Carlton

Carlton would survive. They'd do the whole cockroach surviving a nuclear war or survive without it's head type thing*

* not at all intended to offend cockroaches

People who are using Eddie as justification for hating Collingwood, fair enough, I'm not a massive fan myself. But if you're using that standard....what do you say about John Elliot? He is surely the biggest dickhead to ever be president of a club. I wonder if some here are actually old enough to remember what an obnoxious, boorish knob end he was.

He was the first thing (i.e. before 1999) that made me really hate Carlton.

It's interesting though, my younger brother, who is 15, hates Collingwood (and Hawthorn) more than Carlton. He is too young to remember 1999, or John Elliot, or the brown paper bags stuff.

But he isn't in the news constantly spouting his bullshit the way Eddie is. As much as I hate carlton, the fans that I've met have been normal-ish people who go for the wrong team. Collingwood fans on the other hand are some of the most offensive bogans in the country. A friend of mine (dees fan) was leaving a game early (dees were getting reamed) and a bunch of collingwood fans were swearing and spitting on the people as they left.

There would be beauty and ugliness in either result. I'd hate to see Carlton win and go to 17 before us, I hate their lack of culture backed by rich people who think they can paper bag their way to success and in my life time we've have more finals rivalry with Carlton than Collingwood, with the exception of 1990 Essendon and Collingwood have not been good sides in the same year.

My instinct made me vote Collingwood ......

However, if Carlton were to win against Collingwood the very first year that Malthouse was coaching Carlton the look on McGuire and Buckley's faces would be absolutely priceless!

Also continuing @Slattery_20's sentiment. When ever these to clubs play each other I cheer for al qaeda.

There are bogans in every supporter group though, including ours.

If anything, I've found personally that neither Collingwood or Carlton have the worst supporters at games- for me, that honour goes to our yellow sash brothers. For puerile abuse of opposition fans, I reckon I've had worse experiences at Hawthorn games than any other. In general, of the Victorian clubs, I find Geelong supporters the best behaved at games.

Yeah, I understand what you mean about Eddie, and the whole Eddie everywhere thing is annoying- I know even some Collingwood supporters get annoyed by it. But again, for me he doesn't even begin to compare to Elliot, who was just a downright crass pig.

It's not just about the supporters. It's about hating the club, and everything that it stands for.

Collingwood mean well, but they're indisputably a bunch of bogans.

Carlton, on the other hand, have deliberately chosen to be corrupt and immoral creatures. And they're a bunch of smug bastards.

Smug- that's the word that epitomises it for me.

Elliot encapsulated smug better than just about any other figure in sport I have ever seen. He was smug and crass, and by extension he made Carlton smug and crass.

In case I haven't made it clear, I really didn't (don't) like John Elliot.

Might want to repeat that for those of us playing at home ;)

Elliot was (and still is) a deadset moo.

Hawthorn fans, the most offensive bogans, IMO.
Collingwood fans are usually uneducated and harmless.

Where's that gif from Billy Madison?

The one with the crazy bus driver.

That's about how I feel when I think of Elliot and Carlton.
Carlton.

Elliott is one of the biggest muppets in existence. I hate him a lot more than anyone else involved in footy.

You raise a good point. He left Carlton in a very similar state to what he did a number of businesses. I think Carlton supporters would hate him more than non-Carlton supporters.

Yeah, I don't blame Carlton supporters for hating the guy. His actions ultimately came within a whisker of killing your club off- which, as much as I might hate Carlton, I would have hated to have seen.

The other thing is, it's him who, more than anyone, has given Carlton as a club the arrogant image- he must have created quite a strong negative impression if, ten years later, people still refer back to his behaviour and demeanour so frequently.

Definitely.
He just comes across as a very poor bloke tbh so regardless of ties to Carlton I dislike him..
As for this thread, hopefully Carlton and Essendon can step it up and start challenging the likes of Collingwood as premier sides in the comp again, it'd be great for footy and the rivalry would go up another notch or two.

Collingwood purely by number of premierships.
If they were both on 16 premierships it might be a tougher decision. I hate Carlton more, but I love watching Collingwood lose grand finals more, especially with the whole premiership's a cake walk thing and them having the worst record already: 15 out of 43. (I also have never had to sit through Carlton rolling us on GF day).
