North Melbourne and their one way "rivalry" with us.

Are they looking for a rivalry? I can't really think of an actual rival apart from the Bulldogs, and that's only one because they both don't want to be the first kicked from Victoria.

Since I have been on this site, I have noticed that North Melbourne supporters have the biggest hard on for the Bombers, but we actually couldn't give a crap about them. Every time I look at a future prediction about us they're in our faces about our season collapse even though it was obviously due to cruelling injuries. Any opportunity they get they give us crap. I just don't understand why they aim us so hard, have I missed something? I know we have the whole white collar vs blue collar thing going from back in the 1900's, that's all I can think of though.

I have always respected them as a club, as they were quite strong in the 90's and early 2000's and that's when I was growing up, but I still don't understand where the obsession with us begun.

Yeah the North supporter friends I have don't really hate Essendon, one comes to a few Bomber games with me and another friend as a neutral.

Most North supporters I know are the type who kind of just keep one eye on the footy rather than being really into it.

Cannot stand them. I hate them and they hate us. I am fine with that. I actually enjoy beating them.
They are just one of those teams that you extremely dislike for nothing. and Bigfooty is not the reason why I hate them though. I have always hated them.

Considering that we denied their entry into the VFL, it is not surprising why they hate us. Its a bit one way because they haven't really done anything to us. They are like that little brother who is jealous of you because you are big and successful.

From my perspective, my Mum barracks for the Kangaroos so I've always had a bit of a soft spot for them. And it was hard not to be impressed with how they played throughout the '90s.

To the extent there was a rivalry I always saw it as a desire to beat Wayne Carey. He was the best in the game and he usually saved his best for the Bombers. The desire to beat the Kangaroos was all about beating the team (and the player) who was the best at that point in time. By 2000 the 'rivalry' had diminished and then when Carey left the Kangaroos the 'rivalry' was gone. From my point of view, the 'rivalry' never returned.

It's quite annoying on the other boards that you can't post anything about the bombers without a north fan completely derailing the thread. Mufassa seems to be the worst of them but there are many others.

Like the OP I assumed that something had happened that I didn't know about to provoke the collective hatred.

Its a suburban rivalry that the players of the 90's used against us because we at the time had all the cash and facilities and North despite is success was almost made extinct...
They then became the benchmark for the team we had to beat if we were going to go anywhere and hence the rivalry had developed.
I've never hated North despite some good ol' tough games in which they have had our measure the last 20 years. In fact my respect for teams like North and Sydney goes as far as saying I wish at time we showed the spirit they have shown when the chips are down, until we get that we wont win a premiership.
Carlton I hate, even Collingwood. North has my respect and with a couple additions to their team could be a real threat in next 3-4 years for a premiership.
