be good if Kerr wanted to head across as well ;)

There will be 3 talls next year with Cas/Hammer (Rather Cas) as the resting ruck. Simular to Collingwoods setup under Mick.
So:
Cloke - Waite
Dawes - Lynch (if lynch comes to carlton)
Brown- Cas/hammer

4 Players vying for the one spot is just a little rich for mine.

Not excited in any way for Lynch, but may be proved wrong.

Don't think we'll see much of Mitchell next year. A full season in the 2's and a big kick up in fitness for him.

Historically Waite will only play a half to 2 thirds of the season so we could well see Hammer, Lynch and Casboult together for a few games and even then Hammer and Cas are no certainties to play the full season.

Rowe is the great unknown.

While not overly excited either he is durable, a team player and probably a slight upgrade on Thornton so I don't think we are losing anything by picking him up.

If viewed as Thornton out Lynch in (might have even been yourself who made the point) it seems a little more digestible.

With fairly sizeable question marks over Rowe, and Mitchell and Casboult still needing plenty of development I actually think this a pretty handy move. If one of the young bucks takes Lynch's spot at some point in 2013 it wont be the worst possible outcome...the reported offer is not much more than the average AFL wage and at worst Lynch would remain handy depth.

Not a sexy choice, figuratively or literally, but a durable known quantity. I can cop that.

Just wondering whether Lynch has played in defense at any stage of his career? Being a 'gorilla' himself, would he be able to play in defense on those with similar bodies, if required, that is.

Cannot see the point in recruiting Lynch. He can't play back. We don't need another ruckman. For tall forwards we have Waite (mr. 14 games maybe), Cas-25-Rowe competing for the second tall spot and a rotation of Warnock, Kreuzer and Hampson. Lynch is a long, but lousy kick for goal, not a great mark and has non-existent ground skills. I would prefer we worked with what we have. If we must trade (and I do not see a real need) I would go for another tall defender (since ours break down regularly) and/or another small defender (since joey, tuohy, scotland have not been able to shut down consistently the dangerous small forwards).

I also dance a jig to the tune of Bell.

I think the MC's reasoning for chasing Lynch is his ability to stay on the park.

If you could guarantee Waite, Hammer, Rowe, Mitchell or Casboult could stay on the park for 15-20 games next year then there would be no need for him.

Where's Walker????

With Lynch at Carlton, it should be like this imo:

Walker Waite Armfield
Betts Casboult/Hammer Garlett
You beat me to it, only want Lynch as depth.
Change it to Hammer in the pocket, maybe give Garlett a crack at the Jetta role*

*Sydney's pacy mid/wing, not Dons spud forward. Garlett already tried that role this year

Unfortunately the state of play this year would suggest a durable tall forward is exactly what we need.

While I'd be surprised to say the least if our talls went down again next year in the same numbers, having a look at what we have sheds some light.

Waite: Historically struggles to play a full season
Hampson: Also injury prone and not someone to hang our KPF hat on
Casboult: A handful of games and also injury prone to date
Rowe: Complete unknown at senior level; may not turn out to be up to it
Mitchell: Injury prone thus far, has played one senior game and not fit enough by his own admission
206: Injury prone and very average as a forward
Kruezer: Will spend most of his time in the ruck

Lynch is durable, will need to be minded by an opposing tall and has alot of experience.

No one on here is raving about his possible recruitment but he will be useful if he does come on board.

What I can't understand is, if we're so keen to get him, why are west coast so reluctant to sign him?

  • Has formed friendships with a playing group for a decade
  • 33 goals from 21 games out of a possible 24
  • Kennedy is injury prone
  • F McInness, the one he's supposed to be vacating a spot for, is a 19yo who hasn't played a game.
For a top 5 team, a player who has been a club stalwart walking to another club after knocking back a 1 year deal sounds fishy.
Buyer beware. Would much rather we put faith in Casboult and Mitchell and draft Membrey.

Just saw it somewhere else:

Bell, Casboult and McLean signings to be announced at the B&F (Thanks LP from CSC)
Two years for each of them :D with the option of a third and a 15% pay rise if we win a grand final in the second year :D

I thought about the same thing myself.............many times over.
Can't believe they thought they could get away with it on-field. Crazy.

Apart from Harry looking like he's giving the Adelaide guy a good 'seeing to' the other surprising thing is that Harry is actually picking up an opponent !

West Coast have offered him a 1yr deal and Carlton have offered him 2 years.

If Kennedy and Darling are both playing plus nic nat and cox spend time forward, he won't be getting a game. Would he rather spend his time playing for west perth in front of 2000 people or in front of 80,000 against the pies while wearing the navy blue.

Eagle midfielder wants out
WEST Coast midfielder Koby Stevens has requested a trade after struggling for opportunities in his three seasons at the club, with the Eagles announcing four further list changes.

Would be funny if we got Suban after we traded Warnock for the pick he was eventually taken with. Ibbotson is definitely on my wishlist. Silvagni is not so much on the radar despite how nice it would be to have a Silvagni back at the club.
A couple more years and we should do...

Expecting Eddie's next big piece that will shock the footy world to be on how the Pies cheated the salary cap.

You saw it here first.
