Haven't seen much, doesn't mean we won't. Physical attributes rather than ability got him rookied according to some in the know at his TAC club.

Which is true with pretty much every kid at or above 195cm who is rookied. If he had the game to go with the athletic talent he would've been a first round pick!Haven't seen much, doesn't mean we won't. Personally I've often wondered why there aren't more significant contributions to academia, science or the arts from AFL players once they finish kicking a ball around. I mean if they can lock down those 2nd and third phases of football clearly they are capable of greater things.
LOL. j/k. It's football. It's not hard. If you're struggling with learning tactics ("score more goals than the opposition") then you must have something wrong with you.
Anyway re: Stynes... Despite all the amazing work he has done, I'm pretty sure for a while he was a ruckman at Melbourne football was his profession (and ergo, football was "professional" in his "area")
. Suppose that is why Melbourne are so good because they spent so little time on their football department. I also doubt football was that professional for the vast majority of the 90s compared to todays standards. Watch a game from the 90s and see how it compares to modern football.Log in to remove this Banner Ad
Lol jokes it's football why do we even need coaches, assistant coaches, development coaches, sport scientists and analytical coaches since we just need to kick more goals then the opposition.

Probably the shittest post I've seen on Bigfooty, including the Bay.Personally I've often wondered why there aren't more significant contributions to academia, science or the arts from AFL players once they finish kicking a ball around. Ok Einstein. The four coaches you listed are required to teach the animals to chase a ball.
The sports scientists are there because we're (unfortunately) not allowed to use drugs, and this is one alternative to ensuring that the aforementioned animals can run fast and recover from injuries so they can keep chasing balls more.
FYI While the "Sports scientists" need an education to perform their duties, the people who are actually playing the sport don't. You remember that Fevola guy, right? Absolutely dominated for your team a couple of years ago. Despite this, he actually couldn't count to fifty. This isn't speculation by the way, I know this for a fact.
I would have thought the reason that Melbourne was "so good" was their players? But yes, obviously the quality of the football department matters.
This is completely irrelevant. You said that Stynes was not professional, and I am telling you that Stynes profession was football. Also, pretty sure in the 90's there were still coaches, assistant coaches, sport scientists, and development coaches. Football has changed that much in 15 years.

Classic tall poppy syndrome and his career has barely started
Laugh at the people using Fridays game as a indication of anything when North's midfield was just insipid.

I studied sport science for a few years so it always feels odd when you see guys like this are still out there.
Shit post. Jim Stynes played in a far simplier time of football where the tactics were incredibly easy to learn. Learning about structures/processes, 2nd and third phases of football etc isn't easy. Football wasn't even professional in Jim Stynes area.
He was playing on Lukas Markovic for at least 8 of those shots. As soon as Young was switched onto him, he didn't get near the ball, and then for some inexplicable reason we switched Markovic back onto him. He dominated a VFL standard defender, so I wasn't overly impressed. We did see something special in his first game, but the fact is that he's far too overhyped, and so people mark him far too harshly. You didn't see anything special first hand when he had ten shots at goal against your mob in his second AFL game?
Kade Simpson first three games featured a combined 0 total disposals overall. The thread is very premature and I'd consider it tall poppy syndrome with the media build up.
You were more impressed by his 3 touch game than by his 19 touch game? That's an odd one. Lots of VFL grade defenders ran out for AFL clubs last year, not many had opponents taking 10 scoring shots in a match on them. I can only watch that game through my blue and white glasses but Maj's combination of having both strength in a contest, explosiveness off the mark and speed on the lead seemed special to me. BTW two of his goals were on Roughead. He was playing on Lukas Markovic for at least 8 of those shots. That mark to crash the pack and slot that goal looked special to me. As far as that game, I know for a fact that those ones kicked on Roughead were not Roughead's fault, due to free kicks, or the fact that he was trying to cover someone else/space and no one was helping him to cover Majak. You were more impressed by his 3 touch game than by his 19 touch game? Could you believe I was in line buying a ticket when that happened? Got a membership this year so hopefully something like that will never happen again...That mark to crash the pack and slot that goal looked special to me. His speed is good but not special I think. But I'm very impressed about the way he attacks the ball in the air and isn't afraid to take a hit or crunch a pack. Even against the Hawks he did break a few packs. I think that is probably his best footy trait so far. If he's good enough to ruck as the second ruck (both hit outs and around the ground work) then he'll be decent up forward even though he'll have quiet weeks when he plays on smart defenders or good teams. You were more impressed by his 3 touch game than by his 19 touch game? Having a back up ruckman play FB is probably also part of Roughead's problems. That mark to crash the pack and slot that goal looked special to me. As a junior he played full back, until he got a growth spurt. And when you're tall in a junior league, you get played in the ruck. Also, Scarlett said he has the potential to be one of the best KPD's in the league. But yeah, he's just a back up ruckmanHaving a back up ruckman play FB is probably also part of Roughead's problems.
