I really hope you're wrong on Sheridan and it was an off day with fixable deficiencies.
Slyvia sounds as though he's regressing although he was doing just the same shit when I watched him.Maybe a rightoff which is a pity but if the milk's spilt,wipe the floor;we were warned.You'd have to think his contract would be base plus incentives?
Won't be the first time high risk yielded no reward.

Absolutely. Buddah has no chance of passing his skinnies, Jesus barely ever gets out of a walk, even if it is on water, and neither of them own a pair of boots.

Maybe not the jolly Chinese version, but the Indian guy nearly starved himself to death at one point so he would have passed with flying colours.

No doubt. However, I am hoping beyond hope that there are also some KPI's that have to be met or it triggers a get-out clause.

Yeah that would be almost a certainty,that side of things is very controllable;but even if we somehow dropped the ball there(which I'm sure we would not have)he's not gonna cost more than a light-tower at Cockburn.
They'll do all they can to change him first but I can't offer any advice on how.

Griffin was outstanding. For a really big bloke to come back like this after a knee recon, at his age, and still go ballz out to EVERY contest is a testament to his character. Colin Sylvia should be inspired to play along side him. But no.

I knew Moller would be better off going back to reserves although some who saw kicked 4 goals but didn't watch the game didn't agree. He cannot be effective in the ruck at present for Peel and only not a liability if played deep forward. Having him out allows Tabs to play closer to goal as well as Apeness coming in now who will improve. Also really glad to hear A. Pearce playing well. He was talking to our clubs kids during the North Melbourne game and he came to AFL late having played rugby till about only a few years ago so really good sign he understands the game as well as he does. Coaching issues only confirmed to my mind though - needs to be fixed ASAP.

Clarke Vs Griff Vs 211 selection conundrum looms. I would consider resting 211 against say Adelaide after the bye and playing Griff and Clarke and Bradley. Based on that game then decide if we want to play three rucks or two + 2 talls and if two rucks who we prefer. Bit concerned about Griff and 211 in the same team for mobility so need to see how Griff goes. Clarke showing really good signs last couple of games so couldn't drop him ATM.

Yep,there is no way griffo will be replacing Clarke's position in the side,not with Clarke showing signs of actually becoming a tall target deep in our forward line.

I was sitting in the visitors stand just behind Peel's interchange bench.

Early in the game Josh Simpson was taking the kick in after a West Perth behind and stepped on the line when he kicked in. The umpire pinged him and Josh had a massive dummy spit and was dragged as a result.

I think it was Simon Lloyd (The guy dressed like an NFL coach with the head set and cap on) grabbed him by the arm when he came off and gave him a stern talking to.

This had an effect as Joshy played a blinder in the 2nd quarter before disappearing again for the rest of the game.

Bushy was right about Tommy Sheridan. His stats looked great but he had zero impact on the game. Griff, Kepler and Morabito did well, whilst Tabs was good at a WAFL level standard only.

Ibbo and Menegola were okay, whilst Apeness was as rusty as on old shed door.

When the 2nd quarter started I heard a familiar voice behind me. I turned around to see RTB and Michael Prior sitting right behind me.

Michael left at 3/4 time (probably thinking they had won) and Ross sat by himself for the last quarter.

Ross checked the stats regularly on his phone and watched the game in silence. As soon as the siren went though, Ross stormed out of the ground in disgust. A few Cardies supporters spotted him and started yelling expletives at not only Ross, but all of the Peel reserves players and support staff.

It was a quality performance by a bunch of mainly bitter and twisted older people, who were obviously unhappy about the rise in utility prices and public transport fares in the state budget.

What a sour lot of old scrotes they are up there.

I like the idea, but am concerned that both Griff and Sandi are best played as 70%+ on-ball. These days sides just don't have the luxury of leaving a spare ruckman on the bench to act as relief.
That means we'd need Griff and Sandi spending significant time resting up forward, and Pav, Clarke + resting ruckman is too big and awkward up front for us to play the way we want to.

Over the course of a preseason Pitt went from a bloke that seemed to be worried about contact to a guy that would throw himself headlong at the footy a couple of times a game.

He put on a couple of kg over that pre I think, but not a heap. Must have been working on the mental side though.

Time for kirky to get a hold of crozier and shero, and try to do the same with them. Duff needs another rev up too, based on what he dished up against port.

Are you saying that Alex came to AFL late having played rugby up until recently? That description fits Apeness to a tee.

Seems hard to believe that Alex came from a rugby background, based on his physique. Thought he had a soccer background (like Grey).

Big fan of Grey also. Though still looked a little raw with his kicking from what I saw. Hands are pretty good, and his footwork and evasion is absolutely first class... so skillful from those perspectives. Still a bit of work to do on his kicking from memory.

Terrific attitude and attack, especially for a bloke with a soccer-heavy background though.

EDIT: Google checked... A. Pearce's elite background was cricket (not soccer, as I'd thought). Did play local footy apparently.

He apparently was a good contested player as a junior. Could be that he's been used in an outside role for a while and has lost the taste for the contested stuff. Which is a little weird as I'd read on WAFL Watch that he'd been playing as an inside mid for stretches over the last month or so.

May need a kick in the a*se and a reboot.

I don't think its a huge worry. He has played some good games of WAFL this year, it's not like he should be in the delist basket.

Bottom line, even if you are not interested and being a seagull, doing it 32 times in a game is not a bad effort.

I can still see him being a permanent 22 player in a couple of years. Imo he has the most upside of the 2011 crop and still looks likely to get there.

Well folks, I kept a watch on him all game and here's my take on things with Col.

He's got a great tank and he knows how to read the play very well. He follows the game through the centre of the ground keeping one eye on his man and one eye on the play. He covers the ground extremely well without any gut running what so ever, plus gets into the right position around the stoppages.

You really notice his experience and ability to read the play if you just watch him like a hawk for a quarter like I did. He is also a great tackler when he wants to be.

So where's it going wrong for Col I hear you all ask?

He just glides around like a Mallard duck at Lake Monger waiting for someone to throw him a piece of bread or a Burger Ring that's accidentally fallen on the pavement.

It's a bloody shame, because he shows some serious class at times.

He won't be selected based on current effort and possessions, but on experience and potential he just might.

Shero played a few games as the sub last year, and the team at that stage could play with a few passengers, and still squeeze the life out
of the opposition. I wanted Mello to get a game, to increase our scoring potential, then when it was obvious his name had a line through it,
Schloithe. Even though we were still winning, we never destroyed teams by huge margins.
Should we have kept Schloithe and rejected Sylvia?
Or has the coach a problem with certain player types, personalities?
Ross is still the best coach we have ever had at Freo, but you do wonder sometimes if he deals in absolutes.

Would agree with the first. As for the latter, I still hold out hope that Crozier can get his application right, and get rid of the jogging laziness in his defensive running. If he can sort that out, I still reckon he has the tools to be a jet. Reckon he's got even more upside than Shero, but needs a boot in the a*se to help deliver on it.

Hopefully the two will become guns in the near future, and we can spend more of our time debating which of the two is more elite.
