I heard a Brisbane Lions player (Lisle) did a 'blackface' impersonation of Lebron James ..

How stupid can you get ?

I just wonder if the same fuss would have been made if Geelong were to have done that

They've pushed the boundary on a few costumes in recent yrs, and it has been shaken off as "boys will be boys"

You're not seriously trying to compare Bartel and Duncan going as Nixon and Duthie are you? Please tell me you're joking...

Or was it Scarlett dressing up as Brereton that got your nose out of joint?

Must have missed the one where the cats dressed up as a rapist and victim.

Duties and Nixon was one, but I also recall a Geelong player dressed as a priest as the church coverups were coming back into the spotlight

Melbourne is investigating whether two of its players at Mad Monday celebrations have dressed up as Rolf Harris and a young girl.

A photo of the pair, posted on defender Dean Terlich's Instagram account features Terlich and teammate Alex Georgiou dressed up in costumes that appear to be the disgraced musician and a girl. Terlich is wearing a fake goatee, high grey wig, short tie, colourful shirt, blazer and rectangular glasses, all of which are trademarks of Harris.

Great start to the offseason, Demons.

Hold on. Geelong players are allowed to dress up as a St Kilda player and a schoolgirl, but as soon as it's Melbourne it's shisen?

Do they really sacrifice any more in terms of social life than any other working person? If you work full time, work weekends, are married, have kids, are paying high rent, saving for or paying off a house, saving for a holiday, etc., I'd say you're probably missing out on just as much "socialising" with your mates as footy players are, but probably aren't getting the fame, job satisfaction/enjoyment and the higher pay packet to balance it out. "Regular" people can't just piss up to their heart's content at the drop of a hat either, certainly not without consequences in another aspect of their life anyway, just like footballers.

Not sure how responsible you were in your 20's but it's a bit rich comparing the average AFL player to the person you describe above.

"Regular" people do piss up to their hearts content at the drop of a hat ... but they usually have jobs that don't require them to be 100% on the next morning.

I think that you may be trying to take a bit of moral high ground in something that isn't as serious a problem as you are making out.

Like this post. To a point yes they are not really sacrificing any more(time commitments, compromises) then your standard worker and in fact in some ways less. Yet in some ways they are also policed far more thoroughly and if the same standard worker did the same thing no one would actually give a continental.

Employment wise they are simply professionals who have reached the top of their field (all be it at a younger age then average). I guess they are free to carry on like di*(heads if they want, all be it within the standards of the law and common decency(you'd hope).

A St Kilda player won't go to jail for having sex with a schoolgirl. This has been established

Facts are Terlich (apparently) dressed up as a pedophile for mad monday. And Georgiou (apparently) dressed up as a child who had been r*ped by an old man. It's pretty gross

If Geelong players had trivialised child pedophilia like Kent and Georgiou, yes there would still have been a fuss. Yes Geelong have pushed the boundaries but not blatantly crossed it.
The closest thing I can think of is Bartel and Duncan making fun of the 'St. Kilda school girl' incident which isn't in the same ball park.

So controversial that I'd never even heard about it (upon further research, it seems the player was Brent Prismall, who left Geelong at the end of 2008. The Parliamentary Inquiry into suicides by the victims of sexual abuse by the Catholic church commenced in 2011-12...so surprise, surprise: you're completely full of shit). If said 'priest' had no pants on, or another player had dressed up as a victim of a crime that this priest had been found guilty of committing, you may just about be in the post code of making a decent point.

But good on you for just completely making shit up, due to some grudge you have with the Geelong Football Club.

So if you were going to dress up as a black person i would think coloring your skin would be a good way to go about it. Again people who want to complain about a dress up, there is no racial intent to offend and there is no issue if someone did dress up as lebron.

someone from our club dressed up as rolf harris, was pretty funny. Dont see the issue, its all tongue in cheek and for a bit of a laugh. anybody who is 'offended' by this mustnt have much going on in their lives.

I'm normally the last person to join the "offended on behalf of others", brigade. In fact, it drives me mental.

But if you can't see anything wrong with a bloke dressed up as a recently convicted paedophile, accompanied by another bloke dressed as a young girl, you need help.

Tell a victim of paedophilia it's all just a laugh and "tongue in cheek".

It's a distasteful joke. Which means some people who have been victim of child abuse will find uncomfortable and I'm sure the guys wouldn't mean to offend them.

But in a confines of a group of young men letting their hair down at the end of the season it can be seen as humorous. Comedians are role models much more than Dean Terlich and they don't cop too much when they cross the lines on jokes like this.

They did ... in 2011. Bartel ands some other player dressed as Ricky Nixon and Kim Duthie.

i saw someone dressed up as a race care driver, tell someone whose dad died in a car race that its funny. its a bloody dress up mate, get over it. these days you cant use a toothpick without offending someone. its topical and in my opinion funny/clever

They didnt walk into a hospital of rape victims dressed as them and walk around scaring people

They turned up to a footy club celebration, anyone bringing in others misfortune is just wanting to be offended by something

If you work full time, work weekends, are married, have kids, are paying high rent, saving or payinn off a house then you have made all of those decisions yourself and you should then deal with the consequences as such -

My life is not defined by where I work or how often I work. I work as little as possible to get by and have no such ambition to put my life in debt and live excessively consumerist lifestyles..

Noone forces you to work so damn hard, that's you're own choice. If AFL players want to act like dickheads once their season's over then so be it - No different to anyone else acting like dickheads when they want to, except maybe that we won't find threads dedicated to it on bigfooty...

Here's what you have to justify: in what context is child abuse funny? Are we missing something? That's what their outfits represent, right? Child pedophilia. Please explain
