I remember when Melksham first started, he seemed to show great early signs of composure and effective ball use. These days he seems a little overwhelmed with football. I hope he can find his way into some good footy cause he's a good character, but his performance this year hasn't been all that impressive.

I still think he can come good. This year has been a bit of a waste but he does have talent and the heart to play. I think he needs to build up his tank. All he needs to do is add another 5-8 uncontested possessions to his game and be more sure by foot and he'll be fine.

2012: Shit
2013: Average followed by alright in the second half of the year
2014: Average to shit

I would honestly look to trade him out if a good value option presented itself.

Well that's just revisionist rubbish.

Because that's not at all the level to which he played. He was excellent in 2013. Top 5 in the B&F in one of the top 6 or so teams of the year.

That was the level to which I and many others who saw him believed he played to. Hell, 90 per cent of people were shocked to see him finish fifth which was largely attributed to him playing 21 games and being consistent - the majority of votes came when we were playing no where near what a top 6 team would play. He had a good last six or so weeks while being average in the first two/thirds of the season.

Going over this board's MVP for last year, Melksham polled in six games - four of which were between R17-23

So, to only poll in the top five players in two games out of 15 would suggest to me that he very much was average followed by good in the final seven weeks.

He averaged 20.2 disposals in his last 5 games in a team that was being heavily beaten and struggling to runout the season...

he also chipped in with a 2-3 goal haul in there as well.

Turns out what I said is true.

What an insignificant stat! Had a good stretch when it didn't matter & the sting was out of the season given where we knew it was all likely going to end up. His year before was nothing short of a disgrace & he's reverted back his old ways this year with his idiotic decision making & general ability to balls things up.

Jordan Russell won Carlton's B&F in 2010...he was delisted 2 years later & didn't do a thing at Collingwood. Your hanging your hat on a Melksham top 5 finish in 2013!! Please!!

If anything, sell that stat to Stk/Melb & hope like hell they give us a 2nd rd draft pick for the spud!

The supplement saga may have taken a greater toll on Jake more than others?????....the one thing Jake has got going for him is experience. After getting so many games into him, I would prefer to see how he goes once the **** storm is over. Also Hirdy back might help him. Midfield depth is important.

I think ppl are remembering his first years incorrectly also.. he was a 'whipping boy' on here from day 1.. and usually with good reason. Was a turnover merchant from day 1.. panics with the ball and finds new ways to stuff things up.

Came good during the second half of last year when the list fell to shit around him but other than that 12 week period.. has been average to below average. One of the luckiest blokes to ever wear the EFC jumper for 100 games.

Put it this way, if Melksham had been recruited last year instead of when he was.. I doubt we would even remember his name.. he would be way way way way down the pecking order and nowhere near a call up to the Senior Team.

Personally I would trade him now while he still might have a little value left.. if we could package him and a 3 round pick for a decent 2nd round pick (early) then it is a no-brainer.

Watson, Goddard, Heppell, Stanton, Myers, Z Merrett, Zaka, Colyer and Hocking are all ahead of him for midfield spots. J Merrett, Gleeson, NOB,Fantasia and Ashby will be on his hammer next year, along with maybe Aylett, E Kav and Edwards. Quite simply, his senior opportunities are going to be very very limited.

Hard but fair...
Wont happen though, he is Hirdy's love child after all.
Funny thing is that i can still see Hird getting the best out of him even now.

It's a sorry old day if Hocking has gone past you.
There's never been a point in Melksham's career when he was better than Hocking, I wouldn't have thought.

Hocking is struggling right now but all up, he's been a very solid player for us.

I'm not going to deny Hocking is struggling or the fact that he's a solid player. The way I look at it is this: Who's in this team that going to help deliver a premiership? Hocking, Howlett and Melksham are not players that are going to do that. As a result my time for them is limited and my desire to see them move on grows poor game by poor game.

I'd argue that in his first couple of years he was solid and tracking steadily, put too much muscle on in a short period of time in 2012, then was solid for the first half of 2013 before being very good in the second half. This year has been terrible, however.

Will be a good tagger in the future however.

has to be. it's his ONLY option.

Whilst I somewhat disagree (didn't tag at all second half of last season when he was in career best form) he's been pretty good at it with relative inexperience. Kept Ward to 15 disposals last year (8 below his season average) and did a decent job on Griffen, even though Griff got 28 disposals, 16 were handballs. Was okay-ish against Johnson this year too.
