^ that is awesome.

This fresh burst of cold morning weather is great - so many people now doing indoor classes and/or not going to the gym. Once 7am hits, barely anyone around.

Some guy walks in, starts doing 1/3 squats (wouldn't be fair to even describe them as half squats) then starts ranting about politics at some other poor guy who was just in there to workout and keep to himself (like most of us in the gym in the mornings). Guy gave no real answers (did give a look as in "shut up and let me workout") but 1/3 squat guy just didn't get the message.

Everyone else gets it, no chatters at the gym, this bloke just didn't have a clue.

After the earlier advice I workout with inear headphones now - thank God no more "Life is a rollercoaster trapped in a maze" BUT I feel rude when the regulars come up to talk to me.

What a joke.. watch out, any gym goers, better not spot your mate or speak a word about his form.

She must have explained to the person who came up to her that it was her son - can't work out they would have that information and still terminate her membership - way to kill your business with a PR disaster!

well said.

wonder what the son's thinking. i take it he's quite popular at school, and now there's a gym at home what's the bet his mates will all be wanting to be spotted by the mum

What annoyed me about gyms? A lot of people who just like looking at themselves in the mirror was my main annoyance.

However, the thing that really pissed me off was I had done my workout and it was getting late in the evening, most people had gone home. I was in the pool just relaxing before a shower and then home. In walked an attractive female looking rather fit and spectacular in her gym gear. She claims she wanted to use the pool but had left her bikini at home and asked if I'd be offended if she swam in her underwear.

I'm no idiot, I say "not at all", so she strips off everything but her panties and jumps into the pool. My face would have looked a little like the picture in my avatar. Anyway, we start chatting, I'm trying to pretend not to notice what was on display, and she suggests we grab a meal and a couple of drinks. I'm thinking, "I don't know how I did it, but I've cracked it". So we get to a pub, having a meal, everyone's looking at me as if to say, "HE'S with HER?". Next minute, she starts trying to sell me a contract for her to be my personal trainer.

That really pissed me off. Probably would have worked on most guys, but I said I wasn't interested in a personal trainer. Funnily enough, she seemed to lose interest in me and the evening came to an abrupt halt after that. Stuff the gym.

if she became your PT, she could be seen as your prostitute

personal trainers getting their clients to hit the pads, but instead of using their feet, they stand there and slap the pads whilst the trainer slaps the gloves. insulting to the sport and ridiculous to watch. wrist injuries waiting to happen.

Is it a Planet Fitness franchise? Wasn't clear from that. I know from other stories Planet Fitness is a disgrace. Don't lift heavy, don't be too good looking or you'll 'intimidate' their clients who are overweight. All gyms are happy with clients who pay then don't turn up, but they actively discourage anyone who may motivate people to exercise.

One mistake people make about chain gyms is thinking that theyre about fitness.

I made myself a custom pair of in-ear earbuds to get over the shit that's played on the PA. Worth the effort.

The night shift guy at the gym I go too is a cool guy - why ****ing NOVA??

i was doing incline dumb bell chest press last night. music/video was playing. then i thought about this thread and complaints about gym music.

then i thought, i never notice the music as i am focused on training and isolating muscle groups accordingly.

so i type this with a question. what music should be played at gyms?

Anything but mindless pop music.

I'd rather listen to classical violins than whatever disposable, vacuous shit happens to be getting flogged on radio that week. That stuff saps my will to live.

90% of people have no body awareness and are unable to dissociate hip movement from lower back movement. Deadlifts are certainly not a good exercise for everyone as they are shockingly detrimental if done without good technique.
There are so many lumbar disc issues just waiting to happen. My suggestion would be to include them, but work on form for a good month or so, wiht little more than just the bar. You have to learn the hip hinge and to dissociate hip and lumbar movement, and barely anyone masters this before loading up the bar.

most folks are more concerned about admiring themselves and their working muscles in the mirror rather than technique & form.

I shunned the mirror years ago. I used to turn around and face away from them. Makes you much more aware of what position your body is in and what it's doing - particularly for compound and olympic lifts.
