Are we getting ahead of ourselves

Hmm its a difficult question - im with you when you say beating collingwood at etihad will be a huge win...dont underestimate the pies this year.

Id be very happy if we were right in the mix for top4/ top 2, especially given our draw against more of the better sides.

Playing the top teams twice is to our advantage. I just wish we had have got Sydney in Perth but we will still roll them over there.

In part because they are like 8 point games but importantly because it means playing them at Subi.
It has been a long time since we played Hawthorn and Sydney in Perth.

I agree to a certain extent- why do you say its important that we play them at subi though.

Are you saying that the better sides are playing us in perth now and the weaker teams over east due to our tougher draw? Because yes i agree that is an advantage.

To be the best you need to play the best
I cant think of any side winning a premiership after making the finals with a soft draw

Funny you mention that - had a quick look around the net and i agree. What premier sprung to mind initially that could fit the mould was hawthorn in 08...turns out they finished 2nd and were worthy of that position.

I did find it funny that a Ross Lyon coached st Kilda won the pre-season cup that year. Turns out he does care when he wants to.

More or less but playing Hawthorn in Tasmania is a bloody long trip for us and makes it very difficult to beat them.
As for the others a return bout at our home ground gives us an advantage for a change and means they have to travel more. Plus playing our major competitors for top 4 spots, become 8 point results. Win both games is the goal.
We have had no problem accounting for Geelong over here in recent years and we know we can beat Sydney over there and at Subi. I can't remember the last time we played Hawthorn in a H&A game at Subi.
We are as good as any team in the comp now and great to play the best twice in a season.

If we are in the Top 6, and we play the other 5 once each, and the split is 1 home, 4 away - that is tough. But also possible given that we very rarely play Hawthorn or Sydney in Perth, for example.

If we are Top 6 and play 3 of the top 5 twice, and the other two just once (let's say away) - that is a pretty tough draw, but we are looking at 3 home, 5 away. Much more manageable.

Means
a) better chance to pull points off other top sides
b) better overall record, because of more equitable H/A balance against the top sides
c) more practice against the best

Just once since 2009 in the H+A season, in 2011.

Also played the EF.

Interesting, we played them 2005, 06, 07, 08 and 09 here.

We only get a few games at Eddies hat this year(RTB favourite).Lets hope he has got a good game plan sorted out for bigger expanses like Subi and the MCG.
Good to see us have a few games at the G too! The last team that played us there before Hawthorn tore us a new one.
But to be so close yet 3 goals too far!
This year it is.

Edit: BuT looking thru the vine their is a few Freo posters that (make) are ahedic heads of themselves

It all depends if things go our way with injuries I believe.
Oh to be one of the Sydney clubs and have 3 or 4 high quality tall forwards.
GWS in particular will be rocking up at the next couple of trade weeks going oh yeah you want tall forward? hows that Fyfe guy going?

As long as we don't do what Melbourne did.

Made the Grand Final in 2000 and then finished 11th the year after.

They were about to climb through the premiership window when suddenly it slammed on their fingers, never to be opened again.

Well, I have to say I prefer being an underdog and normally try to keep my expectations low. But recent sucess has really blown up expectations. Can't see us miss finals, but a premierhsip or even back to back GFs will a titanic effort. Top for are probably realistic expections whre we can't speak of a failure. Everything below is one. Many teams could play finals without surprising to many people so a bigger change to the top 8 is surely possible...

Havings aid that I fear I and and lot of others could really get disappointed...
