I always listen to the home commentators, even when the team I support plays away from home. I do this because I know enough about my own team and want to know a bit about the other players on the other team (being that you may only play against the other team a couple of times a year).

All the commentators are bias towards the home team. I think we can all deal with that, but some commentators are lol bad. So...

List your 5 Best and 5 Worst Home Commentators in the NBA to listen to in order.

Put them in order and when we got enough we will tally them up to see who the best and the worst are (top place gets 5 votes, second 4 votes etc). If you don't listen to a lot of games just put ones you want on the list (e.g. if you only have 2 on the list then 1st will get 5 votes, second will get 4 votes and no other votes will be allocated).

I got my lists, and I'll post it later.

Thread is also good for a rant and evidence obviously.

It also keeps this stuff out of the weekly thread.

Go!

Have said for years that the Bucks' commentators (Jim Paschke and Jon McGlocklin) are the worst in the league by an absolute street. Biased as hell and have no enthusiasm whatsoever. They're the biggest bitches when their team is playing shit too.

Warriors, Nets and Orlando are among the best. Kings, Cavs, Spurs, Clippers among the worst.

Funk and King are pretty bad for the Bulls.

Stacey spends way too much time trying to generate sound bytes and Neil is just ... I dunno, blind. I have never confused Taj for Boozer (or vice versa), Funk does it at least once a game. He's bad with the team he actually covers, he's atrocious with opposition teams.

I love the rockets commentators, but if I supported any other team, I'd probably want to die listening to them. Very rarely admit any mistakes and only really compliment the other team's players if they're one of the best in the league.

The Kings commentators are great, fun loving and upbeat, "if you don't like that you don't like Kings basketball"! :D Then again I don't pay much attention to what they say in the way of compliments for the opposition.

I like Indiana's commentators after watching the Suns and Pacers today, were very analytical and talked a lot about Phoenix as they held them off in the latter stages of the game :thumbsu:

Cavs commentators suck, they really suck.

Apart from that I don't mind many of the others, except Tom Heinshon (spelling)

Cue peternorth posting the Kobe game winner against Milwaukee to further amplify the point about the shit Bucks commentators.

For me

Top 5 best in no order

Clippers: more for Ralph lawyer than mike smith, bingo! Wedgie! Oh me oh my! Lawyers law!
Warriors: co commentator is fairly balanced and detailed
76ers: I like the play by play guy
Knicks: mike breen brings that national tv feel
Nets: another professional crew

5 worst

Cavs: kyrie this kyrie that bleh
Rockets:
Spurs
Pacers
Portland and celtics tied: both with the old guy special comments (tommy h is more than an old guy I know) but they need a refresh

Other good crews
Kings
Lakers: don't mind them now that lakers are crap!
Miami: court announcer maybe makes them sound good!
Dallas
Utah: haven't heard much of them this season, but Matt harping does go into a bit of detail from memory not all homer calling

Favourites:

Warriors - all round good
Philadelphia - all round good
Knicks - Mike Breen is great and I enjoy Walt Frazier and his rhymes
Bucks - pretty unbiased and intelligent
Orlando
Clippers - always fun to listen to although Mike Smith says something ridiculous each game like 'That's Blake's best play... EVER'

Can't stand:

Rockets - the main play by play guy has an annoying voice and im not a big fan of Clyde 'you gotta dunk that' Drexler
Bulls - Like Stacey King, dislike Neil Funk
Utah
Boston - mainly the old grouch
Cavaliers - Fred McLeod is okay but cant stand Austin Carr

But let it be known that there is no worse commentator than... Dick Stockton

Best:
Knicks: Clyde & Mike Breen. Class.
Nets: Marv Albert and/or Ryan Ruocco normally makes for a quality call.
Minnesota: Are homer-ish but I always find good to listen to.
Orlando: I think my mob do well though firing Matt Goukas has brought a noticeable drop this year.
Toronto: Seems really professional and while they barrack hard I like the combo.

Worst:
Cavs: "Deep in the Q!" Nuff said.
Bulls: Neil Funk can go entire quarters calling a players by the wrong name.
Rockets: Horrific Homers and gimmicky.
Charlotte: It's the refs fault or they get a bad bounce every few minutes it seems.
Phoenix: I haven't listened to them this year but I remember hating them so if I watch a Suns game it's always the away selection. They may have improved.

I don't find Boston that bad. It's better than others with gimmicks and stuff and the guy opposite Tommy isn't that bad.

Indy are also good but just pipped by Toronto.

Cleveland's are probably the most rank amateur - can feel like you are watching the WWE at times.

A couple of times I've cringed listening to the Memphis commentators - basic stuff, such as not knowing much about the opposing side's players. I'll cop some homerism, but ignorance is a cardinal sin.

Matt Harpring is/was God-awful on the Jazz team (does he still do colour for them?)

Eddie Johnson on the Phoenix broadcast is one whom I've grown to like - has a pretty wry sense of humour. Minny's are pretty good, clean and no-fuss.

I'm probably over-exposed to him, but IMO Joel Meyers is one of the best play-by-play guys in the league - great broadcast voice, very knowledgeable, pretty non-partisan. I'm surprised the Lakers let him go, but their loss is our gain.

Minny commentators I find to be a bit biased but pretty good as a whole. Celts suck and I think Clips commentators aren't as exciting as they could be. I love the OKC commentators, but that's only because of their "bingo bango bongo" Perk call. Sac-Town I really like as well.
