I like Hendo :(

I guess he already headed home to Victoria during the week.

Will be difficult to find a replacement once Reilly retires now, hopefully Shaw's up to it.

Maybe we could look at the un-signed Pearce Hanley?

Hendo is signed for the next 3 years, only signed a couple of months ago. Doubt he is going anywhere unless we get compensated well. I'm sure the club is sympathetic to family issues but there are always alternate solutions.

If he is genuinely homesick then he won't try and screw us by naming a club.

We hold all the aces in negotiations. We have him contracted for another two seasons so if they really want to drive a hard bargain we can hold him, watch his value increase and deal with the issue next year.

I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to find someone that's good at turning the ball over. :p

Big disappointment if true though, really liked what Henderson was bringing to that attacking half back flank role that Reilly wasn't, he was attacking the play a lot with his quick speed and running down the lines which is what you want. Reilly doesn't have the speed/confidence/football brain to be able to do it. If Henderson does stay, I really think Reilly will struggle to get that role back, thus struggle to make the best 22 (injuries permitting).

My understanding is that Hendo signed his 3 year deal prior to last years trade period

What the... why is that?

Where has your info come from?
Homesickness is what i've been told

It's from someone that knows Tex

Tex mentioned it to him not too long ago and i was told last night. I'm not 100% on this source, so its not a"done deal" he may still be here next year, but i'm leaning towards him leaving, as its not the first time i've heard the rumour

Hendo is one of my favorite players and it will be sad to see him go

However the positives are

1. His richness of form over the past 4-5 weeks will increase his trade value
2. He is still under contract so we can't be screwed over in a deal, otherwise it's no trade and Hendo has no other option but to remain at the club

Obviously disappointing if true. Not only would we lose a player that we've spent years developing from nowhere but it will be another player that's chosen to leave our club.

If we are such a good club, why do we continually lose players? Even Port in 5 years of shitness still managed to retain the players the wanted.

Knowing us we would have agreed on a trade 6 weeks ago for a 4th round pick

Don't compare us to Port. They retained players that were playing shit football.

So if a player from interstate needs to move back home for family reasons I don't see how we can do anything about that. It's one of the realities of people living away from family, situations change and no one can predict that.

Bullshit.

They kept Butcher when he played his only decent games and was in demand.
Trengove was also playing good footy when they kept him.
Boak was wanted by Geelong and had family reasons to go back home.

If a player wants to stay they stay.

Come on. Every club has multiple players fron interstate. If lightning keeps striking in the same place you have to question why. And no, bad luck isn't one of the possible reasons.
