What? Bailey has been our best performed ODI batsman over the past 2 years.
After a good knock in Perth before the tests, he hasn't got over 35 in his last 6-7 innings.
You know what I reckon.
Pick our best test side for ODI's . The batting strike rate during the tests was fantastic, they're better cricketers

Maxwell does play that reverse sweep well, the sooner he learns that this is the point of his innings to play it and not in his first 20 balls, the better.

Clarke better not play, he's a near certainty to break down.
I agree but you know it's going to happen. And we don't have any spare batsmen in the WC squad so we'd have to prove he's injured to get a replacement.
Should get Shaun Marsh back in.
I'm usually the first person to say no to this but his batting has been really great lately. I got to see first hand the form he's in against the Stars at the MCG. Still, I'd be reluctant to put him in because his fielding is so so poor.

Have a look at history. Almost everyone who opens in ODIs does better than they have elsewhere.
The quicker you come to terms with the fact the Finch is going nowhere any time soon the better off you'll be:)

4 an over in test cricket is still short of the 6 an over you need for ODIs, and the batsmen most responsible for that (Warner and Smith) are in the WC squad. You wouldn't pick Rogers in ODIs, Burns lacks international experience, and S.Marsh is less consistent at the level than other ODI cricketers we've had. As for the bowlers, who knows if Harris will still be effective in ODIs (plus he's too important to risk on it), and Faulkner is our best ODI all-rounder.

CA will make the call, if Clarke remains stubborn, time to take the captaincy away, it's a team game.

I believe our best test team doesn't include Burns. I do believe our best test team (including Rogers) would win the World Cup comfortably. Rogers lifted his scoring rate, became a lot more positive during the Indian series and scored well.
I believe that the best ODI batsmen are getting their runs through correct cricket shots.
Id have Lyon in for sure, and would also have Harris in. He'd (Harris) wouldn't play against minnows.
Remember the 2nd innings in the Melbourne test.
We made 260 of 44 overs.
4 bowlers, the other 10 between Smith, m marsh and Watto.

Rogers isn't in our best ODI batsmen. And I'm fine with Harris being out. I doubt his body has it in him to play the entire WC anyways. And why would anyone ever leave Faulkner out of our ODI squad? Lately he'd get in as either a bowler or a batsmen. Don't underrate a great all-rounder!

Opposition is everything though, you'll struggle to find a more impotent bowling attack than India's.

Rogers is a handy test batsman, but he's not there at one day level, the days of both squads being the same are 20 years ago, we diodn't even do that in the days of Gilchrist, Ponting, Warne, McGrath, Hayden, etc. Picking the same side these days would be lunacy.

LOL, Woakes. :$

Felt bad for Maxwell, most mature innings he's played at international level and he just tried a bit too much at the end, deserved a century.
Symonds used to be the same, and then in one winter it all came together and he learnt what those harsh lessons would allow him to do once he got them out of his game.

In a World Cup too. Can't help but wonder how different 2003 would've been if not for him, and when they picked the squad, most of the country didn't want him there.

The innings Hayden got him through at the "G" made him.
Just dont know if we have a person in the team that could do the job Hayden did.

One thing's for sure. Picking the best line up for the WC is not going to be easy.
Most winners of the WC,have a great swingman in the team .
Im sure they are hoping Maxwell fills the bill and 4 bowlers 5 bats do the normal.

Assuming S.Marsh comes in for Clarke, I'd be inclined to say S.Marsh for Bailey might be the only move made from today's team, but it's a big call to make when he's technically captain in Clarke's absence.

If Clarke plays, Bailey will go out.

Clarke could if Maxwell gets another go whilst he's still there, otherwise Smith seems the only one who could. Rogers will be long gone before Maxwell gets another look, but he probably could've.

That's the thing. You could make a case for about 14 of those as to why they should fit into the 11 and equally make a case for about 5-6 guys as to why they shouldn't be. It's a good problem to have in a way.

S.Marsh for Bailey is what I'd like. Given the history of multiple panels of selectors I get this sick feeling it will end up being Watson to come in.
