If he plays at his worst, then he really is an over-paid spud.

- in his first season with us he didn't play due to a cracked vertebra in his neck
- next few seasons he was very much a novice learning how to play the game
- 2012 could have been a "break-out" year, but for repeated concussions

Hmm, just as well he doesnt have any medical problems lol

The more I read about it, the more the AFC look like dodgey car salesmen. Take what you get AFC and pull your heads in.

Have to disagree. Johnston has played pretty well in the sanfl and would prefer him over White (who's been a big disappointment IMO).
Look I will give you that Jesse has been a disappointment but please don't try and tell us that Johnston had a great year. He has been just as much a disappointment as Jesse. In fact for swans supporters more so as he was a high pick with a big reputation.

Jesse to to help you out finished the year playing in the ruck. Which he did without relief. Was amongst the best each week.

We should stop playing this game where mine is bigger than yours

No player lost but your reputation as solid trader and negotiator will be in tatters. If this trade falls through, Sydney will have egg on its face as it will be obvious that your club did not perform any due diligence prior to the announcement and took Blucher on his word regarding Tippets contract.

I hope we can negotiate a win/win for both clubs, but I would rather Tippet have the indignity of going to the PSD than Adelaide accept pick 22 and a spud. He did not have the courage to be honest with his teammates and club, so why should we assist him with moving to a premiership rival? Adelaide would be better served if he ends up in GC or GWS.

Hardly

Another nonsense argument, if the crows are holding out for too much from our point of view it wouldn't be the first time a trade has failed to get done, doesn't impact our reputation as much as it does the Crows.

Look at the StKilda Collingwood fallout, its not collingwood which is seen as poor traders, they offered unders but all they reasonably could, St Kilda refused, comes out looking like StKilda screwed the pooch.

This situation is very similar, we are offering unders, but no ridiculously so, so if the trade fails it is all going to come back to Adelaide.

Players that go to PSD have a history of getting to the club they'd like, so whilst I'm sure its not our preferred option, it is not going to phase us if this is what occurs.

Exactly White was behind even Walsh and clearly plenty more. Thanks for proving my point...:thumbsu:

Yet better than johnston...look forget it if you want to be right you be right well done son!

Congrats on the victory, however. I have not / will not ever doubt the Sydney Swans ability to recruit. I was simply stating that LJ will be superior player to that of Armstrong, which like I said will be proven in due time. I'm not sure where you think he will slot in your team in 2013 (based on current form). Unless of course, you have the retirements of Bolton etc then he MAY get a gig.

LJ's issue is that he has a personality trait that comes across as extremelly immature and doesn't work hard enough. That was also indicated by your club at the time he was traded. This is the trait that many believe has held him back from playing much more games in the AFL and not only that he wasn't going to get a gig over a bloke who the club had invested so much money in.

2013 will be a new year and I seriously hope he get's a run in the seniors as quite frankly he's just too good to be playing in the twos.

Please explain how you can compare apples and oranges. Johnston and Armstrong are 2 completely different players. One is a line breaking defender like Shaw, Malceski and Mattner the other is being groomed as a KPF. How can you even compare them?

Happy to cough up Superman but not Batman, to much upside.

Batman is always getting into those dark moods and hanging out with a young boy he can go

Johnston would have played 15 games at most AFL clubs this year. His form in the SANFL was outstanding. Club has high hopes for him. Me, I'm sitting on the fence regarding his worth. His good is very good, his bad is just plain awful.

The only dispute was the method of assessing value of players

White v johnston

Tippett v reid

Johnston could be a gun no denying it

If White has been dominating, why wasn't he playing for us? Surely he must be a better alternative than Pyke? White would/should be a better relieving forward?

P.S. I'm a swans supporter and had high hopes for White. We need a big marking forward and thought this would be his break out year.

Anyways this is way OT so I'm not going to discus the White vs Johnston comparison anymore.

Anyone want to play a game. How many posts do you think there will be before we get an answer on the trade. I am guessing 5,000

How much impact on what we have to give do people believe tippett being out of contract and nominating where he wants to go will have on what we have to offer

Surely it negates it some what in comparison to going after say taylor walker who is signed

Johnston was homesick as it was good that he went back to Adelaide. I'm sure that he will make it in the AFL. Adelaide will win that trade but it fits the priorities of both clubs, which is why they are good trades.

Just jumped the fence for a second and can't believe the neighbours think I'm ditching one of my kids to make room for an adopted child! More Ron's I say!

Lets me guess adopted kid wont even go back and live there but they want you two best kids to move in?

I love the "look swans fans your club values tippett they will just get the trade done"

But dont suggest that the crows will take a bit less to get it done, oh no its all one way traffic

Holy shit guys, I just realised.... we spoke to Tippett's management in August.... Ben Reid, after much speculation that he might come to the Swans, re-signed with the Pies in August. In fact, Kurt Tippett put off contract talks on the 21st of August, and Reid re-signed on the 22nd (at least, this was when they were reported).

What are the chances we were looking into Reid, but then made an offer to Tippett, who accepted, so we told Reid's manager that we weren't interested any more (no cap space for both Tippett AND Reid), who subsequently took Collingwood's offer. Just speculating, but the timing is strange.

I have grown tired from the Adelaide gibberers posting over here so I really hope this gets resolved quickly. We can begin our flag defense talk and Adelaide fans can get back to the fantasy land where they are a top 4 contender next season. They won't be getting 6 games against the bottom dwellers to pad their win column next year.

The Hawks are apparently already straight through to the 2013 GF according to Lake.

I hope we make it too!

A lot of people are under the impression that Luke Ball fell to the Pies in the PSD but it was the national draft and he went at pick 30.
Is there anything that will prevent Tippett nominating for the National Draft? That would be his best bet to get here if Adelaide don't like what we are offering.

Wellingham pick 17....let's think about it for a second

Kennedy and McGlynn for picks 39, 46 and 70.
McLean for pick 12.
Mumford for pick 28.
Jolly for pick 14 and 46.

One trade means nothing. WC rate Wellingham, he's a Premiership player, he suits their needs perfectly, and they had the pick to give. They paid overs, but were trading off quickness and simplicity for value. Now that deal is done, they can look to getting other stuff done.

Our situation is different. Giving up a first rounder is easy. Introducing players is more difficult. If we had a player like Wellingham who was both good, replaceable, and willing to leave, we'd be more than happy to chuck that in with pick 22. But we don't. That's the reality of the trade situation. We can either pay unders or overs, and you can bet that with Tippett not contracted, we won't be paying overs, especially since doing so would mean breaking up a Premiership side.

I bet Sydney rate tippet higher than wc rate wellingham....wellingham was also out of contract and requesting a trade to wc...exact same situation
