Copied this question and answer from knightmares phantom draft.

Here is a question Knightmare. Who is the best key position defender in the draft who is ready to go round 1 in 2015 that the Swans could realistically get with our 3rd round draft pick? Very random question there but with the trade restrictions placed on us we desperately need a key position defender who could in theory play well in 2015.
If the Swans want an immediate key defender other than James Gwilt who Sydney could have had as an unrestricted free agent Michael Hartley and Matthew Sully are the two best key defenders not on AFL lists. Of those Hartley is the pick of the two and actually a previous NSW boy and previous Collingwood rookie via the previous scholarship program. The lad was let go a year early for me having struggled early with injuries. He isn't a rebounder but as a shutdown key defender he's terrific and another Prestigiacomo. Either could be had as rookies and I'd say don't waste your time using a national draft selection to get either.

While he is also not year one ready Logan Austin from the GWS academy as an overager is terrific and has some real scope long term, late draft to be something. If you watch any NEAFL you may have seen him play some strong matches for GWS throughout the season and contribute strongly.

Complete coincidence there is a NSW connection with these guys but outside of those first two rounds and looking for immediate guys these are my picks.

I reckon this may overtake the Tippett thread, somehow, and that would be amazing
especialy considering thatt there hasnt been a trade.

Not sure if serious
Not for the Crows per say, but just as footballers. I don't see what others see in Frawley. To me Schoenmakers is as good or poor as Frawley, but what would I know, I have not seen either play enough to give an objective opinion.

As somebody who has seen quite a bit of both, I'll put it this way. Frawley has stood out whilst playing for basically the shittest football team in the AFL, in a defence that has been constantly under seige, and proven himself as All-Australian worthy during this time. Schoenmakers has been an average defender whilst playing for the best team in the AFL. I'm not against getting Schoenmakers on the cheap to bolster our incredibly thin KPD stocks, but he and Frawley are not in the same class of defenders.

If we've offered Shoenmakers for 31 then our recruiters should be shot. He is no better than Hartigan who was a rookie.

Crouch#44 you started this trade period stating you had intel we were going to be big players, time to come clean you were full of shit?

I would back Hartigan over Shoenmakers - all day, every day.

Problem is that it's not port.

If our goal is to be the best, and not just mildly entertaining family amusement from time to time then we need to out run the others. Not just keep up, go faster if we want to overtake because we were 10th this year.

What's North done
What's Geelong done
What's hawthorn done
What's port done

What do we look like doing?

You can listen to ostriches like baccs but really, what is our plan to overhaul these guys?
No Point recuting free agents if there is no one we rate thow would much rather wait till next year when the likes of Jack Steven are avaliable & as for trades if we want to bring in quality we need to trade quality, our quality players are worth hanging onto as most of them are young so its realisticly only guys like Lyons that could be traded and we cant magicly trade him for a top 10 pick

I think the stradegy we are taking ATM is great go for players that fill a need that dont cost much & if they can improve or at the very least improve our list its a win IMO. It needs to be looked at like this basicly we get rid of Mckernan, Graham, Petrenko, Johnston & Proplyzia & replace them with Giles, Cheany, Mcdonough, Schoenmakers etc they are all upgrades on what we had which means our list has improved (each may only be a slight upgraded on what we had but as a collective could be a big upgrade)

Frawley is a very good player in a poor side, Shoey is a poor player in a very good side

Defenders that started as rookies include Rutten, Bock, Bassett, Mal Michael, Firitto, Josh Gibson, Heath Grundy, Michael Jamison, Tom Lonergan, Nathan Grima, Luke Delaney
Some more recents rookies that look promising. Sam and Jack Frost, Justin Clarke, Kyle Hartigan, Joel Tippett.
I think we should continue with the rookie listing key defenders and ruck man. Use the early picks for superstars and use the late picks and rookie pick for the solid contributors.

What is a Crow-mo?

Personally I don't think you could be more wrong.

Not only is it not just about free agents, it's about getting better. And you can't wait for free agents as many dont make it

Anyone who thinks there are no chances to improve in any given year is certifiably insane :)

I remember someone reporting on here during Schoenmakers' draft that they were at a BBQ with Rendell and asked about Schoenmakers; Rendell apparently laughed and said he was a massive spud and wouldn't recruit.
Rendell also said Samck was going t9 be his greatest recruit, didn't he?

Jay Clarke on SEN saying Melbourne back in talks with Adelaide about Trading for Dangerfield apparently going to offer picks 2,3 & 12 (from the Trengove trade which is a done deal apparently)

Also said Melbourne looking to move Watts & Toumpus
