I haven't been this excited about our young talent since the early 2000's, i really think we're heading in the right direction and picking up the necessary players to climb our way back up the ladder in the next 2/3 years. Whoever doesn't see that i feel a tad sorry for, because it really excites me.

FFS, can we just have a seperate "Chris Pelchen: hero or villain" thread for this bullshit?!
Change of subject.
Been doing some light research into our draft prospects.
I must say I finally understand your raving Barrels.
Im on the Reece bandwagon!
I get a feeling this kid is gonna be a powerful force in years to come.
Biggest knock seems to be he is 2yrs behind development.
Saints can wait a couple of years, hope we get him.

If I had any say in it, I would be talking to Sydney to get Membery before the psd. You never know, there may be some essendon players come available soon.

1/GWS, Port, WB and GC. If that is not understood... Study the age profile and talent of those lists....

Those are horrible examples to compare our list too. The Dogs are the closest comparison yet they are 2 years ahead of us in their rebuild. The others are so different they may as well be playing a different sport.

Savage pretty stiff. Had a good year once he got back in team.

Gilbert on IC?

I'm not sure where Roberton sits with injury, but if he can recapture and build on his 2013 form, he's best 22 IMO.

The whole Chris Pelchen thing is about structure.
While I think Thomas was good at the "running the whole footy club thing " , its a dumb way to do it.
Having the coach running the whole show takes too much of his focus away from coaching.
I'm pretty sure that Lyon would have preferred to have others looking after all the other bullshit.
Its a more professional way to run the club pure and simple.
Not to mention it reduces the risk of the kind of systematic cheating we've seen at some other clubs.

well lyon apparently spoke to someone at sydney about it (surprise surprise), they gave him a presentation on the right structure. he then gave that presentation to our board and then we went out to hire a list manager. hence pelchen arrived at the club

This is essentially tampering with the system but we've already done it with Dal and Del so it could be something we are up for (in a different way)...so...

Is there any way we could let Jack walk to a club on a big contract allowing us to get pick 2 next year, only for us to then trade one of or both of pick 1 & 2 to the same club for a massive trade back to us.

Say for example we were keen on three gun GWS kids, when you include Jack, pick 1 & 2 in the equation it suddenly looks gettable. Or instead of trading just Jack, we keep 1 and trade Jack and pick 2 compo for Cameron - drafting Parish.

Any interest in this type of trade? I really cant see how it actually cant work (apart from the whole losing our best player bit). Finishing near the bottom, we have to make FA work for us and if the big names don't pick us this a way to ensure a little win by using the system.

Yeah!
They should have sacked pelchen and let ross run the whole show!
Things would be much better right now if we just let one person have supreme dictatorship over the club.

I mean what could possibly go wrong?
James hird at essendon.

I really believe we will get pick 1 next year as well cant see us winning more then 2 - 4 games, so we will have pick 1 & 19 to start with. I hope Jack signs a long term deal ( 4 years) and becomes a 1 club player I still remember how good his 2013 was.

I agree he has the potential to become elite.
But if it became a Jack vs Cameron argument?

PSD Pick 1 St Kilda: J.Cameron

Steven will re-sign i'm willing to bet like i was willing to that he wouldn't be traded. :D

No one wanted to take up the bet with me. :(

As much I have loved jack, I would be waiting until half way through the year to decide tbh

Yes yes and yes

Well that's not fair LOL

Yes I would love Cameron but not if it is stupid money that will wreck our plans and playing list 3 -4 years down track when Dunstan, Billings etc are due for a new contract. The one thing I do like about our (Pelican ) rebuilding plan is for once we have plan and seem to be sticking to it

call me a sadist, but I could watch the 1st quarter of the PA vs Richmond final over and over

The 5th or 6th goal for Port where Hamish Hartlett won the hard ball with 4 other port players streaming past was an amazing effort, sacrificed his body, won it, gave it off, BANG GOAL! What a team goal that was!

Difference between negativity and honesty.

I don't kid myself.

Was may get back on track... Not through genius, but a draft system and trading out players... If done wisely, we'd never have got to this place really...

When I see clear results in the right direction... I don't proclaim any success just yet though

Snake
We were the beneficiaries of being a basket case when two of the best #1 picks ever fell either side of a super draft.... In the 2000-2003 period

We also used the trade Black, Gehrig, Penny, Gram, Hamill
And the pre season draft
Voss and Powell
And got Milne as a rookie.

I support my club as much as anyone... But I don't just believe everything someone tells me, without having my own opinion on it either?

Except endless bleating does nothing to help. Who ever is in power has to have unfettered scope to put forward a plan and implement it or it becomes just a series of half measures with no conclusion.

I know a guy who's dad was in admin at the Swans after a long term stint at a melbourne club, he said the club ran efficiently in comparison because the melbourne based club was constantly having excessive input from every interested party and old player who would demand change because something hadn't had an instant effect.

Be patient and let them see out the plan, then in hindsight we can all find that sliding door moment that cost us or pretend we always knew we were on the right path.

At TAC level Pettacca was referred to as 'Quadzilla'...

I started calling him the Truck because Kevin Sheehan always calls him Petrucca. Well that and he is of a similar build.

Lol douche on SS blaming us not trading pick 1 on Alan Richardson because he knows the Petracca family.

Great post.

You see this sort of behavior in workplaces too. There is nothing worse than identifying a problem, making a long-term plan to tackle it and getting people giving advice from the sidelines early on when the plan has just started to be implemented and they can't see results. Often the people giving the advice christen themselves "realists". I prefer to call them what they really are: stupid and short-sighted. These sort of people cause so much damage in organisations. It's the same with the Saints and our re-build. We simply can't start judging it until 2017-onwards as it is a long-term plan.
