Zoning won't happen because it would put the NSW and QLD teams at a significant disadvantage, Vic teams would be at a slight disadvantage and it would be awesome for SA and WA teams.

Also who would decide the top 10 picks, so that they can put this price on their head?

Not Queensland. They have the highest number of pre-teens playing the game in Australia. Ten years from now, Queensland will have a stronger junior side than SA.

Hendo plays his best as a loose defender. Everywhere else he is very hit and miss.
That should be the easiest role on the ground to replace.
Agree with this - makes him ideal candidate to trade. Can sell high on the back of a season av almost 20 poss a game, but should be relatively easy to replace

I hope this does not Include Bock and Davis has that was a unique situation.
Unique to who?

The Adelaide Football Club?

No it wasn't.

The problem is it isn't lightning. It is distance. It's on of the constraints of having a team outside the major population centres.
How is Adelaide more distant than Port?

Or Freo? Or West Coast? Or Gold Coast? Or GWS? Or Brisbane?

You know it's really funny how people say "Trade Douglas", "Trade Sloane"... do it while the price is high. Happy to screw over players that have shown loyalty and stepped up as players. But as soon as a player requests a trade something is rotten. Like WTF, we can screw over a player but a player can't request a trade? If a player wants to be traded, especially for family reasons and is upfront with the club, then the club should be able to work out a suitable trade .
If you don't see the difference between a wanted player walking out on the club, and a club actively trading out a player who they see as not integral to their structure I don't know what to tell you.

It's the Gunston and Tippett type situations where they feel free to hold the club at ransom that needs to be addressed. Its something the club has to be working with the AFL to solve. Players acting like free agents not only the trade process it undermines free agency.
These type of situations are not unique to us. There is no mechanism that specifically targets Adelaide therefore all clubs are equally vulnerable.

Yet we have been stung repeatedly.

I'm amazed that some people are so accepting of this and so keen to shift blame onto "the system" even though all clubs are operating under it.

if the rumors are true then Hendo doesn't want to leave the club. He needs to get back to his family.

Listing GC and GWS ruins your argument because they are shiny and new and throwing cash around. Can't even take the discussion seriously if you put them up as "why don't people leave these clubs".

The Bock and Davis situation, everyone cries out "oh why us, people hate the club and want to leave". Bullshit. Has anyone stopped to think that maybe we got hit because we produce good defenders? We made ourselves a target to raid by producing good players. And then they got big cash bonuses. Anyway, Bock probably didn't mind getting out because after the handbag incident some people found him on the nose and he wanted a fresh start.

I can see the difference between the two, but you can't call to screw loyal players around then get all haemorroidy about players requesting a trade.

Anyway other clubs have players go all the time. Pearce got sick of Port and took his FA chance and they chose not to retain him. Goddard left the Saints for better opportunity at a premiership(..... well that worked out for him....) Wellingham pissed off from the Pies back to WA. People leave clubs all the time and it is highly precious of us to say "we've been stung".

If Hendo is upfront about his reasons and allows the club to make a proper trade, why should it matter? It's only when the club gets screwed over that its a concern. What if we can improve the team? Hendo's form of late has to have improved his trade currency remarkable. I can't see why we couldn't do a deal that works in our favour.

You keep saying "repeadtedly". But in reality Gunston and Tippett are the ones that "wanted out" as it were. Maric wanted opportunity and had nothing to do with hating the club. Bock and Davis got large cash bonuses. So I fail to see the players that hate the club that want out except the two aschlocks who put themselves before the club.
And don't come back and say Hudson... surely that was so far in the past that it hardly relates to the club as it is today.

Troy Menzel anyone?
FFS ....is this going to be the quality of your future posts

OK i'll play .....
What do people think of;
Ollie Wines
Jaeger Omera
Jack Viney

What would people think if we offer for example a 700-800k contract for Martin?

We would obviously have to trade hard for example maybe offer Smack and Henderson plus a pick? Might not satisfy the Tigs, but IF something we offered did and we got Martin obviously we wouldn't get a Betts or a Cooney for example.

But what I want to know is if we would prefer a Martin only over maybe a couple of other trades (Betts/Cooney)?
Would we be better off? or do we trade more for needs eg. Small Forward?

Crouch, Sloane, Danger & Martin would pretty much be one of the best mids if not the best! Even though Martin plays up the ground a fair bit.

Thoughts?

I did address this in a post yesterday.

We should absolutely do our DD and see if he is open to the right offer. We need for him to nominate us.

If he is then make a huge , front loaded offer. We are not going to be able to satisfy them initially and so we must not only threaten psd , but offer enough to make it believable and that will be prohibitive to other sides . Either Richmond then take Henderson + maybe a second rounder we find somewhere , or he goes PSD.

The trick of it is that we have to be able to convince the player that psd will work. We would need to convince his management that we could make it work with an offer - 7-800 I would think .

But he is absolute gold and you would happily put all your eggs into that type of marquee recruitment

Please no. Trading with Richmond is the Adelaide equivalent of sticking it in a light socket

He did seem genuinely surprised by the assertion he wanted to go home, but then again why isn't that surprising?

May have been surprised that this rumour came from the public, Harper works on the assumption that the football public know nothing and have no idea, have you not heard him on selection night trying to "explain" decisions?

This is the same guy who's job it was to re-sign Gunston and yet was utterly shocked when he pissed off back to Melbourne. Probably half the reason Noble deals with this stuff now.

There is the whole Hinkley thing but we just have to better than that. Offer him a substantial contract, find a decent draft pick and send it up there. Just get it done

Gorringe having a break out game against the filth today. 22 poss, 6 mk and a goal. Must get him
unfortunately last weeks game was also excellent .......now getting harder to secure Gorringe :(

And people said whats so good about Gorringe

Wasn't he homesick but?

If he's homesick, form won't change that. If he was looking for a change to gain more opportunity, the last 2 weeks may change that.

However, our recruiting department needs to remind him of the opportunities he will gain by coming to us and the monetary value we can offer him.

If were able to get what's required to get Gorringe (2nd round pick?), where do people think that would leave Johnston. Based on today Gorringe (I know 1 game) he would be in our team round one. If everyone's fit that would mean the forward line would be Tex, Jenkins and Gorringe, all of whom can get up the ground, leaving Johnston in our reserves side. He's currency with us in this situation would likely peak at the end of this season, where teams need a KPF.

possible trades:

Brisbane: need a forward target so we straight swap him for Polec (if he wants to come) or a second round pick.

Bulldogs: second/ early third, could get us polec or gorringe in a three way trade.

Saints : see bulldogs

If Hendo does ask to go back to Victoria (I'd perfer him to stay, but currency would pretty high at the moment) Then dream senario (about as likely as Trigg winning back the supporters) would be the following trade with Saints.

Saints get Henderson and Johnston for pick 3
They both fit the age group that saints lack. Hendo takes over from Fischer who might only have 1 or 2 years left and Johnston becomes their second tall forward and we pick up Aish. Bare in mind they traded pick 12 for Tom Lee. We could throw in Mckernan as extra or a third round pick or decide to keep him as coverage.

A 254 page thread about recruitment at the end of 2013. Whats the bet we get sweet fcuk all and this has been all to a massive waste.
Cynic!

I keep telling you we'll get Nahas, maybe Sylvia, and Trigg will spin this as a great coup for the AFC.

I'd prefer we get Nachos and Salvia TBH.
