Perhaps a few things worth considering;

Firstly, there is no content in that article. Some kind of investigation may lay behind it but in that form, it is difficult to discern much of any merit.

Secondly, I don't know what "medium or high level of supplement use" means. Surely to use that term it needs to be related to something; is that relative to the general population, relative to European cycling teams, what?

Thirdly, what is wrong with "lacking a single point of accountability". Like it or not, Essendon clearly had a single point of accountability (Dank), and how did that work out?

Finally, the AFL owe Essendon Football Club and its fans a full and open explanation on why you guys have been treated the way you were in relation to the rest of the clubs in this article. That is, I think this article is a crock but I think that the AFL need to explain to Essendon, in light of this article and the report that surely must sit behind it, what the differences are between the other clubs and Essendon. If the differences are not a chasm, this could bring down Vlad and the commission.

One last things, and I don't want to be an alarmist, but if you can believe this article, and I think that is a big if, then the AFL would be praying that Essendon players get infracted for using PED's because otherwise their whole kangaroo court is going to look pretty ordinary.
 
I've started a post on this so many times today and stopped, it has stirred up so many emotions, has me asking so many questions etc.

At the end of the day I would hate for any other supporter base to go through what we have been through, but I also want to know the truth about what is behind the article.

If the article is based on information saying 11 clubs took legal supplements that were close to "the line", then say so. If the article is based on clubs taking "potentially" illegal substances, then say so. If the article is something that is based on information and has been taken completely out of context, then say so.

If it is the middle of the 3 options above though, the AFL is duty bound to have some sort of investigation to look into 1. the governance at said clubs and 2. the supplements in question. If clubs are investigated, we have a right to know which clubs.

TBH if this story has any truth to it we should ether receive compensation or demand other clubs also cop a whack.

Sorry, but what are foamers? Is that the guys on the main board who are foaming at the mouth with fake rage? I see that term on here quite a bit and it does not strike me as a complementary term....

The posters on the HTB that have beaten the "guilty at all costs" drum since day 1, the posters that for the first time in their life think Caro, Smith and Co are respectable journalists (but only when writing on this topic) etc.

And yes, you only needed to go on the HTB and type "why is everyone assuming Essendon are guilty, why don't we wait until the investigation is finished and see what the results are" and yes, they will start foaming at the mouth and go into the type of psuedo rage that only true keyboard warriors are capable of.

The part that startles me.. is that it has taken till this point before the media started to pull the thread..

I, along with many others, posted back in Feb when this broke that "a lot of clubs will be scared".. knowing that this kind of supplement program WAS happening at almost all footy clubs..

The shameful way that the AFL and the AFL controlled media tried to paint this as an 'Essendon' issue rather than a league wide issue is disgraceful.

To kick us out of the finals is, and will always be, disgraceful.

To suspend a coach that did nothing more than delegate responsibility appropriate and not act like a control freak maniac.. is disgraceful.

The AFL can never give back our finals series for 2013.. or what might have been.. but it can have the decency to immediately come forward and admit they knew this was happening across the board, admit that they still have no evidence our players took anything illegal and admit that they have had to change the rules and guidelines to address the issue.

They should immediate suspend the fine.. suspend Bombers fine.. suspend the draft sanctions.. suspend Corcoran's suspension and suspend Hird's suspension.. pending the outcome of a FULL and FRANK investigation into each and every other club in the league.

I would add.. this should have been done at the start. a 'Ziggy' type report should have been conducted at every club, every club should have had its players interviewed by ASADA.. it should have been done properly.. rather than just prosecuting the one club that was stupid enough to try and do the right thing..

I know for a fact that supplement use is rife at at lease one other 'big' AFL club..

This whole thing rankles me..

*And yes I was referring to Saad being suspended for 2 years.. I still am extremely confident no EFC player will be suspended over this issue.

The Club and the AFL are working very effectively together at a senior level to improve the relationship damaged during the supplements dispute.
 
I'd like to know where the emotive language is in the Fairfax article? Where's imagery that they've previously conjured so effortlessly? Where are the calls for accountability apologies and heads to roll? The story broke on the Afl website at 6pm yesterday, where's the gutter journalism?

Surely this was a directive by Paul Little?

I highly doubt that he was actively advised by media/PR to do this.

It's just unnecessary and provide lots of fuel to a story that effectively wasn't one. Hell, I personally didn't even know Wilson made any comments last night.

I suppose thinking about it News Ltd probably won't see fit to bother publishing it in tomorrow's paper but an AAP report will probably appear on their websites tonight and the AFL website will probably link to the statement. The point is, I only know about these comments because Essendon have now told me about themm, and I'm sure plenty of others, both Essendon fans and non Essendon fans, are in the same position. That's the main result from this statement/rebuttal. jesus christ essendon just leave it alone
