So does this mean if it's an eagles/hawks granny, the hawks will wear power ranger jumpers?

West Coast beat Sydney in the 2005 Qualifying Final & Adelaide in the PF. Sydney beat West Coast in the 2006 Qualifying Final, & Freo in the PF.

Therefore, West Coast would've been the home team in 2005 & Sydney in 2006, right? The Eagles finished higher up the ladder in both years, mind.

Wow. People saying that the 2015 version of the tri-panel will prevent the clash need to stop. You're embarrassing yourselves. A single two-inch wide strip of navy on one side does not suddenly make the whole jumper navy blue. In fact, what it does do, is create a gold-navy-gold vertical striped pattern, which if anything will create more of a clash with Hawthorn's gold-brown-gold vertical stripes.

I'm thrilled that the AFL have made this decision. Its about time some clubs are made to wear their clash strips more often, and in particular in big games like finals. Hawthorn have a perfectly adequate jumper that will avoid the clash - and it is a huge clash - they just don't want to wear it because they know its ugly. Hopefully this can be a wake-up call to the rest of the league - design a clash jumper that you would be proud to wear in a final or Grand Final.

While I'm a big believer in the returnthewings campaign, the fact remains that for now, the tri-panel is still the Eagles' home jumper and they have full rights to wear it in their home final. Hawthorn have no right to ask them to wear their away jumper in order to avoid having to wear their own eyesore. Eagles in full home, and Hawks in full clash was the only acceptable outcome for me. I do believe in changing the shorts of the home team to allow both teams to wear their preferred jumpers if the situation suits, but this is clearly not case for which that is appropriate.

Well done AFL. Well done West Coast for sticking to your guns. And bad luck Hawthorn for designing a monstrosity of a clash jumper. You should have had more foresight.

Re: Home team in the Grand Final, I was always under the impression that it was the winner of the "1st Preliminary Final" that was deemed the home team. This would make West Coast the away team for both 2005 and 2006, as they competed in the "2nd Preliminary Final" in both years.

I'm pretty sure the "home" team on grand final day is the team who finished higher on the ladder at the end of the season.
