Obviously we need a sarcasm font here.

It is just so absurd it beggars belief that anyone over 6 or 7 years old could even consider it may be a true account.
Dead set, I'm hearing you.

I find it equally disturbing that the thought of "the possibility of life on other planets" is still mocked in every day society by numbers that are far too many, while fairytales fed to us when we are children to keep us "good" and "moral" are still thrown about in the adult world, with hardly anyone batting an eyelid.

It's quite ridiculous.

Actually a very interesting article.
Would be interested to know peoples thoughts on it.

this article is FAR more honest than some 'creation science' pieces i've read before. particularly encouraging are the following paragraphs. you would do well to heed the message:

"But modern science reveals no evidence for a global flood in the past several thousand years. Is the validity of the Bible at stake? We could reject the findings of modern science and claim we are standing on God’s Word. But this would only serve to remove us from relevance to a world that takes science seriously. Claims of “creation scientists” supporting a recent global flood require setting common sense aside as discussed in the previous chapter, while serving to distort the role of science in understanding the earth. Calling upon believers to reject the underlying principles of geology simply because they lead to a history of the earth differing from a scriptural understanding is nothing but a cult practice. Let us rather search for answers that don't require a rejection of common sense and reality."

and:

"Dogmatically insisting on particular answers to these questions is a grievous mistake. The Scriptures do not permit such certainty. Attempting to sort through all of it requires speculation on our part."

seriously, do not look to places like answersingenesis.org and icr.org for your scientific information. they will heck your understanding of the natural world beyond repair.

You can't definitively claim that.

We can say with complete certainty that there was no world wide flood in the time that humans have existed. We can also say that there is no way that all land based animals could have fitted on a boat. If you were to use the claim that certain types of animal were on the boat and they've "diversified" (I know you loathe the term evolution) then the evidence of the massive diversity and the time that that would take would also rule out the Noah story being true.

Further to all of that the story of Noah is set past the beginning of agriculture, hence in the last 13 millenia. If you're further constrained by some young earth creationism then it happened within the last 6 millenia. It is impossible.

So now there WAS a flood of epic proportions, just not 'global'. But it was only 'inspired' by actual events. Either it happened or it didn't.

Yes it is a folklore story that may very well be based upon real events. So nothing to take seriously as any sort of fact though.

Of course it sounds ridiculous, but yet to be disproven. Anyway, just imagine, for a moment, IF the ark was ever found,
what would that do to your world view?

Yes the account in the bible has been absolutely refuted. Most of us don't write off the fact it may be a fantasy version of real events though.

Regards finding the boat, if the story was 100% correct in the bible then the boat would never have been lost. It'd be the size of a city.

Thank you that at least YOU had the time and respect to reply and give an honest feedback.

it does make a lot of sense to me as well. I think you have me mistaken as a dogmatic and blind apologist
where in actual fact, I am looking for answers as much as you.

Didn't read b/c I have **** all idea about geology other than the fact that plate tectonics exists. so wouldn't have a clue whether any claims made were accurate or not

Not that it's important, but Egyptian Royal Cubit - the measurement Moses would have used if he was doing the recording etc etc was about 52cm

How is that a dumb question?

Because a form of measurement is neither god's nor pagan. For example are you using god's words right now or pagan words? Of course if you were to be totally swept up in the fantasy that god created everything then all measurements are god's, due to him creating everything!

You were doing well at first!

i have posted these same thoughts before, which are: the amount of useful people and their professions that you HAVE TO SHIT ON to make scriptural events literal puts you in an untenable position if you live in the modern world.

'science' is not a conspiracy, and 'science' is not out to deny any gods existence; it just doesn't care despite what some fundies would have you believe. i'm pretty sure the truth of the universe wasn't settled in downtown palestine some 2000 years ago.
