By saying that Wallace tanked for the 2nd pick will mean that the incentive to gain one or two spots in the draft is enough for coaches to be tempted to tank.

So the incentive for teams to tank is still there today.

It wasn't for pick 2. It was a hope to get pick 1.

If Carlton won and Richmond lost that weekend (Carlton playing Melbourne) the ladder would have looked like:

14. Carlton (with 5 wins and out of PP)
15. Melbourne
16. Richmond

Whereas if both Carlton and Richmond won it would have been:

14. Carlton (5 wins, no PP)
15. Richmond
16. Melbourne

It had nothing to do with pick 2 - Carlton and Melbourne had to draw for Richmond to risk dropping to (or 4 due to the PP). It was a shot at pick 1.

Clutching at straws is all it is. As I and others have already explained the difference between what Melbourne did and what Freo did is astronomical. How can you claim a team that made finals that year tanked? It's bloody stupid.

A comparison with Richmond is laughable. If we have a game of tennis, I am not tanking if I don't try as hard as you and I lose. I am tanking if I deliberately hit balls out, in the comical fashion we saw in badminton at the last Olympics.

Tanking is tanking. It is possible that a team does it to a greater extent than another. Sanctions would be handed out accordingly.

Tanking, list management, bringing the game into disrepute etc. etc. has nothing to do with where a team finishes on the ladder. There's a rule for "not performing on your merits" ... but it doesn't mention ladder position.

This thing would just about disappear from the forum if they didn't keep trying to tie themselves in knots and change goalposts trying to defend the indefensible.

In previous articles they clearly stated that Bailey and others viewed the threat of the Zulu's coming to get them as a joke.

Which opinion do you think that the court will make, that a threat of the Zulu's coming to get them was an order to tank or it was a joke.

Cool derail. If they AFL rely on a zulu joke in court they don't deserve to run the most popular code in the country. On the other hand, that article hints at specific instructions from Connolly. It also has what looks like Connolly's response to being shown a bunch of witness statements ("It's a conspiracy dammit!!").

Just because there was a loophole in the laws of the ganes doesn't give you the right to cheat.

People have been charged with exploiting loopholes in the law/tax system and still get punished, you don't see them blaming the law for allowing them to do the wrong thing.

Think Melbourne and its supporters need to accept that they did the wrong thing abd not try to blame everyone and other clubs for their scum behaviour.

We've been through this. Just because someone can break the rules doesn't mean they should, it doesn't excuse any rule breaking and it most certainly doesn't mean the person or entity responsible for allowing the rule breaking to take place is responsible for the people who break the rules.

That's why they have rules: they are to be adhered to.
