There are many that share your view, despite never having ever given the league a proper chance.

What is so bad about the league?

I'm not going to get into an argument about it, the quality is very poor, decision making is horrible, technique isn't very good at all (bar a few), there are a lot of things wrong with it.

Paul Ince almost certain to be sacked and Tom Ince will follow him out the door. Should go very cheap, Monaco are favourites.

Hope Monaco overpay ridiculously for him. We get 1/3 of the transfer fee.

I really enjoy the a-league. Was extremely happy that the Heart won on the weekend, first time in almost a year. It felt good and made me happy.

Was at the game (Jets supporter) and even I had to admit it was nice to see your long suffering fans enjoying the win! Great for the game.

The A League isn't perfect but its what we have and I think as football fans we all need to support the game locally. The stronger it gets, the better the quality will get. :thumbsu:

Apparently Swansea offered around 4m for him but he could just sit out his contract (expires in 6 months) and get some huge wages in the summer

He'll probably just follow Paul to his next club, he's a little Daddy's boy who won't do anything without his approval.

It's a league that is still in its relative infancy taking place on the other side of the world in a non-footballing stronghold, without anywhere near the money of most other leagues worldwide. What do you expect?

The games has made massive progress in this country - the standard of the league is improving all the times, as is the calibre of player it is attracting. It is a viable pathway into the better leagues for young players. And it is accessible to everyone.

There are a lot of "Eurosnobs" (not referring to you specifically) who dismiss the A-League because it is the "cool" thing to do - despite these people never having been to a match or if they have, never having tried to give the league a proper go.

If people like you were a little bit more open-minded on the matter then you might find that the league is not really so bad after all.

Lol you say you're not referring to me when saying Eurosnobs but go on to say if people like me. It's one or the other, make your mind up.

And I do watch the A-League, but I struggle.

I said that I was not referring to you specifically; I meant that there is a large number of "Eurosnobs", of which you appear to be one - not that you are the only "Eurosnob". Sorry if that wasn't clear.

You struggle to watch because you go into it with the preconceived idea that you are watching a "joke" league - so you will see a player make a mistake and there will be a confirmation bias at play.

a couple of mil over m'vila, who would provide a backup/challenge to lucas, is just plain stupidity

salah isn't as important, but again, a couple of mil? come on. it's liverpool, not crystal palace. just pay the man
Agreed. It totally annoying. If it's literally 2 million a piece. That's a combined 4 million to get two guys in the door. If we cant afford that then we're doing it wrong.

Frustrating.

It's actually nine years old, but good post.

How many people who criticise the A-League as a "joke" league have ever been to a game? People need to get over their European snobbery and get to a game or two - they might even enjoy it.

I'll tentatively agree with Cruyff insofar as I have been to several which I hated, but they were several years ago and I agree the standard is much better now. I'll wait off another year or so then give it a go. Do want to see Garcia play though so might try and get to a derby game.

A League is dire. Cant watch it. Football isnt football without a packed stadium and some atmosphere. No teams in the A League pack out stadiums. Then the quality of football is like League 2 standard.

It's horrible.

I know you're overseas at the moment, but there is one more Sydney derby this season on the 8th of March at the Sydney Football Stadium - not only would you (assuming he's fit) get to see Garcia but also probably Del Piero. :thumbsu:

About a week after my birthday, would be perfect, I'm back in a couple of weeks. Will have to look into getting a ticket. :thumbsu:

A League snobs really give me the shits.

Totally agree. I don't expect A League football to be top level quality. It provides a respectable level of football played by decent footballers giving it a go with a smattering of young talent. I don't get anyone who won't watch it because it isn't up to EPL standards. I get down and follow the local soccer teams in my area occasionally. It would be stupid of me to say "this soccer isn't up to the standards of the A League and struggle to watch it".

You're either a football fan or you aren't. And true football fans will follow the game at its highest level in Australia no matter how good / bad it is.

What? Melbourne Victory and WSW have packed stadiums nearly every week and the atmophere is better than most of the stuff in Europe.

Mate I highly doubt you've ever even seen a league 2 match. The A-League will probably give about 7 or 8 players to WC squads, it's improving every single year and gaining more and more support. People forget football is Europe's number one sport, in Australia it's behind Aussie Rules, League and Union, competing with Netball and Tennis.

I also completely disagree that football isnt complete without a packed stadium and loud fans, it's about a ball being kicked around between 22 men, nothing more.

Disagree. Im football mad, completely football mad. But if the passion isnt there, it isnt there. You cant pretend. I love LFC with every fibre of my being. Perth Glory? I couldnt name anyone who plays for them.

Simple as that really. Just because I love football doesnt mean I have to love the A-League.

Eh... if the quality is poor. I just cant watch it. Football isnt the most exciting of sports. It's why it struggles to get off the ground in some countries like Australia and the US if it isnt already a way of life like in Sth America and Europe.

If your shit, you can only take so many sideways passes and shanks into the crowd.

The quality isn't that poor. I'd rate it around League 1 standard with teams like Brisbane and West Sydney being competitive in the lower half of the championship.

Fair enough some fans don't have the passion yet for their local football teams, that's understandable. But quality of football simply cannot be a reason, it will never be the EPL and everyone who watches it needs to understand that.

And what of lower league football in England? Do all of their fans say I can't be bothered anymore because nobody has the skills of Luis Suarez?
