I was under the impression that their were no stand outs but that draft ran extremely deep with quality this year?

Not the same elite talent at the top end (top 10). Like I said in a previous post there were many more players vying for top 3, this year theres not as many putting their hand up.

Membrey to take his forward post. Lee can play a bit of ruck to support Hickey & Longer.
"Hickey and Longer" or "Hickey or Longer". Surely we don't want to have a ruckman spending most of the game warming the bench.
Unless Bruce is slotted to be a forward ruck. ( He's tall enough ).

Yeah surely that draft pick is good value ( compare to Hampson last year ) but If the draft pick doesn't turn out we've lost out.

Def 'Hickey or Longer' , in the one team sense. I said '&' because I don't know which will be getting a game, which will largely depend on form, injuries etc.

The top 4 of the draft is elite - Petracca, Brayshaw, McCartin and Wright.

Getting 4 and 7 means we get a free hit at the likes of Lever, Laverde or Ahern. All of who have been rated in the top 3 at different points. Could also slightly reach for Weller as that uber elite outside option.

Petracca is a gun but 4 and 7 is a better option for our list IMO.

Aside from Petracca & Brayshaw there are big question marks on the top end.
Lever coming off an ACL
Wright a ruck or forward
McCartin unfit & how will he manage diabetes
Laverde, Ahern, Weller, Pickett etc all low-production midfielders

Completely agree with this - 4 & 7 this year is perfect for us.

rebuild isnt done in one year... plenty of time to find a rhys replacement... his value wont be there for much longer though, similar to mcevoy, he's at that age of make or break. we are trading whilst his value is still high

Not a fan of doing that publicly it gains nothing TBH.
I don't want our young players or players deciding whether to come here thinking they could trade me next.
If Rhys doesn't get traded, he and the others know that the club shopped him around.
Its all god to build a list but there has to be some discretion or it shows lack of loyality from the club in a way.

I'm guessing if they are entertaining a trade for Rhys there must be a KPF or a like for like coming in.
McCartin or Plan B will need to be activated..

 Yes you will in 2 years time the sub will be gone there will be 4 on the bench
The game is changing in the future.

Happy enough with trading Rhys thought it was a strong chance of happening

Pick 21 will give them the 3 picks they covet.

There are some players who will be very options. Hammelman. Bampton Goddard Mckenzie Cockatoo
Langdon to name few.

Last year Pick 4 & 7 would have got you Marcus Bontempelli and James Aish....
2012: Jimmy Toumpas & Ollie Wines

Give me 2 players like that over 1 player every day of week.
I'm not that impressed by Toumpas.

I think Big Mart is an online entity directed toward being the Devils Advocate for almost any discussion that arises.
I actually commend him/her for that, and think that a lot of the time we don't weigh up different perspectives on a topic, despite them being always negative.

Is that for real?
Even if it is I think teams that can have just one dedicated ruck will do better by being able to bench four of the hardest runners.

this idea of pointing to previous pick examples to demonstrate what we can get is a bit flawed IMO all that matters is what is available in the draft coming up and how you rate those players

what happened previously means absolutely nothing be it pick 1, pick 5 or pick 105

You should see when two of those entities (plugger66 & BigMart) collide. Its amazing.

I didn't think there was any question about Wright for a long time now.

Wont be a problem at all. He has been Type 1 Diabetic since a young boy. Its totally under control for him.
Unlike Jamie Cripps who was only diagnosed as he was drafted and had to get the diet/insulin regime down pat while adjusting to the rigours of AFL life as well.

I didn't think there was any question about Wright for a long time now.

Widely reported that some clubs are unsure if he will be a forward or ruck at AFL level. Some clubs believe he will primarily be a ruck & clubs don't invest heavily with high draft picks like they use to on ruckman.

I reckon this trade is the most likely though

The Mccartin thing worries me a bit
Lever done an ACL?? Too risky
