The Australian Institute of Sport states that heat acclimatisation training should be conducted in a temperature range of 25-30C with matching humidity - these are just about ideal conditions over the ten days Port is in Dubai. That's why Dubai is ideal for this training. It's not dry heat like Adelaide nor excessively humid like Darwin for example. That's why Mick Malthouse's comment about training in Alice Springs while funny to idiots was ignorant. Hypocritical too coming from a guy who had access to the highest levels of sports science in the bloated football departments of the wealthy clubs he has coached.

MoreEddie McGuire's criticism of poorer clubs' spending is unwarranted, says Power's Peter Rohde
PORT Adelaide remains comfortable with its overseas trip to Dubai in the face of questioning from a wealthier club and maintains it is one of the most frugal football departments in the land.
Collingwood president Eddie McGuire on Tuesday questioned how clubs that are on financial assistance packages from the AFL could justify spending the money to head overseas under the guise of equalisation, which includes the Power.
But Port football operations chief Peter Rohde told The Advertiser the club would probably spend more money by preparing in Australia, where it could not have asked its players to pay for their own air fares.
What's more, Rohde said the AFL was fully aware of how the club spent its money.
The club estimates the trip in total would cost around $200,000, but once the players' air fares had been taken into account, it would only set the club a touch over $100,000.
"Overall, we operate on a pretty tight budget,'' Rohde said.
"And the decisions we make on our footy spend - we're still in the lowest quartile of clubs.''
Because Collingwood are never given any beneficial treatment by the AFL at all
Suck it up Eddie, Collingwood are just as dependent on AFL assistance in their own way.
Give a football club handouts to spend without changing anything and it will survive for one year, then want more handouts every year.
Give the football club handouts to spend on football departments, marketing, winning games and soon there are no more handouts.
