Traded James Aish [traded to Collingwood for #26 and St Kilda's 2016 second round pick]

Plenty of whispers that we are pretty into him and may be 2nd in the race behind Collingwood.

Think you'll get Freeman from us and we will land Aish. Hawks lurking but would be hard to crack into that team. Ask pick #2 Jono O'Rourke.

Starting 22 on a wing for Pies from day 1.

Crows also an option but he's on record as saying he wants to play in Melbourne and not go back to Adelaide. May change his mind though if they throw him some of Dangers money.

Go home factor crows will be cashed up if danger goes
As I've said previously in this thread, my mail a few months ago was that he wants to live in Melbourne much more than any of the other capital cities and the fact that he has been closely linked to only Melb teams of late would probably be a sign that that mail was correct.
I was not aware you guys offered him 400k for 3 years, he would be mad to leave that money on the table
Not keen on living in Brisbane though and I have no doubt that other clubs would be offering him an equivalent deal, if not better.
Yeah, it's a bit bizarre really. He's done all those things, yet hasn't given even a hint that he wants to sign a contract either. It's just a very odd scenario for a club and player to be in.
I think it's just that he isn't any club's no.1 trade target and as such he has to wait and see how those clubs go with their no.1 targets (eg. Collingwood and Richmond with Treloar, us and Carlton with Carlisle), which they will need to sort out before they know how hard to go for Aish.

Once that's all sorted, I expect him to tel Brisbane he's out, unless he gets a bit affronted that he isn't anyone's no.1 target and says "stuff them, I'm staying", in spite of not liking living in Brisbane!

Very fair chance of that.

I'm a bit meh on Aish after his very ordinary year this year and I also thought he was very underwhelming in his draft year when I saw him playing champs.
What are your thoughts on Freeman and his draft year?
I would be shocked if another club offered over 400k for Aish, not many 3rd year players make that money

He actually hasn't been on record saying anything. No one knows. Personally I'm thinking Collingwood could be the GWS of the buddy deal. I.e. leverage to get more money to either stay in Brisbane or go home to Adelaide. It is a classic Pickering tactic.

What are your thoughts on Freeman and his draft year?
I was told to keep an eye on him in the champs by someone who watches the juniors very closely who was very high on him at that stage (from what he'd done at school footy or whatever), but from memory Nathan didn't do much in those televised games and so I didn't have much to go on and as the year went on my mate went right off him and by draft time wasn't keen on him at all, even with our late-teens picks.

He sounded like the type who was drafted more on his incredible athletic attributes (elite speed and terrific endurance, which very few have in combination) rather than on his football ability or nous, hence him not being someone who would really rack up the possessions, like you'd want someone getting drafted in the top 10 to do.

So the fact he still hasn't proven that he isn't just "an athlete playing footy" will probably count against Collingwood in a trade, if he chooses to leave.

Ok, I'm not really worried I doubt he will leave especially if Aish stays in brisbane or goes to Hawks.

From having spoken to someone who knows Pickers well.

"Someone." How convenient. I spoke to someone who knows Greg Swann well and he says James loves being around the Brisbane boys and at the club. Is my "source" as good as yours?

That's a pretty childish response. If he loves it so much and he has such a big contract in front of him I imagine he'd have re-signed long ago. I also doubt Swann would think any differently, doesn't mean he's right though, or that he likes living in Brisbane as a city.

Nothing that has happened since I was told all that has led me to believe that mail wasn't on the money, especially since the only clubs he's being strongly linked to are Melbourne based. If Melbourne isn't the city he wants to live in then I'd imagine it would only be Adelaide clubs that he's getting linked to, but that isn't the case.

I don't get the hate for Brisbane as a place to live. I do get the hate for shit facilities and losing though.
My understanding is that he wants to live in the bigger city with the bigger football culture and as such I'm not surprised that he's being most strongly linked to the biggest club in the biggest football city. I wouldn't go taking it personally if it's true, it's just one man's personal preference.

There's plenty of reasons why he might not have re-signed at this stage. Being out of contract, he and his manager are clearly testing the market to see what he is worth, before he accepts Brisbane's reported contract offer of $400,000 over three years. If another club offers him more, then he may well be advised to accept that offer. If Brisbane up their offer to match or exceed what a Melbourne based and / or Adelaide based club might offer, then he may well accept that.

I also doubt Swann would think any differently, doesn't mean he's right though, or that he likes living in Brisbane as a city.

My point was that your source or "mail" is no better than mine. Why are you right?

I personally doubt whether 'liking" Brisbane as a place to live, figures that strongly at all in Aish's deliberations about his next 2-3 year AFL contract. That's my opinion only, based as it is on my "mail" that he likes the club and his team-mates.

And even if it did, very few of us would be any the wiser. Even your source. It's speculation at best and not necessarily the truth.

"Mail"? I haven't seen anything about whether Aish himself is interested in a particular Melbourne club, beyond media speculation.

There may well be a number of Melbourne based clubs interested in a No. 7 DP taken in 2013, who's played 32 senior games in two years, finished fourth in last years rising star award and who is currently out of contract, but that's a different thing.

Let's see if Adelaide now makes Aish an offer that matches or exceeds $1.2 million over three years, now that it appears Dangerfield has supposedly requested a trade to Victoria.

I didn't realise he had a cracking first year?

Didn't realise that was mentioned in the post I quoted or highlighted by me

People need to cut him a little bit of slack on the playing well side of things. Its probably why he isnt getting many contracts better than our reported 400k a year for 3 years deal, but he had a rocky year with injuries/2nd year blues.

Beng can correct me if I'm wrong but he was implying the 400k deal isn't that far off the mark and that he should be cut some slack on his 2nd year. That implies pretty directly the contract offer from us is more about his pedigree and 1st year. You compared that to scharenberg and I highlighted a major difference - Aish has played a consistent good season at AFL level - Scharenberg hasn't. I think it's a high contract offer for Aish and ludicrously high for Scharenberg given he's barely played at the senior level.

That explains why he mentioned Freeman in his reply to my post?
Anyway thanks for clarifying it for me:thumbsu:

Aish was a virtual lock for the Crows at the beginning of 2015 (from a close family member). Things may well have changed, perhaps Crows got cold and baulked at his price or he decided he wanted to live in Melbourne. Or perhaps he wants to stay? But it seems very strange that he hasn't nominated his club yet if it is one of the Vic clubs talked about...

I reckon he's heading for Hawthorn. Hawthorn are still playing finals hence why he hasn't nominated them or requested a trade yet. Plus we a into to Matthew Suckling and likely to trade for Suckling.

I reckon we will end up with Suckling + pick 19.

Show me anywhere where Aish has said on the record he wants to play in Melbourne and not go back to Adelaide?
