The Australian Institute of Sport states that heat acclimatisation training should be conducted in a temperature range of 25-30C with matching humidity - these are just about ideal conditions over the ten days Port is in Dubai. That's why Dubai is ideal for this training. It's not dry heat like Adelaide nor excessively humid like Darwin for example. That's why Mick Malthouse's comment about training in Alice Springs while funny to idiots was ignorant. Hypocritical too coming from a guy who had access to the highest levels of sports science in the bloated football departments of the wealthy clubs he has coached.

Would be great if Cassisi proves us all wrong and has a ripper of a year.

I would like to see Cassisi.jpg and Cornes.avi have a great year, but the one player we would all like to see start performing is butcher.png.

Meant to say I like the official logo the club is using for the trip. I wonder if any heavy hitters from Renault's HQ in Paris has been invited down to have look.

I havent seen Redden in any of the pics so far. Does anyone know if he is over there?

I think I read somewhere he is doing light training at Alberton and will be 100% after Christmas. Could be wrong.

This is a bit rich having to respond to Eddie's mindless rants, anyway we have. Suck it up, we finished 5th where did the magnificent pies finish? Think Eddie's jealous because his beloved collingwood didn't think of going to Dubai- nwwwa.

Eddie McGuire's criticism of poorer clubs' spending is unwarranted, says Power's Peter Rohde

PORT Adelaide remains comfortable with its overseas trip to Dubai in the face of questioning from a wealthier club and maintains it is one of the most frugal football departments in the land.
Collingwood president Eddie McGuire on Tuesday questioned how clubs that are on financial assistance packages from the AFL could justify spending the money to head overseas under the guise of equalisation, which includes the Power.
But Port football operations chief Peter Rohde told The Advertiser the club would probably spend more money by preparing in Australia, where it could not have asked its players to pay for their own air fares.
What's more, Rohde said the AFL was fully aware of how the club spent its money.
The club estimates the trip in total would cost around $200,000, but once the players' air fares had been taken into account, it would only set the club a touch over $100,000.
"Overall, we operate on a pretty tight budget,'' Rohde said.
"And the decisions we make on our footy spend - we're still in the lowest quartile of clubs.''

Because Collingwood are never given any beneficial treatment by the AFL at all  Suck it up Eddie, Collingwood are just as dependent on AFL assistance in their own way.

I've seen this argument trotted out by supporters of other football clubs and it is yet again another example of general ignorance. When the AFL twisted the sanfl's arm into returning some of the money we make for them it was on the proviso that it is used to strengthen on-field performance not retire debt. Being strong on-field gets people back to the club to watch games buy memberships and merchandise and is the sustainable way to retire debt and build profit. Pumping the money straight back into debt-retirement is short sighted and unsustainable. Before long you will be back where you were before and getting worse.

Port has strengthened its football department and the club's world class fitness coach has set out a program to make us competitive on-field. The trip is significantly self-funded and the benefits of this type of training are recognised internationally by sports scientists. In addition it is creating links with international sporting bodies and potential business partnership and sponsorship avenues.

Give a football club handouts to spend without changing anything and it will survive for one year, then want more handouts every year.

Give the football club handouts to spend on football departments, marketing, winning games and soon there are no more handouts.

Typical Eddie being Eddie. Facts are Collingwood are gifted much of their profit by the high profile games (ANZAZ exclusivity gives them a boost of what... $500k-$1m alone??) for TV ratings and higher sponsorship dollars that other clubs don't get access to.

Even if Collingwood were bottom of the ladder and GWS were top... do people really believe GWS would get more high profile games than Collingwood?

Eddie is taking the viewpoint that these clubs are wasting $$ on football dept. spend and that is why they are struggling... when it is more due to about their [in]ability to earn extra revenue IMO.

Jasper's Diary - Day 2
http://www.portadelaidefc.com.au/news/2013-11-27/jaspers-diary-dubai-day-2

"On arrival at the Dubai Sports City we prepared for training and had a team meeting led by Ken Hinkley. Ken’s main message was that as individuals and as a group, we have to make every second count both in football and in life. We have an opportunity to build towards something special at this club but it just won’t happen without plenty of hard work and being disciplined in doing all the little things really well. He reminded us of the gut-wrenching feeling after we lost to Geelong in the semi-final and encouraged us to remember that across pre-season as we strive to improve in all areas."
